I should I I put him to bed at 6.30 last night that's why he had that last nap to try make him go longer but he woke at same time so he's had even less sleep
Anyone no how long should he be awake before bed ?
I do ideally want him in bed between 6/6.30 as my other two go at 6.30 / 7.30 and I like to relax of a evening as it's hard work with thre young boys all day but I will put bed later if will help x

Hi there and welcome, I've added a link which is handy to keep for reference Average A times- BOOKMARK ME!

Looking at your day I think you need to push the A time, the first nap your trying is 7am from 5.30 WU which is way too short A time for his age so your getting a short nap at this age your A time would be around 3/3.15 hours. Then after WU at 8am your trying a nap at 1 hours 55 min later which again results in short nap as not enough A time...

I'd say if WU is 5.30 then first nap no sooner than 8.30, if he wakes at 30/35 mins try to resettle him if he naps over an 1.5 hours then make next A time 3 hours min, if he does a short nap then only knock 15/20 mins off A time.

At this age really he should be having 2x 1.5 hour ish naps so you need to push his A time to get a more balanced day. 6/6.30 BT will prob result in 5.30 WU as that's a good 11 hours worth of night sleep.

Naps 30 mins are generally OT
35-45 mins UT
But that's only general and doesn't always apply.

Hope that makes sense  :)

Thank you for the advice I read some he wake time should only be two hOurs and he always seemed tired after two but I will defo move it up
Well this morning he was acting. Tired after a hour I kept him up as long as possible and finally lay him down just over two hours he moaned for a few seconds and went straight to sleep and slept for 1 & half hours I enjoyed my nap
So we got up and he's had his breakfast and I'm going to try and keep him up now for 3 hours I'll see how he goes I'm defo gradually going to do that I've always thought he should be awake longer as he's bigger it's tiring constantly needing to put him for naps
So he got up at 8.55 which would make his next nap due at 12ish but that's lunch time for us so what should I do there I don't no if he will be to tired for lunch but will miss it if he sleeps a long time X

He might not manage a full 3 hours straightaway but some can handle a big jump.

I often do a split lunch so give him some early then finish it after nap x

If he's awake from last nap at 3ish then BT would be 6 unless you popped 10 min CN in to push it to say 7?

Thank you :) his last nap he lasted just over 2 & half hours and then went down he only napped 40 mins but think it was the kids playing out the back that disturbed him only took a few mins for him to settle also that was 11.35 - 12.20 he's coming up for 2 & half hours now so is going to need another nap X

The more you push you should find the naps extend too, sounds like a good day :)

I'd keep extending the first A time initially so your getting a better first nap. So if he's up at 5.20 first nap no sooner than 8.20

Thank you I think your defo right as today he went down for his nap a little after two hours and he was awake after 40 mins I thought it would be OK as he went down after the same time yday and slept the 1.5 hours but obv not which has threw my day now
So because he's had a short nap you said I should only shorten his awake time by a little bit ? He woke up at 8.25 I left him 10 mins to see if e would re settle but he didn't what time would the next nap he was going 2.5 hours between naps after the first one yday
I'll be glad to get to the 3 hour awake time X

So 40 min would indicate UT, so I'd stick to 2.5 hours until next nap unless he's totally getting past it, don't forget at this age yawning, eye rubbing isn't always tired it can be bored, thirsty. So if you get to 2 hours try changing activity or to extend the A time do low key stuff like a walk round the house, garden then read a book etc just to keep them going but not massively stimulated. If that makes sense.

My 6.5 month had 3 hour 10 min A time this morning so you should be heading closer to 3 hours soon, although of course they all differ. Generally if you are getting less than 1.5 hours it's UT.x
