Stacy, there's nothing sick about not moving Kaleb to a BBB!  I would've kept Maren in hers for longer, but she got sick in her crib and developed a fear of it.  Once she got over that fear (but we'd already got the BGB, DH was finishing it in the garage) she said she didn't want the bed and I told her to let me know when she was ready for it.  Two weeks later, she out of the blue tells me that she's ready for the BGB now.  We moved it in and she never really got out of it (until the window seat parties).  TBH, if I could do it all again, I'd wait for her to fully transition to no naps before getting rid of the crib.

Maren's at daycare today, and she's due for a nap (didn't have one yesterday or day before, could have used one) so my DCPs smugness will continue ::) ;D

Gotta go clean my house while I have the chance... miss H is currently asleep for her morning nap!

Yesterday proved my theory wrong as it was Thursday & he did nap BUT the rubbish trucks came late (5.30am)  & woke him  & he watched them (normal) & never went back to sleep (abnormal) so he was up from 5.30 & it was dh's Birthday so it meant he was able to be happy & enjoy Grandparents & dinner etc...Today we had a wet bed (no night nappies) for the first time in ages... guessing from yesterday so I've been up since 5am (when he woke) but fortunately he went back to sleep until almost 7am... bet today neither boy naps & I SOOO need the Friday nap, I've had 3 really late nights this week (too many Birthdays around here at this time of year)

Stacy - admit it you would have Kaleb in a crib until he was 21 if you could ;)

Well no nap, today & no upset children either... ok Mr almost 3 did spend about an hour playing on the computer... he is quite the IT boy, working his way through the Duplo site, Bob site  & the Caillou train track game, he then had a super long bath & dh was home a bit early so all good & he was asleep at 6.45am, 12 hours & 10mins after he woke.

He will have heaps of chance for a nap tomorrow as we are going 1 3/4hours each way for us  to meet my Sis (who lives 3 1/4 hours away) to celebrate 7 Birthdays... her dh & ds & my dh & ds2, plus ds2's 2 God parents & my best friend, all who have Birthdays between the 21st & 31st (we have 3 other close family  & friends with them in that period too - thus earlier in the week).... we seem to have a "connection" with gemini's with 5 more Birthdays June 1-11 LOL ) We are going on a steam train in the Blue Mountains (West of Sydney) which will be fun as the Boys (my 2 & Nephew) LOVE trains.

HAVE A LONG NIGHT MR KALEB.

thanks..

rough night for us all though...

Noah is VERY tired...he was awake and talking at like 10:30, 1, 4:30---for at least an hour, then woke when Cohen was crying at 7

so I'm not sure, but maybe 8-9hrs of sleep...

think he'll probably go for a early nap at 12,

Deb, I know this nap business is tough but keep in mind, your body is going through major changes, you will be tired, sleep-deprived, trying to figure out how to be a family of 4 instead of a family of 3, and getting to know this new little baby...  Noah's world as he knows it has been turned upside down... he may go through a new bout of SA, might wake up at several of Cohen's NWs, so his sleep will be off and you will probably not be able to figure any of it out.  Don't frustrate yourself by trying.  If he seems tired, put him down at a set nap time every day (he's too old for A time to matter as long as it's not too late in the day when he naps).  If he naps, great, if he doesn't, well that's OK too, there's a lot going on, he'd hate to miss it, I'm sure.  You will all be fine and better for it in the long run!

:)

Hey there

I came on BW a lot when DS was tiny as had loads of problems with naps (getting past that first 45 min sleep cycle)...but he's always been brilliant at night.  He's 18 months tomorrow and about 4 days ago for the first time ever had huge probs settling to go to sleep.  Basically, he didn't seem tired enough.

He's been getting regular 2 hour naps at nursery (5 days a week), and though not as reliable, usually has the same at home at weekends.  At nursery, he goes down around 1pm which they've started to bring earlier to around 12.30pm to fit in with the Little Learners room he's moving up to (from Baby Care), which has proved no prob for them...as he is completely happy to fit in with the routine that all the other LOs are doing.  At home it's a little different, we watch his cues, he probably doesn't get as worn out with us, and he's usually down by 2pm latest.

Today (ie Saturday, at home) he wouldn't go down for a nap at all and seemed quite lively and happy, only went to bed a little earlier than usual, around 7pm (usually 7.30pm).  Still  had trouble settling but this was 3rd night of trying WI/WO and it worked quite quickly.

So, actually my question is just that I'm wondering what is the common age at which LOs start to need no nap?  I think he'll still be happy to nap at nursery, maybe for a shorter time but may be likely to need none at the weekends.

It may seem mad to be asking this with DS at 18 months but he has always dropped his naps v. v. early (ie at a young age) compared with the 'norm'.  Eg, he was down to 1 nap by 11 months.

Thanks in advance for any comments/tips.

I think it's uncommon to drop the nap before 2.5 years, but there are, of course, excpetions.  Many of us on this thread with younger LOs are finding that with a little less night sleep we can get LO to nap at least some of the time.  So, for my LO, his total sleep reuqirement has dropped and I've had to find the right balance between his day and night sleep so that he will nap as, despite being nearly 2.5, without a nap, he's not so fun to be around.  :(

If he seems to do well napping at nursery and not at home I wouldn't sweat it.  Personally, I think I'd try to stick with the times that they use at nursery as his body will be used to sleeping at that time and more likely to go along with it.

Well, Maren slept for 3.5 hours today for nap. :o :o :o  I let her go as long as she needed to because we're having a big BBQ tonight and she won't go to bed that close to her normal time anyways.  She'll wear herself out with her cousins that are here.  The trouble will not be going to bed, it will be saying goodbye when she's had so much fun! ;D

wow-you are brave--3.5hrs!!

Noah wouldn't nap early so nap was 12:50-2:30 when I woke him..
of course tired come 5pm--actually went to his bed a few times and layed down and asked for the door to be closed...
I wish I had the ability to let him nap to make up but it just doesn't work---ends up sleeping less next night and stays OT.

so he was in bed for 7:30 and asleep at 8, fingers crossed.

I have rearranged my room a bit, hopeing Cohen's crying won't wake him as much...but if it does at least he is asleep a little earlier for the evening.

Stacy, for sure we'll get together this summer...maybe June
