OMG - how cute is J at the wedding. I still can't get over how different he looks on the guitar shot - must be cos he's throwing his head back in glee  ;)

Will have a look for the Yeo Valley yoghurt when I'm in the supermarket (here's hoping that they've reached the north and not just hampshire  ;))- am assuming it's the grown-up natural one?

Whilst I remember I just have to say ... you are a BLW expert!! Don't forget it!  You were such an inspiration to me when I started with Callie, sticking with it despite Alice only eating a little bit.  You've done a fab job :D

Thanks Nicola  :-* Don't think of myself as an expert at all - never mind an inspiration. If it wasn't for you lovely ladies encouraging and supporting me along the way I may well have dropped of the BLW wagon  ;) I know I say it all the time but am so glad that I stuck with it as I just love watching Alice eat - as somebody said last week as she sat next to me eating her bread rusk - 'she looks like a proper grown-up' - yet she is the smallest of the group, bless her.

Eggs - proper love them. I think it's their versatility that makes them so appealing . . . DH makes mean poached eggs on toast which we had for breakfast. Would have been even better if they'd been followed by a creme egg tho!!  ;)

Alice detests having her face and hands wiped - we pretty much have tears every time (real shame after she's had such a great time at the table  :() - Anyone else have this? Nicola - I think I remember you saying that you gave Callie a flannel after she's eaten so she can clean herself - maybe this is the way forward?

Creme eggs bluuggghh  :-X Might as well eat a few tablespoons of raw sugar?!  :P

Berni, yes the Yeo Valley is the natural adult one  :) Josh looks different everytime I take a pic! Funny that.

J also hates having his hands and face wipes. I too use flannels....I do his hands first, then make a game out of doing his face, making some silly noises and sort of squidge his face with it, kwim? He still doesnt like it a great deal but usually entertains him lnog enough to get the mess off  :D

Nic....I agree that dragon fruit can be dull....they're a bit hit and miss. The pink fleshed ones are far sweeter and more interesting, but harder to get hold of. I've only even seen them in Waitrose. And lets face it, who can afford to shop there all the time?!

hello ladies

My lo is 10 months old I have started her on BLW just 2 weeks ago. She loves exploring different taste and texture of foods. Some of her favourate foods are frozen avocado, sweet potato, baby carrots and broccoli. It is such a joy seeing how happy she is :). She can sit in her feeding chair for more than 45 mins (just wondering if is a bit too long sometimes she sits there for over an hour)

I'll be joining and filling all of you in my blw experience. I need the support from all you lovely ladies to keep me going as my husband (who is in-charge of feeding lo her breakfast) still thinks that puree is less of a hassle. And my in-laws are not that keen on this too.

I've got a question . . . My lo is very small built she is only 6.6kg my husband says that I should feed her some puree food to up her food intake so that she will be able to gain weight faster. Should I feed her extra puree food after her blw experience?
I will try my very best to do every little thing with great love . . .

Hi ladies - I'm after some advice again.......

Apples - do you give them raw?  DS will eat raw pear but I'm a bit scared about apples.

About the hand wiping - I wash ds's hands in the sink - he loves it!  He stands on a chair (with me holding) and splashes his little hands whilst I get to the face!  Has he's own soap and I get no tamturms!

Thanks Alison - will check that out.

Dragon fruit?  WTH?? never heard of it lol

I'm assuming Josh has his pincer grip now, Ang, with the sweetcorn etc.  Ioan still needs fist sized things at the mo.

Awel, yes J had his pincer grip sorted from about 8 months  :) If you look back there is a pic of a dragon fruit somewhere on this thread as lots of people say eh up whats that?!!

LiSure....if you started your lo on purees then in theory you're not actually doing BLW...she has been weaned on purees and is making the transition to finger foods. But thats ok, here is a great place for finger food ideas etc! So, tell your hubby and in laws that this is what babies do, they cant be spoon fed forever and most enjoy taking charge of their own eating early on  :P You LO is super cute btw  ;D

Emma, yes I give J apples raw and he seems to cope with them fine. If you want to soften them though, you can stick them in the steamer or microwave for a few mins. The skin usually causes a problem so I peel them first. I might try washing J's hands in the sink.....he loves to stand up (even though he needs me there constantly otherwise he'd fall, and he cant get to standing by himself yet, but he grins from ear to ear if you let him).

Hi ladies~

Things are quiet here today, as our little guy was up all night last night with some tummy troubles....presumably from the rice cereal that I gave him yesterday (why did I DO that??!?, haven't given him rice cereal in ages...)  Anyway, poor little guy is very very constipated and seems in a lot of discomfort  :(  So I haven't given him any food except prunes today, in hopes that they will move things along...... :-\  Any tips?  I know this doesn't have anything to do with BLW, but just wanted to vent I guess!

Thanks,

Andrea

Thanks purplecattypants :)
I definitely agree with you that I should wean my lo off puree food. . . just that everyone else is very unwilling to do so. Your lo is very cute too :) Thanks for your encouragement

Hi Andrea :),

I got this from this website http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/constip.htm

You can do the following to relief your lo from constipation :)

Tummy Massage - Gently massage and rub baby's tummy in a clockwise direction.  Place your hands at baby's navel and massage in a circular motion, moving your hand(s) out and away from the center of baby's belly.

Warm Bath - Some medical professionals suggest giving your constipated baby a warm bath.  The thought is that this may help relax baby and "get things moving" again.  Give a tummy massage as you are drying baby.

Bicycle Legs - Place your baby on her back and lightly hold her legs in a half-bent position.  Gently begin to move your baby's legs as if she is riding a bicycle.  Alternate "Bicycle Legs" with Tummy Massage.  *"Bicycle Legs" also may help to relieve a baby who is gassy.

Or you can give these fruits that are high in fibre like apricots, prunes, peaches, plums, pears, peas, spinach and any other vegetables :)

Try to remember to avoid giving too often and too much of Bananas, rice, applesauce and toast as they cause constipation :)

Hope that helps
I will try my very best to do every little thing with great love . . .

Ang ... are you the sugar police :P :D

Awel, can he try baby corn on the cob? Although Callie has a great pincer grip she often gets things in her fist and then seems to pop them up onto the top of her fist LOL and eats them like that.

Berni ... if you had been here encouraging us along, then we'd have been lost too :-*   As for the face wiping, it is about the only thing that Callie HATES!  Send her into a tizz and a half.  I give her the warm, wet flannel which she eats ;) and therefore wipes her face.  Then I wipe her quickly over.  TBH a messy baby doesn't bother me too much so if she has some cheese in her ear then I don't make too much of a fuss ;) (hoping Ang is not also the 'clean police').

Emma, Ciara didn't manage apples well until she had teeth.  Callie doesn't do well with them either although she loves the taste.  Will try them in the micro.

Welcome everyone xxx

Morning Ladies and LOs (I think all the LOs are gorgeous  ;D)

I like the fact Ang is the sugar police - that way I know if there is some food I'm unsure about giving Alice I can just check with her (tho I don't think I'll be telling her the kind of snacks I have!  ;))

Nicola - you're making me blush now  :-* I'm not too bothered about a messy baby either - but it would be nice to get some of the food off her face and hands so she doesn't end up too crusty by the end of the day!! I'm going to try giving her a flannel to see if that helps - am sure she would love standing up (her fave thing) at the sink to wash her hands - what do you stand them on tho? (Apologies if that's a bit of stupid question)

Talking of mess . . . we tried some of the Yeo Valley yoghurt this morning (it has reached Yorkshire  ;)) which was quite funny. Alice refused to be spoon fed - closed her mouth and turned her head with a look of distaste (wish I'd got a picture of her cutting look!) - so I put some on a spoon for her and she was happy trying to do it herself, she is so independent when it comes to feeding. She seemed to like her first taste of yoghurt - well, the bit that she got in her mouth anyway as I think most of it was on her face and hands  ;D

Apples - I remember someone saying that they heated them up in the microwave for a few seconds to soften them and then sprinkled with cinnamon or nutmeg. I did try it with Alice a while back - but she wasn't interested, mental note to try again

I stand ds on a chair and hold him whilst he splashes around - he is 12 months though so fairly steady on his feet.  I keep asking dh to make one of those pods you can buy - he a carpenter so easy for him to do - 3 months on I'm still waiting! Men LOL!

We're goning to try the apples today - microwaved with cinnamon sounds nice!

Berni, Callie has yoghurt off a spoon which she self feeds.  If Ciara puts the spoon to her Callie's lips she purses them, turns her head as far away as she can and closes her eyes! LMAO

Saying that ... I planned to give Callie some of the homemade lentil curry on pitta last night but she was desperate to have some before it cooled so I blew on some on a spoon and let her taste it.  She ate it happily off the spoon and kept opening her mouth for more.  Strange but true!

LOL at sugar police!!! I just dont think babies need refined sugar, and feel strongly about giving them things they dont need while they're still growing and developing so fast. So many behavioural problems these days can be related to sugar/food additives....just super cautious I guess  ::) Doesnt mean I deny myself the odd bit of dark chocolate or other such fatty treats...I am going to have to do it in secret once J becomes more aware!!  ;D

J has to be super clean too  ::) I dont like mess. Hahahahaha I can literally hear you all rolling your eyes  :P I am going to have to get used to it though arent I?!

Roxymom....it does sound like the rice cereal caused some problems...what is your reason for giving it btw? It has pretty much no nutritional value, have a look on the packet. Its like wallpaper paste  :-X There are plenty of other things you can give if you still want to do purees  :)

Josh loves the spoon/fork...which is good because if we go out I can feed him to stop him making too much mess!!
