Has anybody heard of extreme fussiness being an sign of undertiredness?  I've been perplexed at dd's clinginess the past few days, not sure if it's teething or developmental or what.  But I remember the two weeks before she went to her one nap a day for a while she was clingy and fussy as well, then was cute as a button the two weeks she was on one nap a day...coincidence or should I try pushing one nap again??  Will we ever figure it out?  LOL!  ;)

Kathleen,
I am not sure about that, maybe its just a result of all the people you have had around? she is maybe wanting some extra attention.

Well I've layed Noah down at 11:45ish, he is definately tired, but he did not go straight to sleep, I hope thats not a bad sign, if he wakes up early OT, then I think we are back to 2 naps for awhile. I honestly do not want his one nap starting any earlier then 11:45 (which is 5.5hrs after wake) if thats too much A time then I may start offering 15min in the am again.

okay deb...ive thought about it.

i WISH i could say she was ot....a little part of me wishes it was, cuz then that is at least something i can work with.

throughout dd's life, her A times are consistent and deadon...unless ill (only twice so far) or severely teething.  if i say she will fall asleep at 5hrs, she does on the nose.  we have had points in her life where all A times were the same eg; 3.5, 3.5, 3.5, as well as ones that added on during the day eg; 2.5, 3, 3.5.  when she finishes this round, she will be exact once again.  it's just a matter of time.  if memory serves me correctly, each time she pushes a new A time...its about 2/3wks of sucky weird sleeps...that oddly enough, form a pattern that sticks.

when she is ot...like on nights that she falls asleep past 8pm, she will cry out the second transition in (for sure), and periodically through the night.  she then early wakes.  unless she is changing this up on me, it seems to be how it goes.  these nw'ings maybe only have to be tended to once in awhile.

the only time she has silly play time middle of the night, is when she has too much daysleep.  she slept perfectly soundly last night, and went to sleep within 30mins of going to bed (which is when i actually wanted her to sleep anyhow).  exactly 8hrs later, she woke and played for 1.5hrs....at which point i went in and told her to quit the partytime, it was still sleepytime...and she went back to sleep till 7am.  on early wakes due to ot, she never ever falls back to sleep...she is up and wired.

so after thinking about it...im pretty sure we arent in ot land.

thanks for making me think about it though.  ;D

oh btw, why can't noah try one nap after 5hrs?  i am doing 5hrs before nap with avery now (eventhough i know she can do 5.5hr just fine--doesn't fit into the day now) and 6hrs after.  what is his A time after nap?

So he did 2.5 hours :o :o :o UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!

Anyway he was sleeping 7.40

Hoping for a good night and late morning :) :)

Sami, I here what you are saying, but I guess like anything in this transition, there are NO definates, LOL!
Noah never did that play in the night thing before either. he always woke crying etc, or early in the evening etc. Now if he does it, it has always been a time when he went to bed a few minutes too late, and took a while to fall asleep. whenever that happens, he was OT by the time he actually fell asleep for the night. I actually posted in Sleeping for toddlers, about the night play sessions, and OT was the answer I got...lo and behold, I starting putting him to bed a few min earlier, he was falling asleep easier and sleeping better!

I guess I'm just looking at the 6hrs (by the time she fell asleep) on a 1hr45min nap, that is a long time!  Or at least it would be for Noah. true that she only had 5hrs before the nap, so you do have to consider that.

Now us,
Noah seems to do best (or WAS anyhow) on 5.5hrs in the am and 5hrs afterwards. There have been times when he has done 5hrs before and then only napped 1hr30min, which sort of sucks... I am really afraid of a one nap day starting at 11:15,  :P I also am still leaving him in his crib til 7am, and would really like him to start sleeping closer til 6:30
Noah is like Avery though, has always had long A times and not needed as much sleep as most. I would say 13 is the average,  yet at the same point he gets OT easily.
yesterday with the 10min am nap didn't work out aswell as planned, he then only slept 12:30-2, so was asleep for the night again by 7pm.

sami, we are the same...happy playing in the crib = too much sleep!  (i think as we rarely if ever get ot)

so, this is today:
5:45am wake up  :( :( :( :( (and playing in crib t'ill 6:30)
9:40-10:20 nap (was not happy to be woken up)
1-2:45 (woke him and he was not all that pleased!)
plan for 7pm bedtime.
I think I will try alternating 1 and 2 nap days....do you guys think that is too confusing for lo's?!  I am just afraid to go cold turkey!  But he may also surprise me as he often does> ::) ::) ::)

I think Noah is actuallly WAY OT, so I may actually tell hubby to do asleep by 6:30 type thing, since he was awake at 6:15am, and then just see what the night brings. we may be in for two naps tommorow, since he is just not handling 5.5hrs of awake time at all. I am leaving him in his crib til 2, if possible. Right now he is playing. gosh I know he is still tired.... I am going to work this afternoon, so my dad and hen DH is going to have fun...

Sami yep, she is OT - has been since I went to hospital.  That is why we did two naps for a bit, but that caused a heap of NW.  So back to one nap, but couldn't work out why she didn't sleep - turns out to be SA, so if I work on that, we should catch up!

I am so surprised Adalyn is doing well.  Everything's back on track and I found a few molars poking up!  I knew she was teething, but she normally takes  SO long, but she actually has 2 that broke through...

Too bad her eye teeth and other molars are still just under the gums.  I am thanking my lucky stars she's tollerable.  Cranky, but her sleep hasn't been effected yet.

well Sami, how did it go last night?

Noah was asleep by 6:30pm and slept straight through til 6:15 (this 6:15 seems to be like clock work). out of crib at 7
he has sort of been a bit grumpy all morning, typical toddler screams when he doesn't get his way, I know for him this is usually a sign of overall OT, but maybe its just toddlerhood....
despite that he really wasn't yawning or anything early on, I did actually try to lay him down at 9:45am, just to see if he was tired and if he was then he could sleep 15min or something, but he woudn't have anything to do with it. cried as soon as I left and then just stayed in there for a few min of talking interspersed with yelling. so by then it was 10,
we did lunch 11:15, and straight to bed at 11:35, he did play a few min before sleep, so I'm not sure if that is a good or a bad thing, asleep by 11:45 or so,
so fingers crossed.

deb

things are going ok, thanks for asking.  i am taking a NOT thinking too much about the nap today approach...a day off.

woke at 11hrs on her own.

615 woke...in crib till 7
1130 nap....till 130 hopefully
630/645 bed
730 asleep by

im hoping we finally have a pattern of 11hrs and 2hrs nap....

last night dd fell asleep a tad earlier than the 6hrs...hehehe.  since it was too hot outside and I didn't feel like walking, we went to a strip-mall in town and walked the length of it in the a/c.  i think it killed her.  lol.  we just might become Mall-WAlkers!  LOL!

hope you get a good long nap!
