He's had another hour and 10 mins will just need a cat nap later now hopefully once we get the awake time even longer he won't need that cat nap :) X

Ino the problem is the awake times but it's hard to stretch them out when he's so tired and miserable X
Like now it's 7.25am and he's Alredi rubbing his eyes and Moaning
He was awake from 1am - 2am so lost a hours sleep in the night but surely he can't be tired so soon after waking up X

Hi there it is I'm sure related to A time, honestly I'd just keep pushing or your going to be stuck with a short nap cycle.
My ds2 yawns and eye runs but tired signs aren't as reliable at this age, sometimes we just change an activity or give him a drink of water, have a walk round the house.x

Hi there
Just stopped by to offer some support.

Often LOs get into the habit of napping earlier than their ideal time, this can be really confusing for mums because LO looks so tired.  The thing is thought hat with a short A time, then a short nap, your LO is likely to continue to look pretty tired and be a bit cranky because his naps are not long enough to be restorative and for him to feel fully refreshed.

We often advise to increase A times in increments to avoid some OT naps however if you go too slowly on these what happens is it takes several weeks and by then your LO is 2 or 3 weeks older and ready for an even longer A time...so you can end up chasing those A times and not seeing results.  I would think by now you are quite tired and frustrated and want to just get a move on with this routine.

There is an option to go to some set times for a few days to just get that routine in place. Tracy did similar when she was putting babies onto a new routine and there are examples in the BW books of this.  With the set times you would put LO down for a nap at the next set time regardless of how long or short his previous nap was.  Once the routine is in place you can again become a little more flexible to respond to LOs needs on certain days (ie reduce A times a little after increased level of stimulation).  If you choose to go this method to put a routine in place you would start the day at a time you want it to begin, I notice at the beginning of the thread you said Wu had become earlier which was not what you hoped for.  So you could start the day at 6 which is seems to be now, or you could begin the day at 7am and go from there.
What do you think?

The other option is to base the day on whenever LO wakes up (whether 5.30 or 6am) for now and to time naps on A times.  If you choose this option I suggest you aim for a 3hr 15 min A time and certainly do not put baby down to nap any less than 3hrs, not even a minute.  Many 7 month olds are doing over 3hr 15...and in just a couple of weeks your LO will be 8 months when many are doing 3.5 or even 4hrs A time.  If you don't move on these A time increases in a timely manner I'm afraid you will continue to play catch up on them, Lo will continue to short nap from being UT and continue to look tired and miserable.
What do you think?

The other thing I notice is that BT is quite early.  Although the 6pm ish BT was working for you for a while it seems less helpful just now.  If your LO can do a 12 hr night that's great but you might prefer it to be 7 - 7 rather than 6 - 6.  Sometimes LOs can't do a full 12hr night so the BT and WU need to take this into account.

We can help with these options if you like. Let us know what you think.

Thank you for the advice :) your right and I am tired and frustrated I want him to be able to go longer between naps it will make life so much easier .
The thing with keeping him in bed in a morning is he shares a room with my 4 year old son we did swap him and put him in his own room and my 2 year old in with the 4 year old but it wasn't working well so for now Cruz is in with my eldest. So I can't really leave him to long of a morning as he will wake him up.
Bedtime is early but it kind of works for us after long days I like my evening to myself but then also hate getting up at 5am lol
6am wake up I can cope with id be up at 7 latest for school runs anyway I would like a 6.30am wake time really but I no I can't have everything
My other two go bed at 6.30 & 7.30 so I have to fit bedtime for Cruz in there
So as of tomorrow he is being kept awake at least 3 hours do I just deal with over tired naps ?
He had 40 mins nap this morning shall I keep him up 3 hours regardless of nap times?
Also he is still having 4 bottles in the day and waking once in night for one
My hv said he should have 3 bottles a day and with good times do u give food straight after bottles or in between ? X
Also for his naps I put him down wide awake at bedtime we do his last bottle in the bedroom he drinks and is normally pretty asleep when I put him down not fully as he still turns over gets comfy etc and sometimes here him having a little moan do u think this is ok to do ? I did the same with Chad x

Going by what you've said I'd suggest the following
(minimum of 3hr 15 A time after a nap of more than 40 mins and minimum of 3hrs after a 40 min nap):
WU 6.30
(A time minimum 3hr 15, and get as close to 9.45am as you can for nap even if he wakes earlier than 6.30am)
nap 9.45 - 11.15
nap 2.30 - 4.00
BT 7pm

do I just deal with over tired naps ?
If he wakes with OT naps of say 20 mins use shush/pat or adapted to get him back to sleep and continue to try for 40 mins.  If he wakes again try again to resettle.  Things can get messy during routine set up but if you grit your teeth the routine will settle more quickly.

He had 40 mins nap this morning shall I keep him up 3 hours regardless of nap times?
At least.  In the BW books Tracy kept babies up way way longer than their A time to get them settled onto a suitable routine. We often go slowly on the forums but as you've discovered if you go too slowly you never get to the longer A time and longer nap.
You can use the times above as "set" times for a few days which will get the routine established far more quickly.  This might mean much longer than 3hr A time but that's what Tracy did.  The tiredness, even over tiredness can help to establish the routine.

Also he is still having 4 bottles in the day and waking once in night for one
My hv said he should have 3 bottles a day and with good times do u give food straight after bottles or in between ?
I would not reduce day time bottles yet. IMO 4 bottles per day is totally normal at this age. Milk is still his primary food. If anything you might consider a NF wean if you feel ready to tackle this (personally I'd wait a bit as you want to get the routine in place and it is quite a lot to take on more tasks just now but it is your choice). In any case I would drop night feeds before reducing any day feeds.
Solids come roughly 1hr after milk feeds.  At this age I'd offer 2 - 3 solids meals.

Here's a sample routine based on the above time with the E times added:
WU 6.30
E 6.30
E 7.30 solids
nap 9.45 - 11.15
E 11.15
E 12.15 solids
nap 2.30 - 4.00
E 4
E 5 solids if you are doing 3 meals
E 6.30 BT milk
BT 7pm
NF until ready to wean

we do his last bottle in the bedroom he drinks and is normally pretty asleep when I put him down not fully as he still turns over gets comfy etc and sometimes here him having a little moan do u think this is ok to do ?
Sounds fine :)

So he's woke up after 45 minutes crying so ino he's still tired as normally he would wake up happy X
I've gone in and shushed patted him he's moaning on off now if he doesn't go back to sleep but stays in cot a while longer do I count the wake up time from when he actually woke up or from when I took him out the cot and how long do I leave him to try and go back to sleep? Is 45 minutes good enough for a nap ? I see everyone says 1.5 hours for naps he has sometimes done that long but normally is 45 mins max x

I would just wing it the rest of today and start with that longer A time tomorrow morning, take WU time from 6.30am even if he wakes earlier and do the 'set' nap 3hr 15 min after WU.
Just do what you did today in terms of resettling if and when needed and try not to panic :)
