Hi, I am so pleased I have found this thread. My toddler is 2 tommorow and is so fussy, he will eat weetabix, follow on forula milk, juice, choc milkshake, purred fruit and jars of heinz mums own 2nd stage. Im at my wits end, im so frustrated, I can see him eating baby food when he is 4 the way its going. Its comforting to other people in the same situation and gives me somewhere to come and rant and get ideas :)

Hi - I am just wondering if others would be interested in a support thread if they are dealing with a really picky toddler.  I have seen some posts recently that make me think that others are in the same boat that I am.  My dd has never been a good eater, and things have been ok for a while, and now they are going down the tubes again.  I am back to dreading meal times and not knowing what/how I am going to feed her.

Is anyone else in need of support and a place to whinge/whine/pout/shout??? :-\

hi!
this thread is great. my lo is super picky and eats finger foods, but not until he is full... he just wants his milk then. i am really trying to cut down on his milk intake but am going to have to gradually do it. he loves rice cereal (he likes almost anything plain and lacking in flavor) and giving it to him 3x a day is the only way that he is full enough to sleep through the night. does anyone have any suggestions for what else i can spoonfeed my lo that is high in calories, bland an heavy enough to make him sleep at night? any thoughts would be so wonderful.
xoxo.

Avacado smushed up??  My LO's never liked it but I've heard lots of moms who had great success with it... high in fat and calories too.  Oatmeal should have more protein than rice cereal too, so sticks with him longer, and has more fiber too.  Oh how I wish my kid would still let me spoon feed her...  ::)

This is my kinda place, first visit and I found people who totally know what Im going thru! Have a beautiful son who will not eat real food (loves the stuff you make up with hot water - great how nutritious that must be!) Will eat bread and butter, toast, dry crackers (thought they were just for morning sickness) and anything sweet - rice pudding always goes down a treat but how can he survive on that. I made pasta tonight with a plain cheesy sauce and he looked like he may be interested (nearly the same colour as rice pudding) but it went in his mouth for only a fraction of a second before he threw it over the side of the high chair!!! caved in and gave him rice pud and a yoghurt - such a bad mum!!! :(

Welcome to the boards, Nugget!!  How old is your son?

My mantra is "There are millions of picky eaters out there who grew up fine."

Also I don't know if you've read this or not but the book "Just Two More Bites" has been a big help for us here!

My little man is 16months, today he had toast for breakfast, crackers and cheese (progress) for lunch and a fruit puree thingy, and for tea I resorted to one of his packet things, just so that he would eat something. He doesnt even hesitate when I put that in front of him, just scoops it in like someone might steal it!

You might want to check out that book if you have a chance!  And don't feel guilty about yogurt, that is one of our "main courses" LOL!  ;D  Good protein, good calcium, etc!  Do you have a baby brand there?  Like the ticker, by the way!  :)

Definitely keeping my eyes open for a copy of it! Have just been shopping (hooray for payday!) so bought lots of different stuff to make our own cheese straws and guacamole - its always nice to have a freezer full of things he can refuse! He was up all night :( think he had a tummy ache but dont know how he got one. Seems happier today but totally uninterested in weetabix again have got rice crispies to try as an alternative (although with self feeding that could be messy  ;D)

Thanks for the ticker comment - saw everyone elses and was so jealous I just had to have one - I am such a child!!!

A ticker is a must-have on this site!  :)

Bethany also switches from foods that she ALWAYS eats (like the weetabix, although I have to confess I have no idea what that is! ;D) and then we're back to the guessing game again...I agree having a freezer full of options is nice rather than trying and putting in the effort with fresh stuff and having it end up on the floor.  :D

weetabix is just a whole wheat cereal - pretty boring so I can see why he could get fed up!  ;D have been trying to sneak things in his food for the last couple of days - real strawberries in his strawberry yoghurt, bananas hidden in chocolate - unfortunately his inbuilt radar system could sense them and they were filtered straight back out (all the chocolate went though - funnily enough!) when I gave him crackers and cheese he even licked it to check I hadnt contaminated it with something else - I think he works for the food police! ;D

Totally, last night we covered carrots in honey - so he licked it off! My SIL tried to hide a tiny piece in his yoghurt but his filtering system soon disposed of that! Tonight he has eaten really well so hopefully he will sleep a little better! We decided to keep a food diary to see how much he really eats (as opposed to how little I believe he does). Im actually feeling a bit better now, and trying to just relax and keep giving him lots of options. With crackers always an option!!!

Yes I'm embarassed to admit how many meals of mac and cheese we've had here.   :-[  I'd love to get more variety but she refuses new stuff and I get impatient offering it over and over...I just have to work on that a bit myself!  :)

Me too Kathleen, it's VERY easy to get in the mac & cheese, chicken nuggets rut!   ;)  That's why I love these boards, yall get me motivated to try new things with them!   ;D
