Oh no Meg, I'm so sorry to hear that PJ is sick. Does he have asthma?

We are still on one nap, despite early morning wakings (5:40 almost every day). Today DD fell asleep at 11:35. It's 1:45 now and she's still sleeping but I imagine she'll be up soon. Poor thing has gotten all of her eye teeth in the last month and started walking and now seems to be working on molars too!

Sorry PJ's sick Meg  :'(  Zander has just had a chest infection and needed an inhaler too, it's not nice.

Thanks kelly and karen!

Karen, he has never had a cough before so no, he doesn't have asthma.  I hope this isn't a trend and he doesn't end up with the diagnosis.  I can't imagine a worse fate for my little guy. :-[

The meds did nothing for him.  But on a good note, he did take a long afternoon nap.  I gave him the albuterol and some more night time meds before bed and it didn't do a thing.  He still coughed in my arms for almost an hour before he fell asleep.

Poor little guy.

I hope that this is the worst of it and by next week we will be talking about what to do with naps again.

Thanks for your kind words.

Meg,

Sorry to hear that PJ is sick.  Tyler came down with RSV last winter and had to use the inhaler 4-5 times a day too.  It is not fun.

Poor little PJ.  HEALTHY VIBES being sent to your lo!

Hi ladies! I am sorry to hear about your los being ill.  :'(  He have been fortunate enough to avoid illness. Gage has never been ill aside from the runnies from teething.

Meg, we are in a similar boat regarding the time change. This is in addition to the not napping long enough thing. Anyway, I just dont know how to undo it. What is your plan for a 2 nap day?

Update: Gage FINALLY took at 2hr 15 min nap! Thank God! My sweet little bub was turning into a tyrant! He was so overtired yesterday his eyes were red and glossy. It was soooo sad. Anyway he woke up at 6:10 and, I put him down at 9:30. It took about 10 min of babbling and then he was out! The bad part is I had no choice but to have a bedtime of 6pm! ::) Boy am I going to hate that in the morning!

Well this was my plan before illness.  right now we are on 2 naps no matter what b/c his nights have been crummy due to cough.........:

My plan was if he woke before 6:30 am he was getting 2 naps.  That means even if it was wake up at 625.  After 630 we were going for 1 nap starting at 1130 and plan on proably an early bedtime.

For first nap I will put him down at around 3 hours awake time. I am ok if this one is short.  Then second nap will be anywhere from 3.5-4 hours after morning nap wake up depending on how long he napped and how tired he acts.  then bedtime is hard, he tends to want/need 4.5 minimum hours to fall asleep.

Today's sched: wake up 6:20am
                      nap  9-940
nap 1:20-3:20 (that was a shocker! probalby b/c he was so tired from Dr appt)
bed 7:20 which was only 4 hours, but he was coughing so much I rocked him to get him to fall asleep b/c he was so wiped out.  But if he wasn't tired I probably wouldn't have let him sleep past 3 b/c I don't like a bedtime past 730.

Hope that helps.....

I am not real sure what we'll end up with once he is healthy.  I may need to mix things up once again, but that is my plan for now.  He has been sick pretty much since I made this decision, though
Oh and with PJ I won't be surprised if both naps were 45m or less.  He used to do that.  Lovely.

good luck

Meg - sorry for the sickness, we are in the middle of one too that affects sleep.  Does he drink milk?  We half the amount of whole milk and replace it with Soy.  It tends to help with the phlem.

naps are all over the place but there is no way she will take more than one.  Today I tried to get her down after a short earlier nap and she fought me for an hour and then I thought we would go for a car ride...nope, no luck.

good luck to you all

Ugh, if I give Lisi 2 naps she fights the second and wakes up at 2.30 for a couple hours  :o if I give her 1 she wakes up at 5.30 and is ready to start the day  >:(

Today I'm going to shorten her morning nap to 20 minutes, meaning I'll wake her around 40 minutes after I put her down, figuring she takes around 20 minutes to fall asleep.

How do you work out how long your LO has actually slept?

Hi Katie

When I was doing the short morning nap because we were in between doing 1 nap and 2 I timed Zander's nap from the moment I left him in his room even if he wasn't asleep!  If he hadn't slept by the end of his 'nap' time or had only slept for 10-15 minutes I did an early lunch and put him down for his long nap early, otherwise lunch and nap were normal time.  I felt it really helped to put Zander down to rest even if he didn't sleep and I always gave him the opportunity so it was up to him!  He would always have fallen asleep if I left him long enough but as we were trying to transition to one nap I didn't do this.

thanks Kelly,

in the end this morning her nap was 20 minutes, of which she slept maybe 10 max before the phone rang  ::) I got her up as she sounded jolly anyway, and it meant that lasting til lunch was  no problem. I had to wake her after a little more than 2 hours which is a miracle in itself - usually on 1 nap days she's only managed an hour and a half.

Got to a 7pm bed time and things are looking good! I never would have guessed that a 10 minute nap could make so much difference  :)

Let's hope we get a good night - I'm wrecked after last night's antics!

Katie that is so good that the 10 min took the edge off for Lisi. If we ever get back to that point I might have to try with this plan.

PJ is still sick with his cough, and to top it off I finally got my fingers in his mouth ;D and felt about 4 big teeth coming in.  Definitely one top molar on each side, and on one side a top eye tooth, and on the bottom one molar and maybe another on the other side trying to come through!  That is so awful - all at once!  holy crap!  and then yesterday he was running around the house playing 'tickle tickle' with DH and slipped on the wood floors and hurt his leg.   So we took him in to the hospital for an x-ray of the leg b/c he was limping and nothing was wrong.  Today he seems much better but he only had one early 40 min nap yesterday and nothing in the afternoon. Woke at 230am screaming so we gave him motrin and held him b/c we figured he was in pain.  We switched off and DH finally came back to bed at 445 am!  then PJ was up at 7:10!!  I rocked him to sleep for an early nap at 930 and he is still sleeping.  With this illness, the teeth, and the sore leg he has lost so much sleep I am forcing naps on him by rocking him to sleep and he has been sleeping well once he finally falls asleep.  I know I am going to pay for this.........but he needs it right now.

Ok - not much of a 2-1 transition post LOL

{{hugs}} Meg, I hope PJ is fully recovered and rested soon (you too!).

That's great Katie!  I'm always amazed by how much difference 15 minutes can make to naps and bedtime - why does it have to be so complicated?!

Ok I have not been this FRUSTRATED or DESPARATE since Gage was 4 mths old! I could just cry.

Gage had 20 min of a nap today. Yes I said 20 min! By the end of the day he was so tired he was HYPER like he was hopped up on somethhing. VERY SCARY! We tried 3 times for a nap and nothing. He did go to bed on his own, but we'll see what the night or EARLY morning brings us. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. Could someone look at today's routine and tell me if you see any hang ups.

7:00 bed the night before

7:15 wake
10:45 laid down
11:00 sleep

11:20 woke him

1:00 laid down no sleep
2:10 laid down no sleep
3:15 laid down no sleep

6:00 bed

We let him lay in the crib until he wailed which was anywhere from 20-30 min. Do you think that I should have let him sleep for at least 30 min for the first nap? Maybe he was overtired from then on. I am ready to throw in the towel and just let him sleep whenever, if ever he wants. I just dont know what to do.
