Finn is no longer independent either.  Because we now have to 'talk him into' going to bed.  Part of it is nice that we can get that extra bit of time with him...but part of me worries now because if he's not ready to go to sleep he won't let us out of the room.  A lot of the time he's ed off when we leave because he wants socializing.  Although there are also some times that he doesn't want us in there, tells us to get out but then gets out of bed and parties on his own.

*sigh*  I feel like these kids are broken.  Can we get an upgrade lol??

(((hugs)))

Now you two just you listen here... If I can get through 2hr long NWs for weeks and weeks on end and still NWs now you can get through the 1-0.  Hang in there. :P :-* :-*

will DS go to sleep without you there when he hasn't had a nap?

ETA you haven't broken anything!!  These children are really sent to test how well our adrenaline works when we get no sleep :P ;)

I would still need to be there but he passes out within 2-5 mins!!  I tried my best to stay cool but once he starts to keep askng "what is his name?" about every single car in Cars, i know he isnt calming down.  Tonight i managed to tell him he is getting too tired and he couldnt lay down to listen to the story, so we cannot have more.  He didnt complain too much but just said that he was only a little tired.  After that, it still took him  50 mins to fall asleep!  So a 13h day again!  We have no life and are being looked jpon as weirdoes by friends who have young kids!!  Sucks!

Sorry, Laura, it isnt even that tough for us here.  He did sleep 12h.

You said, once he has adapted to no nap, he would tack but you mean tacking on the nap to the night, right?  What about the ability to handle long A?  Lol ie when will OT monster be gone for good?  Teens?

Yeah I hear ya lol  It's like rushing home to get your kid to bed at 6 and they are so smugly thinking 'well that's why your kid wakes early...you put him to bed too early'  And I want to slap them and scream 'No you idiots, it's not why.  We have been doing this for 3 years...we know our kid just doesn't tack...so don't tell me that putting him to bed at 8 is going to help' LOL

Annnnd exhale.

The ability to handle the long A comes from a regularly long night.  That's what I find anyway.  So if he does a few 12 hr nights in a row, you will find him perked up and able to cope better.  It's when the short nights get in that havoc ensues.  They can't 'catch up' on that missed sleep, once it's gone it's gone.  But they need regulation to help them get to a regular 12 hr day/night cycle.  Or melatonin.  I'm considering using it lol

I would say you may not get the full nap duration - unlikely to get 14hr nights (unless your name is Mashi of course :P ) but we usually get somewhere between 12 & 13 on a good day and 11.5 on a not so good day.

I would say O has been able to handle the long days for about 10mths now... we started nap dropping at 2yrs 8mths... so perhaps a while yet.  I think the only thing which helped keep our sanity was the fact he was now falling asleep again quickly and super ebt at weekends.

Also Koe, I think some kids are just truly susceptible to OT - probably forever.  Genes.  I know that I am and so F probably gets it from me.  DH can easily shift between getting 6 hrs sleep or getting 8 or 9 hrs sleep without issue.  I need to have a regular bedtime and wake time to maintain my sleep habits.  And I really really suffer if I get less than 8 hrs.  I mean I 'get by' but I'm not a happy camper.  Much like my son :)

I must say that overall it has been better!  Just not my own stress and health.  I felt my adrenalin rush, not a nice feeling!

I have several things to digest and to plan how we can adapt to this new routine.  Weekends we are managing better.  It seems as if 11h A might be the optimal for DS probably due to not long enough nights.  I have to solve the light issue also.  That is for another thread.

But then tbh, for DS to handle a no nap day all of a sudden, 11h is a very long time.  He has been doing very well and HE HAD A DRY DAY!!!  Maybe BBB is necessary.  Just too many things... I cant cope!  :(

Posted same time as wendy!  Oh yeah hehe but i am scared of stalkers, like for real, so just keep that to yourself ;). I often have sleep issues. I just googled for foods that help to produce melatonin, hmmm so not what DS would eat.  His best friend's father gave him a little head massage and he was almost sleeping on DH's arms.  When i tried, he said, mommy no massage pls!  :p

Sorry  :-[  Have deleted it from my other post

And it will just get better.  To go from 7hrs to 11hrs A it is a massive jump of course they'll struggle.

I think i really need to work on changing our schedules yet again like wendy has done.  Need a clear mind for it but we dont have it. Lol.

Hugs, Becky!  U mean the nap at 6? Or midday nap?

If i take a whole week off to let him sleep on time, would it help with the overall transition?  Just by the looks of it, this would just go yoyo'ing for a long time!  I know i shouldnt but i feel defeated.

Is it bad to add melatonin to his water at dinner on a day with too long a nap or too late a 10min nap??
