Ok, thank you.

We had a night waking last night at 2am. Got him up for 20mins for a cuddle and some nurofen and he went back to sleep until 5.53. My sure if i did the right thing and whether it was the cuddle or the meds that helped. It's going to be a looong day I think!

So I gave meds and he had a snack at 10.30 but awake after only an hour. He was pretty tired and yawning from the time he got up though...I'm going to try and resettle.

I probably didn't even need to go in as he self settled almost the second I sat down next to the cot and was up at 1.38!! So a little of 2.5 hours in bed. Could it be the nurofen or the later wakeup therefore not OT?

Sorry, one more post!
So after some nap and some lunch we had a lot of unhappy behavior. Clingy and crying/arching when being put down, clumsy and whinging and generally upset. Could It had haven teeth or too much/too little sleep?

In bed at 6 and was in deep sleep by 6.25. I think I'll try some dream meds at 1/1.30

Hi Naomi!

H woke last night at midnight and cried for a while but it mustn't have been too bad because I drifted back to sleep as my alarm was waking me up for dream meds about 1.30. Unfortunately I woke him up and he cried for a few mins before going to sleep and slept until 5.53 from 6pm bedtime.  I just wonder why the other night wakings!

Today's nap was 1.5 hours in bed (do I just count sleep from the time I put him in bed and is quiet until the time he chats?).

WU: 5.53
GU: 6.00
E
A
S: 11-12.30 (woke happy as usual. tried to resettle for 45 mins but wouldn't go back to sleep)
E
A
BT: 6.00. No fussing/noise and asleep by 6.30. As I don't have a video monitor, I do a quick check at 6.30 so I don't wake him so he could have fallen asleep earlier.

I wondered whether I need to push the morning sleep a little but he yawns and rubs eyes and starts getting grumpy and irritable around 9am! What timings would you suggest for lunch and snacks? I've been giving quite a few snacks but lunch after as he's too tired to eat much anyway!

So I'm just continuing to post so I have something to refer to and keep my mind from exploding! Haha

Last night he went down great at 6pm but woke at 2.45 crying. The crying went on for an hour with long breaks of 5ish minutes between cries at times. It wasn't a pain/discomfort cry :( I tried talking and asking him to lay down it was sleepy time and then closing the door but he didn't go to sleep. Eventually went in and he was sitting up but slouched down one side of the cot. I spent 15 minutes encouraging him to lay down by himself by patting the mattress but nothing so I emjust lay him down, patted the mattress for a few mins and left. He was quiet for about 1/2 hour then I heard a little chatter and then silent until 6/6.15ish. So tired I just wanted to ignore him and sleep until midday! Haha

I'm not really sure what to do or where To go from here...

Hey sorry I didn't come back here yesterday. It's starting to look a lot better. It could be teething that is still affecting those NWs, or just the adjustments in sleeping time. I would hold onthis pattern for a few more days and maybe then move nap later again a little to hope to shift WU later again and the whole day with it.

Keep up with the meds, they're obviously doing something at the moment, and yes, teething could really be affecting his mood in the day too.

that's ok Naomi! Just feeling quite anxious about the whole not sleeping and NW problems. I was also told me a child nurse yesterday that teething pain was a myth and that I was self medicating my child for no reason other than to knock him out :( Needless to say I've been very upset since and not medicating nearly as much. I know what she said is a load of crap but have felt bad about it ever since.

I'll keep with the 11am sleep with lunch after it, for a few more days and see what happens.

I'm also feeling really alone since I can't drive and after just having moved house before Christmas I have no mother's group or support. My mum who I thought would be very helpful turned out not to be....

Thanks so much for coming back to check in on us. I really appreciate it.

Laura

Oh Laura, I'm so sorry this happened. Who is this nurse!!!!
I have recently had tooth trouble and it has been keeping me up at night and making me very grumpy. I certainly needed my meds to get through. I have no qualms about giving my Dd medicine as I really do believe she needs it. If it makes a difference to your DS's sleep then it must be soothing some pain. I'm not a doctor but I don't believe paracetamol or ibuprofen have any sedative effect, so how can they be knocking your child out?

((((Hugs)))) I'm sorry you're having a tough time. Xxx

Thanks Naomi - much appreciated.

Ok, so we're still getting 1.5 hour naps but last night was the first night we had no night wakings. Interestingly I doubled his clothing (long sleeve bodysuit w/ no legs + 2.5 tog sleep bag) and he was nice and warm/not sweaty when he woke up. HOWEVER, he has been a grizzly, crying, tired mess all day. Throwing tantrums left right and centre, things like falling over was enough to set off the tears!

So, what do I do now? Do I maintain 11am sleep? Every single day I have spent 45 minutes trying to resettle and he just lays there awake, finger sucking and playing with comforter. Doesn't even ATTEMPT to close eyes and drift off. He's obviously extremely tired and I don't want to push him too much but do you think I should move the nap slightly? Would lunch stay after nap - I just feel he's too tired to eat atm but he may eat something more substantial if I offered it. Just not sure how to structure the day at all. He is going down well at 6 (because he's so damn exhausted) so hesitant to push that too much too.

22-Jan
NW: 2.45-4.30
WU/GU: 6.15
Nap: 11-12.35
BT: 6.00

23-Jan
NW: none (yay!)
WU: 5.30
GU: 6.00
Nap: 11-12.35
BT: 6.00

He's been quiet each night I put him down at 6. no crying or messing around. As he's such a light sleeper I don't tend to check on him until 6:30 and he's always asleep by then but of course could have fallen asleep much quicker and earlier.

Would love your advice. xxx

P.s. I'm also off to a sleep school next Thursday for 5 days. Due to the risk of climbing; it is their policy to place toddlers over the age of 15 months in toddler beds. A very scary prospect and I could find I have more issues on my hand...but then again, nothing I'm doing here at home is working so I guess I have nothing to lose.

Today we went to the park but he was falling asleep in the pram at 11. Into bed at 11.25 but woke at 1. Tried to get him back to sleep but didn't work again. Into bed at 6 - quiet but not sure when asleep.

Not sure where to go from here. He's been so OT and cranky - crying every time he falls over when walking (which is a lot).

It's only 9.56pm here and he's already started screaming banshee style. Should I be going to him during these wakings? If so, what do I do?

I based it on his mood prior to nap/bedtime. I have him teething gel last night and apart from the 9.45 screaming for 10 mins he slept until 6.

I wonder if I should move that sleep again today to 11.15/20?
