After a few mins of crying, I rubbed her head while she was lying down.  Didn't stay lying down the 1st time, but the 2nd time she went to sleep.  Desperate times and all...

Hopefully she'll sleep more than 5 mins.

Oh no shame about the 5 mins, if L falls asleep for a few mins now it really buggers up her nap too  ::) Did she get off in the end? I think I would have got her up for another 30 mins. Great night though, she does seem to do well on the one nap.

New Mum, I am definitely going to try the chocolate tip when we need to keep L awake next time. Her treats are always things from the Organix range but she does love chocolate on the rare occassion she has had it, I don't know if it makes her hyper though  :)

Woohoo, well done Ollie for finally giving your mum a break, shame about little sis though!

Something strange is going on in our house! L has taken naps between 1½ hours and 2hrs20 mins for the last 3 days  :o It has to be a tooth as she refused most of her dinner and bedtime milk and was crying to go to bed after not even 4 hours A time. Don't worry I am not going to kid myself that I suddenly have a superstar napper, we are sticking with the nap rebels  ;)

Katt- that's great about L.  Could you send some sleep vibes this way please?

Laura- if you call reasonable sleep 35 mins, then she had reasonable sleep.

Aiming for 4:30pm bedtime again, hopefully asleep by 5pm.

I think I'll keep praying to St.  Jude.

Wat to go Ollie, how was his temperament, after was it 5 days of no naps? Lily's was chronic after just 2 days, admittedly she had been poorly as well, but I can't imagine how revolting she would be after that many days with no naps  :o  Do you think he had got out of the habit of going down for a nap? Lily has been hard to settle for last 2 days naps, its taken 40mins and 30mins today, normally its 10mins tops.

Leslie if theres one thing you can say about M naps is that she is consistant 5+35 = 40  ::)  Hope you have another good night, generally its the nights that improve before the naps do so I'm sure your on the right path :)

The thing to use if chocolate doesn't hype out your LO like it does Lily is blue Smarties.  I know quite a few mums who have used these to good effect  ;)

He has been more hyper and difficult this afternoon than all the rest of this week!
And it's now 8:30pm and he's still not asleep, despite having been in bed since 7pm  >:(
Will see how his night goes but am tempted by the idea of cutting the nap altogether...

Was Ollie sleeping through the night, and not waking early on the days he didn't nap?  How long were his naps prior to the strike?

M is consistent, Nicola- a consistently BAD sleeper!

She did go off tonight very quickly, about 4:42pm.  Hoping for a good night (I really need one!)

BTW, I WOKE her from the nap in the stroller, and she was SO asleep I was changing her diaper trying to wake her up.  I assumed I should not let her sleep before nap time of 11:30am, right?

This seems like it should be easier.

Asleep at 4:42pm, but chatting about 4:21am.  The chatter went on til 4:55am, when it turned into crying.  I gave it a few, but then went in and she was lying down (yay), replaced paci and left.  Now she was really crying, and standing.  Laid her back down, rubbed her head a little and stood by her crib.  She remained lying down for about 10 mins, but then stood.  Again, lay her back down, rubbed her head a little and stood by her crib.  The next time she stood, I laid her down and left.  She got mad, which lasted some time, but then her cries were off and on.  I left her, and she eventually went b2s about 5:48am and slept til 6:19am.  Now at least we can make it til 11:30am for her nap.

Should I leave her when she cries for at least a few mins to see if it tapers off?  It seems like it just gets worse the more I go in there.  It's hard for me to tell how long to leave her alone.

How's everybody else today?

Hi Leslie, yes go in and reassure her and leave - WIWO, once she knows you aren't going to stay in her room she will settle down quicker. Her cry is probably anger for a minute and then turns into a mantra cry, L does this, I know she isn't distressed if she is I go in and reassure her. M's total sleep last night was fantastic  ;D

Agreed - I just go in, shhh and PD if necessary and walk straight back out.

Re: naps in pushchair - ideally she shouldn't nap before 11:30, but I think I probably would have left her be if she had already fallen asleep, just cos of the risk that she might refuse her nap even with a few minutes sleep (Ollie was always like that).

We had an OK, but short, night. Ollie finally went off at 8:45 and woke at 6:30 (one NW) - on no nap days he has been sleeping 6:30pm - 6:30/7am so he had at least an hour LESS sleep overall with a nap yesterday  :-\ We have had a few NW when he wasn't napping but he went straight back to sleep after PD for all of them.

Katt- L got so big, she's a little girl now  ;)  That's how M is with WI/PD/WO- she gets angry for some time.

Laura- no advice here.  But at least O went b2s with PD quickly.

I don't think the 1 nap is working.  I know it's only day 5, but today M started yawning at 10:19am, 4 hours after the last waking.  By the time I was singing her lullaby, she was almost fast asleep.

UPDATE- she slept 30 mins  :'(  I managed to get her b2s, but I don't think for long, maybe 10 mins if I'm lucky.

What am I going to do?  This is ridiculous.

Do I have any other options?  W2S for the nap?  Put her down with A times, not clock times?  Offer 2 naps on days she's up before 6am?  I thought by now she'd be waking later, and though her nights are better, the EWs continue, which make it difficult to get to the naptime.

I think the EW have persisted because she ALWAYS goes to bed really early, even when on 2 naps. She is usually doing at least 12 hours a night and I don't think you can expect any more than that. The problem is that we haven't been able to hit on a routine that works for her so you've not been able to shuffle her day forwards to a sensible hour  :(

It's your call Leslie - you are the best judge of what works for your little girl. If you think she needs 2 naps (or 2 naps on some days) then that is what you should do. I still think you need to give it a couple more days on this schedule as I don't think ANY of the other options (and we have tried them ALL!) have yielded any better results.

My best advice to you is to re-read the entirety of this thread, remind yourself of the journey you've taken over the past couple of months and of the reasons for each change of strategy. Nothing is going to work until you fix on a strategy that you can stick to for more than a few days - I think M probably has change fatigue!!

I hope she had more than 10 mins longer for her nap today  :-*

P.S. As Ol had such a crap night with having a nap yesterday, I didn't even bother offering one today as he seemed fine at lunchtime. In bed by 5:45 and asleep by 6pm so looking OK so far.

I think if you are going to give her two naps you should make that first one super short like 10 or 15 mins because you don't want her rejecting her second nap. Leorah has fallen asleep in her pushchair while out before and even 5 mins has cocked up the proper nap  ::)
