Well, Maren slept 12 hrs (7:30 to 7:30) so I'll maybe purposely give her no nap today and start wind-down just before 7... see how that goes.  Napping doesn't seem to be helping either of us right now!  DH reminded me that next week we'll be in Disneyland anyways, any schedule that I manage to encourage will be shot.  I'm not that flexible of a person (surprised? ::) ;D ) so 'letting go' isn't always easy for me, but he's absolutely right.  So we'll just try rolling with it, see if we can get 12 hr nights with no nap and go from there.

Stacy, yes good night but no nap yet--its 1:30---hopefully asleep soon and I'll still do 1hr or so..

this is so annoying! why can't I time things right? just cant win--hes not tired early enough in the day---but I know he'll be super grumpy if he only gets 45minutes...
I hate the big boy bed at this point...

marensmama--that sounds like a really good plan! then she can doze only if needed while at disneyland..

Well, 45 min nap yesterday (since we are all reporting lol).  Asleep not til about 9pm, but shock of all shocks, my kids woke me up with Zara asking for a drink at 7:45am!!!!!! There were a few night feeds for hugh in there, and had to find Zara's dummy for her at 6 something, but it was still a great suprise!

well I had a hard time waking Noah --he was in a very deep sleep --so probably finally awake at 3 (I started at 2:50)

should have been earlier I guess--since it is 8:30 and I don't think he is asleep yet...

Just a quick Q asking opinions.....

If your 2 yr old (and not long 2 at that) did not seem tired even at 7 hrs awake, would you skip nap?

I currently keep on sitting with Zara for her naps, she is very very rarely asleep before 7 hours (though thankfully she is keeping them mostly under an hour all on her own).  But from a 7/7:30 wakeup, she usually doesn't fall asleep til 2ish and then I usuually feel like I am doing really well to have her asleep by 9pm...on a rare occasion, 8:30.

I am in two minds about what would be best here, and obviously if we started dropping the nap, if she showed tired signs, I would have her nap, I guess I just can' make up my own mind....

Rina--I would keep trying for the nap and let nights be shorter, but that just me.  I say that only b/c my DS will not show sleepy signs for a nap some days, but we try anyway.   After several days have gone by with no naps his behavior is wicked wild, so it seem worth keeping.  It also seems like when he skips a couple of naps, he forgets that he's supposed to fall asleep during nap time, lol and then when he is tired and really needs one he won't fall asleep--like we need to have one every day or they're going to stop altogether.

The routine you mention is actually a lot like what we're doing right now. DS sleeps a hair longer in the morning and goes down for nap just a bit earlier (but often takes time to actually get to sleep).

Thanks Bethany.  I realised after I posted that we have a trip coming up (meaning going out for dinner alot) so she will need to nap to keep up with us on that holiday....so I wont change anything for now.  Hard when you know that the time they START napping is the time you need them to get up in order to go to bed at a reasonable hour!

Rina, that seems to be us right now too.
at least 6.5hrs of A time but definately pushing 7, I would also like to keep the nap for a few months and accept slightly shorter nights....but 10 is as short as I want them
allows for a little extra time outside in the evening...

yeserdays nap was a bit late--nap 2:10-3--not alseep til 8:45 and woke this morning at 6:45---so I am still trying to figure out whats best in terms of nap timing and length
think I should have woken him a bit earlier yesterday.

I am hopeing he will nap closer to 1 today and he'll be up by 2:15/2:30----seems 2:30 is our best cut-off time...

 ::) ::) the analyzing continues...

Maren didn't nap yesterday.  In fact, I didn't even try.  We played out in the yard while Hayden napped so we didn't make too much noise and it went well.  Started wind-down just before 7, hoping for a 7:30 asleep time, but she played in her window seat until shortly after 8 pm.  Woke up at 6:30 today (so I guess slightly better than 6:08 as was her previous time).  I'm not sure if I'm going to try for a nap today... her mood is pretty good, she woke up happy... we'll see how it goes.  Maybe it's just training for Disneyland! (9 more sleeps, BTW!)  How much sleep should she be getting?

Oh, and when we were playing together, she wanted to be the mommy and kept putting me down for a nap, explaining that I was tired and needed to sleep ::) :P ;D  I guess she's heard that more than a few times!

Yay, Kaleb!  (And Mommy!!:) )

So, the plan today was to stick with no-naps and then have her in bed by 12 hrs from wake-up.  Things were going well, until my well-meaning DH snuggled with her on the couch with a blanket (in the theatre room - ie dark) and put on a movie.  ::) Guess who fell asleep at 3:30 for 45 minutes?  I suggested we wake her up sooner, but he said he tried at the 20 minute mark and she wouldn't wake at all...  So, I guess we'll try bedtime at 7 and hope we didn't wreck the night.

:)

Well I let DS sleep for 2 hours and 10 min!  I know, but he seemed out of sorts today, ya know?  Well, we have just come in from outside at 8:15pm and he is eating a bran muffin and a yogurt watching Max and Ruby.  I will put him in bed at 8:40 and am hoping he is asleep by 9/9:15.  There is no point now to put him in earlier when I now know he needs 6 hours wake time, might as well let him chill with some tv and muffin!
