Thanks Layla.  I was surprised she slept so long - I put her in bed at 1:45 and I thought she would never go to sleep!  Now if only she would do 2hrs at 1:30... ::)

I would like to beat my hubby today.  About 2 weeks ago or so I began limiting Brendan's morning nap to 15 minutes and then about a week ago he began ditching it all together.  He was doing great!  Well today I had to be out so hubby was watching Brendan.  When I got home it was time for Brendan's nap so hubby put him down.  An hour later I could still hear him chatting.  So I asked hubby if Brendan had taken a morning nap and he said yes.  Then I asked him how long the nap was and he said 30 minutes!  He had totally forgotten that I had told him that Brendan was no longer taking a nap and that if he really-really needed one it was only 15 minutes.  I also left him this morning with two ideas to help Brendan through his cranky morning period if needed.  So, now it is 4pm and Brendan has not taken an afternoon nap.  I think I am just going to put him to bed early tonight.  I have no idea how much this is going to mess his sleep schedule up.   :-\

Men  >:( ::) ;D

As long as he goes to bed super early, I imagine things will be fine, Tink. And tomorrow is a new day, remember  ;)

I hope so.  I am thinking about a 6pm bedtime.  Usually he goes to bed at 7:30pm and is asleep by 8pm so I figure if I put him to bed at 6pm- he will be asleep by 6:30pm which is 1.5 hours earlier than normal which is how much naptime he did not get today.

Men  >:( ::) ;D

I usually leave him a schedule or notes of some kind but I thought that was being a bit patronizing so I didn't this time.  Well...I will probably go back to leaving him notes.   ::)

BTW...thanks Isabella&Jasmine's mum also.   :-*

Layla, I posted before I saw your second response...when I used to put Ella down at 2pm she would go to sleep in 10-20 mins.  I've been trying the 1:30 thing over the last few days and she goes to sleep about 2:15ish...it's taking a lot longer for her to fall asleep.  For the past few days her pm nap has been 1hr 15 or 1hr 20mins - today's was the longest nap she has had.  I ended up nursing her to sleep too, because she was in there from 1:45 to 2:20 partying, then she banged her head and was crying and I knew there was no way she would get herself to sleep after that!

So anyway, is it worth sticking to the earlier naptime even if it's taking her longer to go to sleep?  In your experience do you think she'll eventually start taking less time to fall asleep?

So far this experiment has been a success story - in addition to the decent pm naps she seems to be sleeping better at night PLUS she slept til 7am this morning...she has also been a lot easier to put down for both her pm nap and bedtime!  No more crying if I leave the room, and no more sitting in the room with her, waiting, waiting...waiting!

I'll try a 2pm nap over the next few days to see what happens.

Ella started doing 7am - 6 or 6:30, but she used to do 7-7.  Today was a 7-7 and I would LOVE for her to go back to doing that all the time!

Thanks for the info!

Okay- He went down at 5:45pm and was asleep by 6pm.  Lets hope he makes it all the way until 7 or so tomorrow morning.

Hi there, I'm back again but this time I have a question about Ella's morning nap...

Since I've been shortening her morning nap, her pm nap has been anywhere from 1hr 15 to 2hrs and for the last two nights her night sleep has extended by about 30mins-1hr.  I usually put Ella down for her morning nap at 9:15 and she is asleep by 9:30.  Today however, she has been in bed since 9:15 - it is now 9:45 and there is no sign of her falling asleep.  She sounds very happy and is babbling away merrily, but this is very unlike her.

So I'll see how she does over the next day or two, but if it continues should I now be giving her a bit of a later morning nap time?  I still haven't figured out the perfect pm nap time and worry that if I change her morning nap time I will be even further away from fixing the pm nap time...

Thanks again!
Michelle.

so Tink, what time did he sleep til?

I put Noah down 1/2hr early due to shortish nap yesterday and low and behold he woke 1/2hr early,6am so 10.5hrs like always.

so I'm not sure if he'll nap this morning or not....

E's mum, I think that if she is sleeping in that extra bit in the morning, her morning nap will have to move forward to probably 3-3.25 after waking. Then if the afternoon nap is starting to run to late, the option would be to wake her after 1.5hrs, hopefully you with then keep 11-12 hr nights. the longer nights will actually make it easier to transition to 1 nap in the long run.

7am.  Which is not bad.  I am letting him chill in his room for a little bit (it is only 7:15am), probably till about 7:30am or so and then I will get him up.  We might need a short nap today since he woke up so early but we'll see.   :)

Thanks Deb, I never thought I would see the day that I would have to wake my baby from naps!!!!!!!

And I love the longer nighttimes, and if it makes the transition easier that's even better!

So I went in to sit with Ella because she wasn't going to sleep...she was sitting up at the end of her bed (the sitting herself up thing is brand new!) and she had taken her sleeping bag off...very cute but there was no way she was going to sleep after that!   So I had to AP AGAIN - don't want to get into that habit - so can anyone tell me how not to get her to sit up in bed, short of velcroing her sleeping bag to the mattress???????

Esmum, my only suggestion would be that if she is not crying you let her be. if she is sitting up, playing or whatever, if she needs she will call for you.

Tink, my goodness 6pm-7am, unheard of  over hear.

ok gals, my ds (11.5months) has been on a 40-45min am nap and a 90min pm nap  for about 3 weeks now.  Both of which i have to wake him (I hate waking him  :( :( :( :( :().  His bedtime is 7pm and he is waking b/w 5am and 6am.  We are not conquering early wakings.  Should I be altering his schedule or just wait it out before shortening am nap again?

Ds has been crawling now for a couple of weeks and is much more active.  This am he woke at 4am and was quiet but awake t'ill i went to spy on him at 4:30 and 4:45 both times he was sitting up leaning against the crib.  When i went in at 4:45 i just lay him back down and he went back to sleep (he just looked so pitiful and sleepy sitting there...like he wanted to sleep but hadn't figured out that he could lie down).  I am wishing now that i had gone in earlier as he may have been sleeping all that time!
