I would definitely try for a catnap, what harm will it do, if she refuses you just put her to bed early.

Beth yes Leorah loves to put her dirty fingers in her hair and she has lots of curly hair to do it with so it gets tangled and crusty  ::) I must say she is getting very proficient with her spoon and fork now and it means her hands stay cleaner and busy so give it a few months and it should get better  ;)

I think the only thing I've not tried is to cut her night sleep... she's usually good for 12 hours, but what if I went to 11.5 hours?  It's risky, but I don't know what else to do.

Of course, that means I'd put her to bed at 7pm, and wake her at 6:30am.  She won't make it til 7pm w/o a catnap.

To think about...

I think it's always a risk to wake them though I often do with Leorah. Have you ever had an alarm to wake you the same time each day? Eventually you wake everyday before the alarm!! I was waking L at 7.30 everyday and suddenly her mornings were getting earlier, still not sure if it is the light sneaking in but was a bit paranoid it was me waking her early everyday, I'm only going to do it on days we have playgroup from now on though I never let her sleep past 8am unless she has been awake in the night or ill. What is the average sleep requirement for a LO her age? If she gets on one nap and consolidates her naplets you will have a minimum of 1 hour which is refreshing and you wont need to cut her night sleep. I read the whole of the old 2-1 thread when we were transitioning and it seems once the transistion is complete all LO's seem to have better quality sleep overall so try to keep this in mind while all this crap is going on  ;)

Agreed - try for a catnap and, if no joy, then early bed.
Now you've pushed her til 12noon for her nap then you may as well stick to that as your new plan, you know she'll only take 30 mins for the first few days then hopefully it will start to lengthen and the catnap (if she takes it!) drop out.

It's so important that you get out during the day and try not to let your life revolve around her sleep (sooooo hard though, I know!)

NO JOY HERE!

She refused pm nap again today.  Up at 12:38pm from her nap, and I tried the stroller 1st today around 4:10pm, but no dice.  Then I tried her crib at 4:30pm, and clearly tired, she wouldn't lie down.  As I was short on time for dinner and bath, I just got her up at 4:45pm.

Should I have tried a later catnap?  I think if she would just sleep about 20 mins at 4:30pm ish, we might survive this transition.

Yes definitely a later catnap, Leorah would drop off in her pushchair somewhere after 4 hours, before that I'd make sure she had been active so once in the pushchair she would relax and eventually drop off. I'll warn you, it is so hard to wake them at 20 mins! I used to get her out and straight onto her trike which was new then so she wouldn't have time to be miserable!

Last night wasn't bad, but I suspect if I keep this 1 nap of 30 mins up it'll get much worse.

Asleep at 6:15pm, few cries at 9:25pm, 4:35am, and 5:55am, and up for the day at 6:25am.

I'm leaning towards the nap at 11am today, and a catnap about 4 hours later.  Or should I just continue 12pm nap, and hope like hell she takes a catnap later?

Hi Leslie, I thinnk you have to go with your gut but whenther she naps at 11 or 12 the outcome is likely to be 30 mins so why not go with 12 again and try for the catnap no sooner than 4 hours after? You can even make it a bit later as it doesn't matter if it leads to a short nap as you will cut it at 20 mins but at least it bump bedtime later which will hopefully lead to a later wake up.

I wanted to ask does she ever fall asleep in the stroller because if not that might not be a good way to get the catnap. The way I approached the catnap with Leorah was that she wasn't having to go for a nap but she would just happen to drop off because she was so tired, I went on the most boring walks I could find and would keep going until she fell asleep which sometimes took longer than others, she wouldn't get OT as she wasn't moving and had the perfect opportunity to drop off when needed. The pram nap also took away the stress of naps as we would be out in the fresh air and I would give myself a cut off time, eg 5pm when I would get her home and quickly fed, bathed and into bed if she didn't fall. In fact I think the best thing was having a plan and a back up as I felt in control.

Let us know what you decide  :)

Well I had no choice today, as my mom usually watches M while I go to the doctor, but traffic today prevented her from coming timely.  M fell asleep in the car on the way home, at about 11:51am, and it was about 12:07pm by the time I got her in bed.

Must, must, must get a catnap later!

UPDATE- M slept 40 mins, til 12:31pm... I think putting her in the crib 15 mins after she fell asleep acted like W2S.
Hoping for a catnap at 4:30pm-

I had to rock her for the catnap, but she's asleep.  I'm hoping I don't pay for this tonight  ::)

Catnap 4:37pm-4:57pm.

In bed at 7pm, asleep at 7:30pm.

Wishing for a good night.

P.S. Is anybody still reading my saga?  It's lonely in here  :(

Hello Leslie, I am up very early to go to my danish lessons! Yes of course we are still with you  ;) To be honest I would do whatever I could to get that catnap, she wont need it forever but I hope it wont upset the other nap, definitely don't rock her for that!! As she dropped off after just after 4 hours is there any point in going for a walk in the pram instead at 4 hours? Or maybe a drive if you have a car, it is a worry she will start wanting to be rocked for sleep again for all sleep. I hope she slept well last night and has had a later wake up with the later bedtime, do the same today so she can set her body clock  :)

Katt- you don't speak Danish (is that the correct term?)?  Is your husband a Dane?

Not sure if she'd sleep in the stroller- and it gets too close to dinner and bath if she doesn't.

She was asleep by 7:30pm, but up at 6:15am.  Heard her a few times around 2:30am and 4am.  I was hoping for a little later wake up.

I am from the UK, Martin (DH) is danish, that's why I'm here. My danish is awful, I am ok with reading and writing but am terrible when it comes to speaking and it doesn't help that the danish love to speak english!

I know you said you have blackout blinds but I would totally recommend blacking the room out completely, we have been pinning black material around the whole window and L has started waking later again, even a little bit of light stimulates the wake up hormones, I myself have been waking around 6am as the light is seeping through my room  ::)

If you don't think she'll sleep in the stroller then maybe it's best not to risk it, the times L didn't fall for the catnap  I had to really hurry to get her in bed but luckily the walk seemed to prevent OT anyway.

L had two naps today  :o Martin woke her at 8am and said she was a bit sick when she got up, it was saliva like and she has a tooth almost through so it is obviously the teething making her tired. She fell asleep at 10am while they were out walking for 40 mins and then slept 1½ hours in the afternoon, why couldn't she have slept like that on two naps??? And why was it a day when I am actually not looking after her, life just isn't fair sometimes!

I hope you have a good nap day  :)

I am still listening! Just not posting much at the mo as I am a bit knackered and, anyway, you seem to be on the right track at the moment  :-*
