Carmela's Mom

He probably could have lasted maybe 15-30 more minutes.  You probably could have put him down for 115pm, to fall asleep by 130pm.  A nap of 45minutes usually indicates more A time.

oRowland- no need to congratulate...not sure we're there yet!  lol!

We were doing 1:30 but I wanted more A time before bed.  I really hate to move bedtime back because right now my 3 year old goes to sleep when he does and she'll give me a hard time if her brother isn't going to bed!

OliverRowland - I'm sure you're right, but I just haven't the faintest what to do about it. If I can't get him to go to sleep before 11am, whatever his wake up time, then there aren't enough hours in the day to fit in two naps. The only option seems to be to persist with early bedtimes, but he won't go to sleep then either!

Sami - it's great to hear that there's light at the end of the tunnel, even if for a while. Am sure we must start breaking through this eventually... sometime before they get to the transition to no naps anyway  ;D

Carmela's Mom - did you try resettling him? Sometimes Ollie would wake early from a pm nap when he'd had a short am nap and I could usually get him to go back off with a couple of PDs.

MamaHolmes - maybe he needs a longer A time in the PM? Just throwing it out there.  Maybe he didn't fall asleep cause he wasn't tired enough, then got into playmode and it got out of hand iykwim, then cause he fell asleep so late, OT.  But maybe what he needs as his normal routine is a slightly later bedtime?  And food closer to bedtime? 4:30 through to the wakeup time you want is a long time for no food imo.

Hmmm, maybe... I could try giving him 5.5 hrs A time before bed and see how we go. After all, it couldn't be any worse could it!

BTW, both our LOs will be v close in age won't they - I'm due two days after you :) Am hoping we'll have got through this transition before the next one gets here...! How's your transition journey going?

I don't know what just happened to us last night LOL.  We had got the naps back to longer, the nights were back to normal (so sometimes sleeping through, sometimes just need to see me for a sec then back to sleep) and I had worked out about the morning SA, so was managing to get her to sleep til 6:30/7am. Then yesterday we took some friends of our visiting from Denmark on a day trip - Zara was up at 6, fought tooth and nail not to have to go to sleep til 1:45 and slept for an hour in the car (which we consider ok for her, we knew she wouldn't sleep much while out).  Went to bed was asleep by about 6:50, woke around 7:50 and wouldn't go back to sleep, was ripping pictures off her walls and trying to look out the window to see the dog next door who was nuisance barking GGRRR.  Then woke about 4 more times before we went to bed, then finally slept OK from 10-1:10am, then DH had enough, brought her to bed, then the kitten meowed and meowed and Zara wanted to get up and play with it.  Then I finally took her to her bed at 2:15am, and tried to leave her there, and she got really upset, so I laid with her, and ended up staying til 6:10am - and she was so restless, and kept crying out in her sleep.  I had to get up when I did, cause I was busting for the loo :P And now she is playing and happy and giggling, so who the heck knows.

She has had naps of just 1 hr heaps of times when we are out for the day, and the consequences have never been this bad ::) :-\.

So, we were doing fine, waiting to see what today brings LOL.

Hi

I'm pretty new to this, but just wondered if anyone can offer advice?

My little bot is 11.5 months old & up until this week has been good on 2 naps, his routine being as follows:

WAKE- 6.15AM
NAP- 9AM
WAKE- I WAKE HIM AFTER 45MINS (THIS ENSURES HE HAS A GOOD AFTERNOON NAP)
NAP- 1.45PM
WAKE- AFTER ANYTHING UP TO 2 HOURS NAP
BATH, BOTTLE, BED- 7PM

But beginning of this week it was taking him up to 45mins to settle for his second nap, & for the past 2 naps has not wanted his second nap at all- meaning him being awake from 9.45am until 6pm (I put him to bed early!)
Does this mean he is starting the 2-1 transition, or is he too young for this?
Should I start shortening his AM nap to say 35mins now? Will this help him to have his PM nap again?

Any advice would be much appreciated.
Jxx

J,
yuo, definately just shorten the pm nap to 30min.
I would do nap 9:30-10
2nd nap, in crib for 12:30 and then let him play, fall asleep when he wants to, maybe 12:45-2:30----something like that.

Jodie, I think that's when we started our 30min am nap...or close.  I  had a similar schedule but  when shortening the am nap I started to make it later.  so, let's say 9:30-10am and then 3hrs later for his second nap.   9:45 am to 6pm is a very long time....how was he at 6pm?  Hopefully you can get him back  on track before he gets too over tired.

jodie...i agree with deb.  i would start limiting the am nap to 30minutes...EXPECT him to not like it!

US~
So this is the pattern that has emerged....

11hrs night....2hr nap.....
equals tired and falls asleep fast at bedtime.
Due to previous day tiredness, she sleeps....

11.5hrs night....then a 2hr nap.....
takes awhile to fall asleep at bedtime.
Resulting in an 11hr night.

We seem to have one day of 13hrs sleep, then the next 13.5hrs.  She is waking exactly at those times all on her own.  This would be day 6 or so now of this pattern.

I hope it sticks.

hey gals, we did 2 days of 1 nap in a row.  He had 2.5 hrs nap on friday and 2.25 hrs nap yesterday.  this am he woke at 5:45am and same yesterday (i think even earlier and may have gone back to sleep for a bit?).  i cannot understand if why if it has anything to do with ot....but do you think it might be because of too long naps?  I am soooooooo scared to fall back into ew!  We suffered thru ew for such a loooooong time and really do not want to go back there!  I am super happy with 6am or later!

Well, just wanted to pop in and say hi - I have been testing my theory that she is extra cranky on two naps a day and so far so good - she is happy as can be (despite teething) on one nap a day and sleeping 13hrs at night.  I probably just jinxed myself but oh well.  She's waking at 8am (don't slap me please!) and nap is at noon for two hours and bedtime at 7pm.  Totally not "normal" but it's working for us and she's not cranky (who gets cranky on too much sleep??!?) so we're just rolling with it for now!
