Yes I'm trying the OTC stuff, it is completely the last resort though I just want to make that clear!  I'm going to give it for a 3/4 nights and just see if the habit can be at least a little bit broken, although it does wear off after 4-6hrs!

He only napped 30mins today - wtf???  I dont know what to do about the whole nap issue now either.  If I bring it forward he usually short naps and then long till bed pushing it back hasn't worked either....  could really wonky naps just be his canines??

I think that most people in your shoes would at least be giving it a try!!  I know I would be, after all this time, and after everything you've tried.  So don't beat yourself up about it, especially since you GP mentioned it to you anyway.  Could you give it as a 'dream medicine' a couple of hours after he goes to sleep?  Just so that it kicks in a short while before his normal nighttime antics?

could really wonky naps just be his canines??

Everyone says how bad canines are, and I'm sure that's probably contributing - but he must be so deeply OT that it is probably mainly that I would have thought?

You are doing so amazingly.  Huge hugs

I just wanted to second everything Claire just said.  I hope things get better for you and that the GP can get some balls moving for more testing!

Thank you.  I just feel like such a failure it's untrue.

I have NO idea what to do about these bad naps and I just don't know how to get out of this vicious cycle.  I'm losing it fast and it's just as well I work four days a week otherwise I think I'd be so frustrated with him!

You are not a failure.  You are doing the best you can with the situation you have.  A lot of moms wouldn't have made it this far in your shoes.  FWIW, I was working when we had hard times with my LO and it was the only way I made it through.  Work took me away from the naps and the crying.  While I know it is important to be there for my LO, it was just as important to be away to recharge.  You have to be in this type of situation to understand.

Sending more hugs your way.

Thank you. ;)

He's not eating much either at the mo.  I am feeling like everything is just going wrong.....

Claire - I am giving the otc stuff before bed and then as soon as he woke in the night, that's what I did last night, it did take him 40mins to go back to sleep at 1am but no real "acting" things from the day and no throwing himself around the bed, he laid down and just was restless till he drifted off when the med kicked in.  I kinda hope that if I do this for a few nights he'll forget about the weird things he used to do!!!

(((((hugs)))))) you are SO not a failure! Do not feel bad about the OTC meds one bit.  Esp. since your doc recommended them.  Your child has something out of the ordinary going on, and it's important to do whatever you have to so that he can get the sleep he desperately needs.  Not to mention YOU need the sleep as well so that you can function!

I hope the additional medical opinions help you get somewhere.  Sometimes things are just so hard to figure out! But hopefully with some new medical help you'll get some answers.  :-*

Thank you all.  :-*

We've had 2 nights of 6/7hrs straight then give meds and back to sleep after about 40mins BUT last night 6hrs sleep then it took him well over an hour (I then fell asleep but he was not asleep) He was in some weird place in the bed when I heard him at 5.45am which always indicated he's been up to his "funny business".  Yesterday nap was an hr - longer than for a while!

Keep your fingers crossed tonight, nap 30mins  ???

I don't know what to do about his routine anymore - any thoughts?

Last night asleep 6.30pm woke sometime around 3, meds at 3.30am woke at 7am nap at 12.30pm for 20MINS OMG......   :o   :o   :o

Could this be because he is getting more sleep at night?  Even if only by an hr or so?  Do you think things will even out or do you think all this time he didn't need a nap and that's the problem?!  :-\  SO fed up of this game now.  :'(

Laura, he is almost 2 right?  I would say that maybe dropping the nap is a possibility.  However, it is not like he is sleeping right through.  Can you AP a 2nd short nap out of him today?  I am sorry - I am not sure.  You poor thing!

He's 20mths and the dropping the nap really is crossing my mind - even though he is not STTN.  He didn't fall asleep in the car when my mum did the school run and he was in the car around an hour...  if he was going to sleep he would've done it then!  I just feel so lost :(

20 mins is such a weird length of nap, not sure you can draw any conclusions from it.  Try 12:30 again and cross your fingers??
