If Finn has a particularly bad night or seems OT we do 11:30/11:45 nap...if he wakes later or goes back to sleep at an EW we do 12 p.m.  It doesn't get us much more than 10 hour nights but we get a good 2 hr+ nap, normally 2.5.

thanks everyone. He fell asleep in the car so it is a 2 nap day. I will try one again tomorrow if we get a decentish wake time.

We would push through EWs and just did one nap, fairly set time and we always find to go slightly later than earlier works better for our short napper!  However now I'm putting him down a little early to get him to short nap to try out my cunning plan ;)

well he slept 10.20 and I gave him 15 mins and he has just gone down now at 2pm.
Maybe I will just have to do a set nap of 12pm with it only being earlier if we have had a bad night or a very early start like Wendy said. I wish this was easier!!!

Ugh, 2 naps is just not helping is it?  Well I would say at least 4 hrs A - so that would be what - 7?  What is his normal bedtime?  Sometimes a set bedtime really helps.  We did a set bedtime when we went to the 1 nap and it helped...for a while lol.

Hugs Becky.  This is why we did what Laura did - pushed through EW's.  A bedtime of 7 sounds ok to me.

thanks everyone. We did 6.50pm in the end as he was such a grump all afternoon. Must have been an OT nap. I think maybe you get the picture as to why we did a CN until 10 months! I don't know which way to turn right now but I am pretty sure that you guys all think I should just stick with one nap. If I am to do that I think I will have to set it like Wendy as all this A time stuff is starting to REALLY do my head in. He is never going to either start waking at 6.30/7am reliably and regularly or nap 2 hours plus so it is always going to be a stressful early nap, early bed situation. I can do that on the odd occasion but it will not work for him every night, he will just start waking earlier. I am so nervous about just doing it but I guess if it all goes horribly wrong I can always backtrack...somehow!?
Something has def changed since he has been ill as 11 hour nights were not the norm here up until then so it is either a drop in sleep needs (oh help!) or the routine just needs a major tweak. What scares me is that he has been doing 13 hours for the past 5 months and that was low for his age so to drop even more is scary!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks as always for listening in - it really does help and I really need all the suggestions and support I can get right now.
Becky x

I know, it's hard to be a high sleep needs mum with a low sleep needs kid lol.  Something mucked up in the DNA there, for us anyway.  But alas I have tweaked and nudged and tweaked and...just couldn't do anymore.  So we just did set nap, set bedtime and worked from there.  It's still not perfect but it is manageable compared to fiddling with 2 naps and not knowing when to put him to bed at night.  At least there are 2 variables we know every day :-)

I am not sure how you backtrack though so I think you have to be confident that you will just get through it.  And so will H.  There will be OT and some fine tuning but I think it's going to be ok.

Hugs!

weird night. Went to bed fine and slept fine till about 4.30amish. Cried out for me and then back to sleep, then his wretched cough made him restless again and then at about 5.20am I could hear him stirring and moaning. Now it is 7.15am and he is still asleep. Not sure what all that is about - I thought OT for sure when he woke initially but he managed to go back to sleep. Hmmm
One nap day for sure...bx

How very odd!!  Don't complain though!  It'll be interesting to see what he naps today.

If it were me I'd aim to have him asleep for 6.30pm - so routine a bit earlier.

Sorry I've missed a lot, but wanted to chime in since our situation has been much the same.  I don't think it's too early.  We've had several days just like yours today, and I always aim for sleeping at 6:30 just like babybarr suggested.  Hope it goes well!
