Lurking over here. Kate is almost 8 months, sounds a lot like Miss Abi so I am just reading along here to know what is in store for me!

I am with you, Nicole, I hate naps. I was so happy with Riley dropped his last nap, as it is so much better being able to go out and about every day, with worrying about naps/feed times etc. I think that this time next year, when we are down to one nap, will be sooo much better too.

I would have lots more babies, if it were not for the nap thing. I could not do this again lol!

isn't it SO frustrating? ERika will go for 2-4days with great naps and then it's a week or 2 of crap...and the cycle repeats.
so after 4hrs A time she slept 1hr 15min.
i'm going to keep her up for 3.5hrs insteadof 3 for the afternoon and see what happens??

Okay..so I did the 3.5hrs...and thought it still took about 15min for her to go to sleep...I would go in and pick her up and she actually put her head on my shoulder...so I KNOW She was tired..and I only did that twice and she went to sleep.... and then she slept TWO HOURS!!!
normally when I go in and pick her up, she's arms flailing, legs kicking, looking around etc...so I wonder if she needs more awake time????
so, all in all the day went like this:
6:20am wake
10:20-11:35 nap (1hr 15min)
3pm put down
3:15-5:30 sleep!!!!!!!!
and she still went back to sleep by 8:30.....
hmmm
interesting.
the other thing I noticed when Steve put her down at 8pm and I thought NO way is she going to go to bed after sleep for 2hrs til 5:30pm...
she didn't do her normal screaming and shouting but just talked to herself for 30min.

I'm not sure what to make of it??? why would she need 3.5-4hrs awake time during the day and less before bedtime??

Nicole,
We have the same cycle, 1-2 good days of naps and then they fall apart.
How did the night go with that day of naps. I'm curious to see what others have to say about those A times.
Lyle isn't feeling well right now, so naps have been ok, but the A times are everywhere. I'm just trying to follow his cues and that is actually working, it rarely does. Last night was rough though and I'm not sure if it was illness, or OT. His second nap wasn't so great.
Today I had to put him down after 2 hours A time :( He went right to sleep, we are coming up on an hour now, so we'll see how it goes, actually he's stirring right now. But we had to go to the Dr. So I wanted to make sure he was rested. But it might be a long afternoon and another OT bedtime.

My dd is on one nap and does 5 hr of A time in the am, but only 3.5 after nap/before bedtime - which I find odd too, but it works, so I'm running with that!

I also noticed when she was going through the switch (started around 11 mos, mostly done by 14 mos), we'd have both 1 nap days and 2 nap days.  In the early stages, I found for every 1 nap day, she needed 2 -3 2 nap days to not get chronically OT, then gradually, it was only 2 days to recover, then we alternated every other day, etc. until it was more 1 nap days than 2 nap days and finally, no 2 nap days at all.  If I pushed the 1 nap days, the chronic OT set in and I was doomed.

We are back to having our strange days.

Yesterday DD had 2 naps.  One short one and one longer one - not great naps, but were ok.  Put her to bed for the night and she screamed blue murder.  She has been doing loads developmentally i.e. sitting from a laying down position, starting to crawl and pulling up to stand - all in 2 days  :o  Took nearly 30 mins to get her to settle for the night.  Night was not great, she was constantly waking up and sitting up  ::)

Today she only had 1 nap  :o and it was only 1 hour 20 mns  :o :o, put her to bed earlier than normal, and took her nearly 45 mins to fall asleep.  She was tired, but as soon as I walked out the room she started screaming.

Could the problems with her settling at night be seperation anxiety?  I eventually sat with her until she calmed down in my arms, she started dozing, I popped her in the cot and did pat / shhh and she went to sleep.

I am stumped as to what is going on with her.  She has been doing so well the past few days with naps, and now they are back to going wonky  :-\

hugs ladies...
paula, I have no idea...it seems with us too we get a few good days then a week of crap...I never know what causes it???

so she slept fine last night, she doesn't normally have nw's anyway, but she was up again at 6:15am!! But she's totally happy so what can I do?
I kept her up for 3.5hrs to try and duplicate yesterday....
she slept from 9:45am to 11am
then I put her down again at 2:20 and she was asleep by 2:35 SO that was 3.5hrs but I could tell she was OT...
she woke at the 30min mark and I panicked but luckily I went in right away flipped her on her tummy and patted her back til she was asleep again...so we'll see how long she sleeps now. by the  way, that NEVER WORKS>.she never goes back to sleep but I was praying So hard! lol...
(God have mercy on me, PLEASE let her go back to sleep!!!) haha.

So...i'm thinking since she woke at 30min she was obviously OT...so maybe I should try this:
A.M A time: 3.5hrs
p.M A time: 3-3.25hrs
A time before bed: 2.75-3?

I'm gonna try taht tonight and tomorrow and see what happens.

Paula - did she just refuse the first nap again, or did you just wait until she seemed ready. Maybe she's going to do like Michelle's LO, a couple days of normal naps, and then one nap days here and there :)  Wow, crazy, I'm so glad she was happy for you though. Hopefully the night goes well too :)

Sherry, I am not 100% sure.  Nursery are very good at following her cues, and they say that she is just happy playing.  Not sure if they actually put her down at 10:00 when she was due to go down or not.  Will ask them tomorrow.
