On the odd day we get a real short night I might do 2 naps otherwise I hang her out as close to her usual nap as possible and quite often she'll sleep a little longer or I can put her to bed a bit earlier the next night and she'll catch up a bit that way.

YK I think I agree with Lauren. Once on one nap some kids just won't go back (ahem my boys *grumble*) and I think your LO may be one of them. The two naps could be messing her up more. :-\

Given the cu hasn't worked, and the EW are pretty chronic no matter what would you consider a week of trying one nap with a set nap time? If so I would do this
WU 5.30 (anything before this is NW and she stays in bed in he dark, or in your arms if fussing)
Nap 11-2 (let her sleep as long as she will. If she wakes early you APOP. She stays in the dark in her cot or in your arms till a min of 12.30 to let her know it is nap time.even if your cuddling/rocking.
BT no earlier than 6 or later than 7 but if the nap is terrible ie 30 mins and no resettling try a car trip around 4pm for 20 mins and BT of 6.30)

Katherine - interesting to know what you think here Hun - but know you may be a bit busy with NB snuggles ;)

Thanks Sara I think I  will give the set nap and BT a try, only I'm terrified! I don't know if she will last till 11am.

It can be hard keeping them going. You'll have to pull out all the stops entertaining her ;)

Ha you think my lo is normal! We have our own issue in that she's stuck in a early bed/rise because of the real short naps at cm and I just can't get her out of it so no perfect routine here either   :(

I just can't wait til naps are no longer part of our lives (long wait I know!!)

Haha Lauren I know, before 2-1 transition I dreamed about 1 nap thinking it will be so much easier... Hm not quiet. And now it's just like you said, I dream about no more nap.

What do you do if they are passing out when it's not their nap time or BT? I mean actually can't stay awake? Dd did that once in her high chair.

Yeah that's a tricky one. K has started to nod off before but it's either been fairly close to nap time so I've just put her down then or I've managed to rally her round and carry on.

Maybe Sara might be able to advise on that one? I suppose it would really depend how close to her nap/BT she actually did nod off..  X

I would try to keep her busy tbh so she can't feel tired. So get up etc get out for a while and offer lots of water and filling snacks. If she's dropping off go for a walk outside in the fresh air. Read a book, try a puzzle. If it's within 15 mins of nap time and she's a mess then is pd but really try to push this out with a story in her room, or a cuddle and song before pd in the cot.

((Hugs)) I know it's hard :-*

I just think you need to be careful of BT too early incase your WU gets earlier YK? - I think I'd play it by ear but see how the night goes and if your LO doesn't tack on then you probably want to keep BT at 6 at the earliest

Hi ladies. We are 2 days on set nap and BT and OT is just horrible. She started having tantrums and she doesn't usually have them. Her nap is getting shorter now and she has lengthy night wakenings.

June 7 2014

SET NAP and BT Day 1
(10:45/11am and 6:00/6:30pm)

4:30 WU A(6hrs15m)
4:40 I went d in to tell her it's night, she started crying when I left
5:50 tried resettling but laying with open eyes
5:45 out of the crib I felt really bad
10:30 crib very OT
10:45 ish S (2hrs)
11:23 WU and S
11:56 WU and S

12:42 WU A(5.5hrs)
5:43 crib
6:15 ish BT

4:50 ish WU I think maybe earlier

June 8 2014

SET NAP Day 2

4:50 ish WU (6hrs)
6:00 out of the crib
10:30 crib
10:53 ish S(1hr25m+5m)
12:18 WU
12:23 S

12:29 WU A((5hrs35m)
5:44 crib very OT
6:06 BT

3:05 WU then cried then just laying quietly with open eyes motionless OT
4:00 cried I went in to check the diaper no #2( that's how I know it's not the morning WU but middle of the night WU)and gave her Panadol. She just laid there like she didn't care motionless and only cried a bit after I left. This is so unusual.
4:40 ish S

5:20 WU
5:30 I went in to resettle but she is really upset, either moving my hands away from her or plays with them. I tried cuddling her in the chair but she just wants to get up.

Is this normal? She is just so different now that she is so OT. I don't recognize her. She can't concentrate and she is all over the place. Am I doing something that is unhealthy for her? This is so worrisome. And  since she became an independent sleeper I can never resettle her. At what point do I stop?

Thank you!

P. S. I forgot to mention that DD usually wakes up (EWU or regular WU) with a full diaper #2. I don't think she wakes because of it but who really knows! I never usually go in to check because me being there disturbs her plus I can't imagine changing the diaper in a dark and not getting the stuff all over. Her bowel movements are huge and she usually has a leaky diaper. Should I go and change her?
Also she doesn't usually cry when she has EWU, she just lays there and plays and eventually starts whining but doesn't cry. Should I try to resettle?

With diapers - have you tried a bigger size or doubling up at night?  If she has a bowel motion though and you know about it then I think really you have to change her, not sure how you can get round that one  :-\

If she is awake but not crying for you when she wakes, I'd leave her to it.

Set naps do cause OT in the short term.  I would give it a week, any shorter you're not going to know if it works or not really.  The idea is that at some point LO is so OT it starts working in your favour as they crash and do a long nap or long night.  But it is completely your call and if you feel uncomfortable with it, at any point you can call it a day.  I think it's encouraging you got a 5.20am WU though, that's better than 4-something.
