Hello there

Can anyone tell me some good, imaginative finger foods that are filling? My LO is 9 months and refusing to eat anything she's spoon fed, but today tried putting an array of veggies and some cheese and so on in front of her and the only thing she didn't like was sweet potato.
She did eat quite a bit, but wondered is there anything else I can give her aside from cheese and veggies - she still seemed starving afterwards
She had cheese, cracker, butternut squash, brocolli a tiny bit of potato and then some banana and strawberries for afters, and a yoghurt, but seemed really really hungry again just an hour and a half afterwards.

Also, are there any recipe ideas?

Hi all I am joining this thread to get some ideas for BLW for my 6mo. He has just started having some baby rice fed to him on a spoon for breakfast but when I start adding more foods to his diet soon I would like to try BLW as he is always reaching out for our food and everything goes in his mouth.

Can anyone tell me some good, imaginative finger foods that are filling?

Do you eat meat and fish Huby? If so small pieces of meat such as chicken and lamb are good. Fish that holds it's shape such as red snapper and talapia are also good finger foods. What about sandwiches/bread/toast? If you melt the cheese slightly in between some bread it holds together better. And cooked pasta shapes perhaps in a dryish tomato or cheese sauce. You can even hide the veggies in the sauce by blitzing them and adding them in. What about rice? And pancakes - again with hidden veggies.

BTW The Goblin you can get spaghetti squash at Waitrose.

I make turkey and beef meatball patties using egg yolk and oatmeal as the binders and add some spices and cook them up.  DS can hold them and they crumble nicely and he really likes them.

As for recipes DD eats what we eat and has done since she was about one. Before that if she wanted more, she got more! She was a little ball of lard at 9 months old!!!

Pasta! Our LO loves it and it really fills him up if he is really hungry. I usually cook him the short ones (spiraled or tubes/penne) and add veggies. Rice works too if you cook it nice and sticky but is a bit messy. Otherwise if I have little time or we are on the go I make him a toast and put a spread on it or just unsalted butter.

I tried this and ended up moving a teeny table into the kitchen as it was totally hopeless really. My kitchen has a whole lino floor  .

I've heard of people using shower curtains as they are more robust.

My friend made me a cushion for the Antilop out of plastic fabric (think it's used for tablecloths normally). I got extra for a splash mat and it's about 1 m x 1.5 m. Don't think you do metres over there so I'm trying to think of a conversion. Maybe about 1.25 yards x nearly 2 yards. It's pretty big but the times when I've just had it in half for some reason (or when OH does it like this, such as this morning!), food has typically fallen outside of the mat. I put the highchair at the back of the mat so there is lots of mat in front and to the sides. Since using a Tommee Tippee pelican bib (think that's what they're called), much less goes on the floor and L has started taking food out of the bib. I've got the softer one that rolls up.

Does anyone here know if it's okay to give orange. I read on another forum that you shouldn't give citrus until 1 years old but I've been giving some segments of orange or satsuma. L loves it. It was useful when she was a bit constipated.

great ideas...shes sooooooo fussy and only wants to feed herself.
So, stupid questions, but how do I make the meat balls - she seems to spit things out a lot. Is that normal. I worry she's not eating enough.
She'll eat broccolli, sometimes potato if its mashed up for her, sometimes cheese she won't touch pasta for some reason, spits rice out, but loves bread. So will try and some veggies on there too...thing is i feel she should be eating much more at 9 months? She just picks at it, east a few things then throws the rest on the floor. On the days when she was on purrees, she ate loads, but not anymore. She is soooo selective about food, and often just spits things out before trying them!

they have a safe placemat at babies r us. i have one but forget the brand... maybe summer? idk but its pvc bpa and phthalate free!

sooooo we finally started DD on solids at 8.5 m/o and shes doing pretty well!

so its funny but DD is a wicked girly girl and she refuses to eat with her hands lol she has to use a utensil which she does very well with surprisingly. she just ate lil turkey burger and some sweet potatoes. shes doin much better with solids. at first she was like oh no this isnt breastmilk lol i think she needed to realize she will still get her milk whenever she needs it lol

I gave orange from around 9 months on and it was ok. If I give too much citrus fruits LO gets a diaper rash though. My doctor advised us to do oranges before tomato. I think everybody has a different opinion of what to give when and as long as your LO is doing well don't worry about it.

LOL, Hayden is soooo messy all the time. He is slowly learning to use the spoon but still can't put it back into the bowl. He loves picking things with his hands, smashing it on the chair, throwing it all over the place, etc. No comparison to your little girl!
