Oh, I wish someone were on right now!

I can't believe that NOW she wants to sleep.  We're headed for an hr long first nap.  Finally she wants to take a good nap. But of course I'm worried about letting her sleep too long where she doesn't take a second nap.

Okay, she woke on her own at an hr.  So we'll wait 4 more hrs (3 o'clock) for her second nap.  Hopefully today's activities will get her worn out and she'll take a half way decend second nap.

How long should I let her sleep for the second nap (if she takes one) so to avoid NW from too much sleep?

again Sami, congrats :)

same nap times-- we do this mostly (am nap is always 9 or 9.15) but ya, I'd be careful if her wake up time is really early.

Babyre 33- uh-oh.  We had a great routine like that right around 12 months.  He'd sleep 45 in am and then we did a huge A time afterwards, and he'd nap from like 3-5, but it got harder and harder to get him down for bed (at 7.30) and we got earlier and earlier wakings.  be careful! I think your best bet is the 20 min am and long pm, just stick with it,it (hopefully) will get better (longer I mean).

MandN's mom- have a great holiday!! Good luck to your mom!

We had a nw last night at 2.30-but he went right back when I went to him- maybe bad dream? I don't know he does this smtms lately.  Then a 5.45 wake up today and no quiet wait today- he was screaming and crying :(  but routine went well today with 20 am and 2hr pm and 6.30 bedtime.  Just hope it doesn't turn out to be too much day sleep-- we'll see

good luck everyone
Kristi

Hi babyre,
I have been ther with the early wakes. I found it best to work from a 6am start and 6:30 bedtime. you can then shift things forward. It doesn't work to have more/longer naps to get later bedtime. all you are doing then is changing the number of day and night hours versus actually shifting.
I think a 30min am nap and 1.5hr pm nap would work well for you. Although the pm nap was only an 1hr yesterday, it may actually get longer if you are consistant with the 30min am nap.

so :
wake 5:30/6 not out of crib til 6
nap 9:30-10
nap 1-2:30
bed 6:30

as you get a good amount of day/night sleep established---you then start shifting

How long can your lo's go on a 20 min nap?  We just went from 30 to 20 a couple of days ago so I have been giving 2h A time in between and he is CRAZY active in between so should be tired, but after 45 mins he is still up there playing...same yesterday.

Uh, oh...now he's starting to cry  :-\

kubko goes longer than 2- actually today he finished 1st nap at 9.35 and he went down for 2nd nap at 12.30, so almost 3 hours :o A time and he slept 2 hrs-- yesterday was our first day at 20min nap and he did 2hr40 and went right to sleep and slept 2 hrs

kristi~ the 2hr40min of sleep probably caused kubko's early waking.  i would try to stick with a 20min nap and the 2hr pm nap...until you see ew'ings again...then i would maybe cut the pm nap to 1.75hrs.  at least until he makes the switch to one.

babyre~ i think i entirely agree on Deb's advice to you....work with the wake up time you are getting, then be consistent about it everyday.  i think it is stacy who says to take the amount of time lo woke early by, then split in half and push them that much closer to their "normal" nap time.  that way you are really only 'off' by 15mins or so.  i think you really need to just stick with a 20/or 30min nap in am, and let the pm nap be the long one.  i think at our lo's age, letting them sleep really long in the am can be really detrimental to some.  omo though.

well its nap time for us and i haven't heard a peep.  we did however, tired the poor girl right out!  lol!

Sorry Mamalou.  I guess i read that wrong.
IN that case, Kubko did great...he probably couldnt wait this am cuz he's a bit sick.  Avery has a lower tolerance for waiting in her crib when she isn't feeling well.

well we had a short nap day  :P
Noah did well last night, slept 7:15-until 6:55 am, out of crib at 7:30am
nap at 12:15, but woke at 1:30, woke a bit upset, hung out in crib til 2,

so I know he has done longer A times than that in the morning, so not sure if he was OT or what. It does suck either way, and we are in for an early bedtime.

Sami, glad you had a good nap/ good night.

sami, are you on a regular 1 nap day now?  Or do you bounce back and forth from 1 to 2?

oliverrowland,

we are on one nap now.  ive had a rough time getting her A times correct, cuz she seems to want to keep adding to them.

our night was suffering...and now it doesn't seem to be...fingers crossed for now.

you are all right I'm sure.  I remember last time this happened (not 5 am wake ups though, just early) I did what you are suggesting, and it did work.

however, I am nervous about a short nap just because it hasn't even gotten me one hr in the past week or two.  Today we were very busy, had a lot of activity, and she slept 1 hr for both naps.  I had to wake her for the second.

I know she'll get less than 11 hrs sleep tonight because of the day sleep, but I hope she'll at least wake at 6 or 6:30 so we can do a short nap day.

She is very clumsy and cranky tonight.  I wonder if she's been getting enough sleep lately all together.  Because if she wasn't , then when she finally does get some sleep - like today - she wants so soak it all up and acts extra tired for a day or two as she "catches up".

We haven't had any NW , and she's had a full nights' sleep, but bad naps, so i don't knwo if this is the case.

I hope to start fresh to morrow with a reasonable wake time...cross your fingers for me I'll cross them for you OliverRowland that I didn't screw things up too badly.

I was wondering if anyone could take a peak at my day for me?  I've been doing the 30 min nap for awhile....  Anyway, I think the 30 min nap is too much because she's started refusing her pm nap.... but we're not quite to the point where we can handle the 5 hrs A time to go for 1 nap.  (I know, against my better judgement, I've tried it twice.  ::))  I don't have early wake-ups (yet  ::)) but I am having 1-2 N/Wings and she's throwing a fit at bedtime.  I thought dropping the catnap was bad but this is sooooo much worse!  :(

This is what our day is like with the 30 min nap:

0730 wake
1030-1100 nap 1
1400-1530/1600 nap 2
1900/1930 bedtime

I don't think she can go past 1100 without some fairly serious consequences....  Also, the past week, she will not do more than 2 hrs day sleep.  So, lately the 2nd nap has been 1.5 hrs.  So, how does this look:

0730 wake
1100-1120 nap 1
1320-??    nap 2
1930 bedtime

TIA!!!!

babyre, fingers crossed!

well noah was quite happy and did well despite the short nap, got tired at 6:30, in crib for 6:40. I am hopeing/praying that he sleeps til 6:30am at least, and that we can have a fresh start in the morning as well.

Mimi's mom,
give it a go! see what 20min gives you and let the pm nap run maybe 1hr45min.  in crib for 1:20 sounds about right. she may take 15/20min to actually go to sleep. I would have the nap end by 3 or just after to protect bedtime
