LOL Ang!! make sure you put him in his suit to eat the watercress ;)

Callie loves to 'try' lettuce.  Cherry tomatoes seem to be a bit of a hit too.  Cucumber is good for a knaw.  DP let her lick a pickled onion :o  I mean, seriously?!

Tonight we had lasagne which she LOVED.   Had some of the mince mixture (stuffed with veg) blended up with white sauce and pasta spirals and then had some of the lasagne sheets.  Scarfed them all back.  Great fun.

Katie ... LMAO @ Norah.  They seem SO interested in our food for so long, we finally give in, wait with baited breath .... and they eat a coaster :P LOL

Eryn loves pickled onions ;D

well, Norah loves eating plates, placemats, spoons, my ice cream carton, trying to get hold of coffee but real food, or at least the real food I gave her isn't so fun.

The banana got firmly squidged all over me, her, the table, the floor but not her mouth. With the carrots I think I made the mistake of having them on an orange mat, I'm not sure she even saw them, but Lisi's green bowl was a big hit  ::)

Oh well, at least she feels part of things now!

This is exactly the point! Much more valuable in terms of development than eating!

Hi ladies!

I just keep popping in on this thread, hope it's ok :)  Have tried giving our 8 month old DS banana spears, avacado, rice cakes, and peaches lately, and I'd say things are going quite well (not getting too much in the mouth, but no gagging anymore!!!)  Anyway, I'm looking for inspiration for what to try next....the muffins that you ladies were talking about sound like a good idea, although we haven't started any dairy yet, and I imagine there must be some milk/egg in the muffins???

Any suggestions what to try next?  We need something to be a hit!  So far nothing has really excited DS too much :S

Welcome Andrea  :)

Have you looked at the fingers foods for young babies thread on the main feeding solid food board? Loads of ideas there. There is so much you can try. I would avoid the muffins for a while yet seeing as he's only just starting out.

When we first started, sweet potato "chips" were a hit...just drizzle with olive oil and bake in the oven. Although now I have discovered sweet potato makes him constipated  ::) Probably just had too much! Steamed broccoli is also a good one, as well as blueberries (halved and squished slightly), ripe pear & steamed baby corn. Has he got his pincer grip yet?

I forgot to mention....have tried J with tomatoes now and he was fine  :) Have ordered some Whiting from the organic company that delivers our fruit/veg etc so will be making some fishcakes this week.

ETA: Have also started giving Shredded Wheat soaked in OJ for breakfast...not avoiding wheat totally now. Adds a bit of variation!
Also, am going to try dropping to 3 bf's today...he's just NOT interested in either the 11am or 4pm feed, regardless of solids amount. Might as well try for one good feed at 12 rather than 2 rubbish ones of mostly foremilk  :P

ETA: Have also started giving Shredded Wheat soaked in OJ for breakfast..

Poor Josh! Shredded wheat is the food of the devil! Once I dropped to 3 daytime feeds with Lisi (around 11 months I think) I found she fed soooooo much better.

so Norah's first food has been ingested  :D I figured, she wants to eat bowls and placemats - what's the nearest food I have to that? A rice cake - you should have seen her - she was exctatic  ::) I've never seen her so animated! Anyhow, now she's actually eaten something I guess I'd better get myself a bit more together with the 4 day wait and all that. And go and scrape rice cake goop off the floor. Thank God we don't have carpets!

PS, what does ETA mean?

Aww bless Norah Katie! That's so sweet  :) Why is Shredded Wheat the food of the devil??!! I admit, its not exactly appetising..... :-\

Well, Josh STILL wasn't interested in feeding at 12. Or 12:30. Had a few mins then just refused to have anymore. Ate plenty for lunch though?! He doesn't drink well from a cup yet, not enough to replace an entire feed if I expressed anyway.....he's too young for just 2 feeds isn't he?! I'm walking around looking like bl**dy Dolly Parton  ::) Maybe its just the heat here, but he's been like this for a while now regardless of the weather.

ETA means Edited To Add  :-*

Ang .. Callie went through the 'I'm too cool to be interested in feeding' stage a couple of weeks ago.  It lasted about a week and then she just started eating again.

Dolly Parton ... good look ;)

Katie, LMAO here @ rice cakes and placemats!

Yup, who needs breast implants when you've got a baby that wont feed!  ::)

ROFLMAO - I so know that look, enjoy it while it lasts - it beats the shrivelled prunes that appear once you wean  ;) There's that old adage about leading horses to water... he won't be self weaning yet and as long as you're not feeding him too much in the way of solids, which you're not if you're BLW he's just being too cool. Sit it out and hope he gets interested before you pop  :P  You know all the dark room tricks and all that. Take it as training for puberty!

Hi
ok i really messed up. I gave dd carrots today. I had baby carrots that I steamed and then cut in half so she could grab it.
I put it on her tray she picked it up right away and it broke in half. She then picked up the other half and put it in her mouth. I was so scared that she was going to swallow the whole thing I took it out and that was the end of that.
It wasn't that large, but large enough to cause her to choke if she did not munch on it.
Should I have given her smaller pieces or just waited to see what she would have done with it?
Would her gag reflex have kicked in?
So frustrated with myself, I just need to get over this fear of chocking.
DH isn't much better has he choked 8x as a kid and had the Heimlich done so he is totally in fear
