The length of this thread was one of the things that reassured me I had not lost the plot when I first found it! But yes, maybe time to start afresh  :)

Rinajack - I'm due on the 11th Sept, a couple of days after you. Am so flippin exhausted right now though, I'm just hoping I get one or two full nights sleep in between now and then  :P

OliverRowland - our Oliver is pleasant as pie during the day, even if OT. The only sign I get (apart from alllll those NW/EWs) is that he gets hyper and tends to bump into things a lot more. He's really even-tempered these days, even though I'd probably would have classed him as a touchy baby. Not helpful when you're trying to judge sleep times!

Thanks Layla for the advice this morning.  Unfortunately, DS wouldn't let me try it!  By 10:45 this morning he was getting really cranky and seemed tired so I thought I'd put him in his room and even if he didn't sleep he could use some quiet time.  Well, he fell asleep so I gave him about 20 minutes and then put him down at 1:50 for his pm nap and he's still sleeping now (3:20).  I think he's going through a tired phase as yesterday afternoon he slept 2h and that is unusual for him.

Oh well, we'll try again another day!

Deb, my DS sounds  just like yours when he is OT, frustrates easily, clumsy (falls or walks into things), and cranky.

Not posted for a while things have been going well on 30 am nap & all she will do is 1hr15 pm nap but I guess I can live with that 1hr 30 would of been nice  ;)

We went away for a long weekend last weekend OMG what a nightmare both Lily and I came home a damn sight more tired than if we had stayed at home and not though having so much fun that it wore us out as it rained all weekend.  It started so badly the only way it could go was down and it did.  My plan was she would take her afternoon nap in the car on the way, so she had her 30min am nap then would not fall asleep in car for pm nap.  I warned everyone she was not going to be pretty as a result and boy was I right.  For Lily being OT can leed to NW & EW but her temper when OT is shocking, full on tantrums, frustration, clingy, whiny, aggressive the lot  >:( Anyway she was in bed very early when we arrived but took maybe 30/40mins to settle (not bad for new place and very tired) woke couple of times early evening but then slept through till 6am.  Took 30min am nap on Saturday and 1hr15 pm nap but then wouldn't settle at bedtime took about 1hr then slept through till 5.30 sunday morning.  So sunday she decides would be a good day to just have 1nap  ??? and then took just 1hr 15min OT nap.  Was in bed 4hrs later but took nearly 2hrs to get to sleep.  She must of been knackered as she actually slept till 6am Monday.  She took her morning nap but it took 30mins to settle so we decided to cut our losses and head home before pm nap and hope she would sleep in car.  At this point I didn't care if she didn't sleep as she was so damn OT another day was not going to make matters much worse but she fell asleep in the car and slept for nearly 2hrs  ;D.  We still got lots of NW Monday night and she wanted up at 5am Tuesday morning, I just wasn't having that so went and laid down on her floor under a blanket and she went back to sleep, she woke again at 5.40 but again went back of till 6.30, which was good enough for me. Good naps and her mood started to improve, last night she was very unsettled going to sleep but once asleep soundly was out till 6.30 this morning and is pretty much back to her usual lovely self, tomorrow should be better still  ;D  Something that I think could take a little longer to sort out is as a result of being somewhere new and with some of our friends who she hasn't spent much time with and her general clingy OTness we've had SA rear its ugly head, oh the joys  ::)

Something I could do with some advice on is her 1nap days, unlike at first she would take good non OT naps of 1.45-2.5hrs, now it seems when she throws in a 1nap day (other than one at weekend I really wasn't expecting much from that) they are never very long, 1.5hrs usually the max which leave her tired the next day and its then very easy to slip into OT.  So taking a usual wake up of 6.30am what time should I put her down for nap & bedtime on 1nap days?

After thinking about it, I really don't think Oliver is OT.  He was a tad cranky on Sunday (3rd day of 1 nappers) but we did 2 naps yesterday...which he was not pleased about having been woken up!  And today back to 1 nap and happy as a clam.  He only gets upset with me when I change him (which is a super challenge these days  :P :P :P :P :P) or dress him...ie he does NOT want to stay still for a second.  He is also just starting to walk so this new found skill is VERY exciting to him!  He loves to practice.  :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Not only did he take a pm nap, it was almost 2h, and then he cried a lot at bedtime like he does when he is OT (which he couldn't possibly be)...I hope all this sleep doesn't mean he's getting sick!  :-\

New thread how exciting.

We had our last 2 nap day on 14 july, as we were away, bfore this he had not had one for almost a month.
So well see.

Generally it is like this.
Wake about 6 or 6.30 or 7
nap 11 or 11.30 , 12 or 12.30 for 1.25-1.30 minutes , sometiems though only an hour.
and then bed anywhere between 7.15 or 8. Yesterday it was 8.25.

All over the place ::)

I really need some help over here  :(

The last two days we've had EW (5:30 yesterday, 4:50 today) so I've been trying to get him to take two naps. Yesterday he hadn't slept after 1.5hrs in his cot for his pm nap, but I thought it was because his grandpa let him have too long in the morning. So after super EW today, I put him down at 9:40am and he slept from 9:50-10:10 (timed from when he went quiet, so probably nearer 15 mins sleep). Put him back down for his pm nap at 1pm, it's now nearly 2pm and he's still singing to himself up there.

The 20min nap/3hr A time is what worked perfectly for us before, and I did a couple of days of that at the weekend that seemed to really help. If this isn't an option any more then what on earth am I going to do with him on days when he wakes so early??

Actually, it sounds as though he *might* have gone to sleep now. But the problem remains - if he needs 4 hours A time after a 20 min nap then two nap days are just not viable....

AAAARGH!

MommaHolmes,
hmmm, I am not sure ??? I hate early wakings too. is it possible he is already OT by 1pm?
so if he wakes at 5
maybe 9:30-9:50,
nap 12:30
sorry, I am just not sure...

well limiting Noahs naps yesterday was a mistake!
so yesterday was
wake 5:45
nap 9:55-10:05
nap 12---but fell asleep at 12:30 and I woke him at 2:15
so he had about 2hrs total
bed and asleep within minutes 6:50pm
woke at 12:40am and finally back to sleep at 2:10aam

wo with the NW, we had a 7:15am wake
nap 12:05-2:15 or so, woke on his own
bed at 7pm----but he has not gone straight to sleep, so I am worried he is already OT and we are in for another rough night.

I think we're on the switch from 2 to 1 naps.  My dd is 13 months and usually has 2 naps of about 1 1/2 to 2 hours a day but the last week or so the am nap has started to shorten first to 1 hour then sometimes 45 mins.  I have been working at giving her more activity time and staying up until 10 am which has been going well the last 3 or 4 days.  She was still having her same pm nap but the start time was getting later and end time getting later closer to 4:30 which I didn't like but I have real issues with waking her up from naps.  I don't let her sleep more than 2 hours but that hasn't happened for at least 6 months and I don't let her sleep past 4:30 ever.

 :o Today was the turning point I think.  She had her am nap from 10:00 to 11:30 which was fine but then this afternoon I went to put her down at 2:30 as usual and it was a no go.  We tried until 3:30 and then I cut my losses.  I was doing the no eye contact put down which usually works but not today.  She's also started throwing her bunny and the soother overboard and then screaming which was funny at first but has lost it's appeal.  So tonight she was alright but I decided to put her to bed at around 6:45 and I think she's asleep I haven't heard a peep for 20 mins.  When naps get messed up it usually means a very unhappy night wake up around 11 or midnight so let's hope not.  I'm new to the site, group, thread and was wondering if you experienced mothers out there think this might be the start of the one nap day?  thanksjavascript:void(0);

slgregory,
keep the am nap short, 45min should be good,
so I am not sure when she is waking for the day,

but maybe
nap 9:45-10:30
1:30/2--3:30
bed 7

if you would like to post normal wake up and bedtime, we can help a bit more!

Thanks Deb, I've not had a huge amount of success getting him to go to sleep before 3 hrs A time between naps but am persisting with putting him down a bit earlier just in case. He slept til 3:30pm in the end yesterday, was in bed by 7 and asleep by 7:30 but still woke at 5:30  :( Fortunately no extended NW tho, so at least I feel a bit better rested.

Managed to get him to go down for am nap by 10am so am gonna give him 20 mins, then back to bed by 1pm and fingers crossed. I think some of the resistance to the pm nap yesterday may have been because I gave up and got him up when he didn't sleep the day before. My LO really needs consistency on that sort of thing else he's brilliant at keeping himself awake just in case I change my mind!

Seems I was right - only took him 35 mins to go to sleep for the pm nap today so 3hr15 A time between naps.

OH No.  She woke up way too early this morning,  5:45 am.  She usually gets up around 6:30 ,sometimes if we're lucky closer to 7, and is into bed at night at 7:30pm.  She does great on 11 hours sleep which is what she ended up with last night.  I'll try an earlier nap this morning but waking her up is going to kill me.  It's all about experimenting isn't it.
