how long are you giving him for A time between waking and nap?  seems like you are waiting a tad long...if he's only napping 1/1.25hrs......

Yes what are most people doing with A times?  We had 4hrs in the am yesterday and 6 in the evening, she seems to do well with that so we may try it again today...she is in a MUCH better mood today!

I give him about 5 hours.
Its been like this for a bit. It was 5 hours when he took his monster nap too :) :) :)

Thing when I cut his A time shorter there is no way he will take second nap, well maybe only in car, super late like 5, but I dont have car most days, and then it brings his bed time way too early, I mean when bedtiem is 6 or 6.30, he will be up at his best at 5 because there is now way he sleeps more that 11 hours per night.
So there we are ::) ever changing.

Efka, could you still fit in a morning cat nap?
even 15min at like 4hrs of A time (so maybe at 10)
and then longer nap at 12:30-2:30?

Aaaaarggh!! I canNOT get this boy to go to sleep in the evenings!!!

All is going pretty well for us, we've had to go for one nap as there was no combination of A times and short am naps that made it possible for him to have a pm nap that ended before 3pm (or even close). He seems to be doing well with 5 hrs A time in the morning (although he still takes 20 min or so to go to sleep - not unusual for him though). Nap is usually a solid 1.5 hrs and today we even had 1hr 45. Night wakings have gone right down and he has had a few 11.5 hr nights and even a 12.5 hr night!

BUT! I cannot find an A time that works in the afternoons. I put him down after just over 4 hrs A time yesterday and it took him 2 hours to go to sleep! Tried 5 hrs A time today and he's still not asleep after 1hr 45 mins  :o

Anyone else come across this? In 7 of the last 9 days it has taken him more than an hour to get to sleep.

yep.

i think...and im crossing fingers, i think it was just a phase.

we were having bedtime playfests up to 6/6.25hr A time.  about 2wks of it....

now our last time seems about 5.5hrs max.

i just kept putting her in her crib at a safe A time...as not to ot or ut.

hang in there.  maybe you need a routine tweak?

Morning cat nap wont work :-\ , while he will go down beautifully , when I wake him, he will not go down later than 2.And it messes us more. I tried different times and he just screams when put in bed and when I took him out he runs happily away. ??? ::)

Its 10 pm now, he is been sleeping little less than 4 hours, I heard him make some noises couple times, but no real wake up.
Keeping my fingers crossed.

No MommaHolmes, Most DS will stay still in his crib is 10 minutes when he is not asleep by then he stands up, starts to shout, throws thing shout and when he does not get noticed he rocks the crib, jumps, scream, cries, anything to get out, at this cases , I have to take him out and try little later when he usually goes down beautifully.

He's finally gone to sleep - after 2 hours in his cot, making it 7hrs A time since his nap.

I'm sure we do need a routine tweak!! But it's reassuring to know that someone else has experienced the same thing and come out the other side. We've only really settled to one nap in the last week - I've tried offering am catnap anywhere from 3hrs to 4.5hrs after wake and let him have 1/2hr in his cot but he doesn't sleep. Our average day looks like this..

6am wake (we've had wake-ups anywhere between 5:30 and 7:30 in the last week)
11am in cot
11:30am asleep
1pm wake
6pm in bed
?? asleep (today it was 8pm)

I'm tending to give him his lunch after his nap, skip the afternoon snack and combine it with his dinner at about 4:30pm.

Any suggestions gratefully received!

mammaholmes:  your schedule is very similar to ours.  on our 1 nap days this is how it goes:
6am w/u
11:00 lunch
11:45 - nap...2-2.5hrs
milk and snack after nap
7pm bedtime

*I too have noticed some difficulty with bedtime.  What has worked with us is more windedown as ds seems more wired and still ready for action.

we did 2 naps today because 1 nap yesterday.  so, 20 min in the am and I woke him after 1hr 45min in the afternoon ....he was very upset with me!  I just cannot win!  I am really looking forward to being on 1 nap so we can have some consistency again!

Waaaaaa! Worst night in two weeks  :'(
He woke at 2:30am and didn't settle until 4:15.
I think that confirms that the problems settling at night are because of OT. 9 hours sleep, not good.

Sooooo, what do I do now?? Can't get two naps out of him. Don't know whether the OT is because of too long an A time before his nap or after his nap. He settles for his nap fine and sleeps for 1.5hr+ and I've tried everything between 4 and 5 hrs A time after his nap. Only thing I can conclude is that he needs even less A time after his nap... but that doesn't fit with what was happening on two naps cos he needed a min of 4 hours A time before he would sleep again after a decent nap  ???

He got up at 6:45 in the end so I think today I'm just going to stick to clock times and put him down for a nap at 11am and then plan for him to be in bed, whatever happens, at 5pm.

As good a plan as any I think, I've tried everything else!

I'm back  ::)

Ok this is our deal.  I've been putting Joey down at 9:55 for his first nap.  He usually falls asleep around 10:00 (sometimes later) and I wake him at 10:30 no matter when he fell asleep.  I put him back in at 1:15-1:30 depending how long he slept.  He usually sleeps that nap 1.5-2 hours.

He goes to bed at 7:00 and on days that he has two naps, he's up EARLY the next morning.  Like before 6:00 am

The days that he has one nap (which he gets when his sister has playdates, etc. in the morning), he sleeps 1.5-2 hours, goes to bed at 7:00 pm and then wakes at 7:00 am.

I'm not sure if I should switch him over to one nap or what to do.  Please help!

Well, offered a nap at 10am in the end cos he was so grouchy (unsurprising on 9 hours sleep!) but he didn't sleep so got him up and gave him half his lunch and put him back down at 11:10. He was asleep by 11:30 but woke, lively as hell, at 12:30 and would not settle back down.

We'd been doing so well. I'm baffled  :-\

unfortunately, until they can handle having 1nap everyday....on 2nap days, we just have to bear with that early wake.  hang in there.

US~ we're in a groove at the moment and im not saying anything about it, as i really don't want to jinx us!  plus, now that the 'play' mania seems to have subsided...she really is doing the whole routine on her own.  she was a 'mom must wakeup' type babe or she'd sleep all day...and i am finding that she is waking only seconds before i want her up anyhow and the waking from naps is new too.  now im just trying to see how long the pattern will stick for....x'ing fingers that we are almost there!

hope everyone has a great weekend!

Ugh so today he fell asleep at 10:10 for first nap, and I woke him at 10:30....so I put him back down at 1:00 and he woke after 45 mins :(  Not sure why!
