Nancy, I have to keep myself in check everyday about what REALLY matters and what doesn't.

Hayley, forgot to mention before, Nathan's first two teeth came through crooked and because they were the only one's in there I really noticed it, now I don't.  Also, I've heard that just because their baby teeth are crooked doesn't mean that their adult teeth necessarily will be.  As far as nightwear - D's wearing a singlet, lightweight footed jammies and I put a lightweight blanket over her legs.

Bec, I'm still doing 4 day feeds and she gets one (unnecessary  ) night feed.  With Nathan I dropped him to 3 at 10mths.

We're doing yoghurt - here we're advised to start on yoghurt and cheese from 8-9mths and whole milk for adding to cooking.  I don't buy baby yoghurt though, just a natural unsweetened acidophilus high fat one.

Vege patties - ok what I do for Nathan is grate carrot, courgette (zucchini), onion, potato  into a bowl, squeeze well add some flour and an egg - but in D's case I just took the mixture out before adding the egg and put a little olive oil in the mixture to make it bind, then lightly fried.   Doesn't sound too tasty, but it was one posted on here a while back from Annabel Karmel (or something like that) and it was a hit for my at-the-time non-vege boy.

Rightl, better go, Nathan's just fallen asleep and it after 4pm, D's not settlign for a catnap even though she only did 45mins earlier on and has been awake since 1.30pm.  Oh boy, not looking forward to later.  I jsut gave her a BF to seee if it would settle her, but no such luck.

Ciao.

nancy - we posted at the same time!  NO IT IS NOT YOU!!  I get completly bent out of shape all the time and used to be the most LAID back person EVER.  My DH says he loves it an dhates it.  He thinks that I use to be too laid back but now he calls Sophies schedule et al. the 'regime'.  Well they can;t have it all can they!  I think that as long as you can take a step back after the fact is huge!!

Don't worry about it, oh and I meant to tell you that a lady on the plane said to me about Sophie "Oh my, she doesn;t miss a meal does she!"  I told her that "no, I'm actually putting steroids in her milk".  I guess that was the not so laid back part of me and it Had been a long day already!

Bec, LMAO at sore balls - I actually laughed out loud.  Nathan doesn't wear undies either mostly, I just can't be bothered most days.  LOL.  Yesterday we were at the mall and bumped into a little girlfriend of his, she pulled down her pants to show her undies (she's just been toilet trained) and I was "oh no, I hope Nathan doesn't do that back, he's going commando!".

OK, back to dinner...

hi girls,
I can't get caught up!!  Too much going on.

Anyways....caught the gist of boobie talk...so sad  :(   I used to be so proud of my perky boobs that saluted the sun but now they salute the sidewalk :(

So I've decided to go cold turkey with Jackson so now he is drinking 100% out of his nuby bottle for all feedings.  He protested a bit this am but overall going pretty good.  Tomorrow will be day 2 so should be better.  He also started drinking juice and water out of a straw.  It's rather disgusting the amount of backwash in his cup after but aleast he's figured out how to drink out of a straw....just a mental note not to share a drink with him!!!

I love all the pics girls!!  These babes are getting so big!  :(

Hee hee hee hee!  My time on the computer is up let's see if I get repremanded!
Bec-Still doing 4 bf here no idea when to change
Jo-Ben doesn't seem to like brocolli or green beans.  I usually mix some apples or pears with them and he will have about 5 bites but lately I have been skipping them all together because I think they might hurt his tummy.  He likes sweet potato and all fruit and really liked a pureed soup I made the other night.  I usually save fruit for last and try to give veggies for lunch.  FOr a while all he wanted was yogurt so I stopped giving that to him all together.  I think we went through two 3 day food strikes where he only ate a few bites at each sitting, I think it was maybe teeth.  ENOUGH ALL ready , sorry to give you a full case history.
Judy-Thinking about you w/o sleep and hoping it will come soon.
Holly-Ben eats Yo BABY yogurt
Kate-No problem about writing about digestion I am loving it and gaining lots of insight for my LO
Hannah-Oh my I had headlights before I was pregnant then they got bigger and now they are getting smaller but the center target isn't shrinking.  I read that the reason why the central area gets big is so the LO can locate them.  What was HE thinking?  Ben isn't blind...I am hoping they will shrink soon considering DH said I was really stacked today when I walked in the room.
Nancy-Lots of emotions here but I am very cookoobara.  Lots of other moms I have talked to are cookoo too so I guess we get that extra added bonus when we join the moms club.
Ankie-sorry no suggestions on the nap, I will keep thinking
Richelle-so funny about the steroids comment.
TMI get ready.  WHen your LO'S have a cold and they wake up in the morning with snotty noses that are dried how do you get it off.  I have been using a warm wet wash cloth any other ideas?

Thanks for all the encouraging words concerning the emotional breakdowns. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one. DH has been so sweet and patient with me through the whole thing...pregnancy, labor & delivery, and post-partum. But I swear sometimes he looks at me like, "who are you and where has my wife gone?" I too used to be so laid back, but now I get all bent out of shape over the weirdest things. I guess just another sacrifice to make for our precious LOs. I'm glad to know I'm not in it alone. I know it's been said before, but you girls are the best!

Off to bed now. G'night.

LOL Everyone, one thing I have never been called is laid back!!  So not much difference there for me

Nikki - I can't wait to try those vege patties.  BTW, since you brought it up  :D    are you a big sports buff??  What sports do you enjoy??  I love a good Aust v NZ match in just about anything so I'm always keen for some jibing!

Also, enjoying all the talk of balls and testicles - just a taste of what the coming years will bring

Bec - not even thinking about dropping to 3 feeds - we are still doing 4 day feeds and 1 or 2 night feeds    Think I'll work on those night feeds first

I think that one of the problems we are having with food is I am being TOO adventurous.  Today for lunch I had had enough of offering all my lovely homecooked food to have him growl at it so I popped open a couple of jars ..... which he scoffed!  Saying something about my cooking already.   :?   I didn't think that what I was offering was too exotic given what I know a lot of you are serving up (I'm talking chicken or veal casserole, a mild vege korma, mediterrainian veges and chicken) but maybe he is just not ready for that sort of stuff yet.  I'm going to cook up a great big batch of sweet potatos to mix through everything for a bit because he really enjoyed that for a while (I had to stop with it though because he started to turn orange!)  Oh well, back to the basics and we'll see how that goes.

Oh, speaking of boobs - we were talking about this in one of the chats - I think you called it the pencil test??  Anyway, pre-baby, I laughed in the face of the pencil test ha ha ha.  But now - oh, I'm too sad to go there!!

Ok, have a great day/night everyone

All this talk about boobs reminds me of something DH said the other week.  I don't know whether to take this as a compliment or not   :?
He said "Your nipples have gotten bigger since you stopped bf!" :?  :x  :D  As you can see, I was not sure how to take that one.

We are still doing 4 milk feeds but I was told by a nurse that around 9mths they sometimes start to want only 3.  James being James I think this is going to happen.

Jo, I often use couscous as an ingredient as it is sweet.  I mix it with creamed corn and this goes down very well.  (If your looking for something besides sweet potato)

In regards to separation anxiety, can it only happen at certain times?  James goes down usually with no fuss or help for naps, but going down to bed he needs help.  do you think they know theywon't be seeing you for a while? :? Oh well, another thing to try and work out.

Hope everyone has a lovely day

Hi,

Well all you Aussie/Kiwi mom's seem to have such great recipes/ideas for your lo's food.  Do you have a certain book you are all using?  I am stumped with Sophie, she is really losing interest nd I know it is because she is bored with the infant cereal and purees.  I love the veggie patties idea, maybe I will try it.

I did eggy bread the other morning but I need to tap into some unknown source of patience I have yet to discover with the whole finger foods thing *sigh* .  Is anyone else's LO picking up and feeding themselves on a regular basis?  Like i said, she loves to put everything on the floor or her head

Nancy-I agree with everyone else on the emotions.  I tend to let mine build for a while though then they come pouring out in a torrent

Holly-hope your night went okay?  how's the bum?  totally cute pics btw, i can see why you went over your budget :D Maybe I'll start yoghurt too.  I'm trying to think of proteins I can give without full teeth formed yet (still coming through).  Yoghurt, egg yolk(trying tomorrow), tofu, jarred chicken (yuck but he ate it)

LOL at testicles and balls.  sheesh, did i have to have a boy :? LOL

Oh yes, 5 feeds here still and last night a middle of the nighter.

Macaire-warm wet washcloth here too.  When I was at the ped yesterday she also gave me some saline drops for his nose.  if it's not runny it's dry so I use those before nap and stuff so it doesn't bother him

who did the veggie patty-bec?  is it soft enough for those with no teeth?

Lisa-same here, down easier for naps than bed.

Our night wasn't so great.  Up 3 times from 8:40-9:40, fed at 9:40.  Up from 2:00-4:15    fed at 2:30 and 4:00, slept until 5:00, fed AGAIN, slept until 6:40.

Girls...PLEASE remind me tonight NOT to feel sorry for Cole at night.  Remind me to be CONSISTENT and not hold him, feed him etc.  I gave him Oval because I heard toots, tylenol because he still wasn't settling.  Maybe it's just ME he wants and I have to teach him it's time to SLEEP not be with mama.  He wasn't crying hard or anything, just wouldn't sleep. *sigh* Kate-how goes it???  Please give me inspiration.

okay, hoping for a 30 min. nap (for me) better head upstairs.  I am doing my cards today, I am doing my cards today, I am doing my cards today.  Maybe if I say it enough it will come true!

  Bec     Your nephew is toooo funny!! sore balls!!  Haaaaa!!! :)

Lisa now you have me worried... your nipples got bigger AFTER you were done bf???  I was hoping they'd get smaller by then :(  I know when I finished bf'ng Zoe and Sarah my breasts as a whole got much smaller and I was THRILLED with it.  Can't remember my nipples so much.  I'm hoping for smaller again.  Before I got pregnant the first time I too laughed in the face of the pencil test - a nice perky 36B (maaybee C).  While pregnant/nursing I ballooned to a 40D (which has been tight at times!)  and really do NOT like the bigger boobs!!  Even dh isn't so keen on it "wow, those things are huge aren't they!"    If the nipples don't get smaller I'll be buying some nipple covers for sure!

Nikki  Thanks for the recipe... maybe that will work for Zoe too - my previously awesome feeder turned "I don't like cooked veggies" girl.

Richelle well I have to say, um, uh, dropping food on the floor.  So far it's probably not happening so much on purspose as you think.  They're still figuring out control of grasping and letting go... soon though it will be on purpose and you'll get much more of it.  If it makes ya feel any better did I mention that the other day Zoe wasn't pleased with her juice and poured it out on the floor (and my feet)  :P   Although take comfort in the fact that most kids don't do that.  Cause and effect though is a very cool thing for these little ones... like "I let go of this and I hear a sound, see it roll, mom picks it back up, mom gets frustrated" :)  How cool to notice some control over ones environment.

Traci sorry for the crummy night :(  Being tired just plain sucks doesn't it?!!!!!!

So Hannah's been really working on her Darth Vader immitation and she's really good at it.  So funny.  Our night was ok... as far as Kaia and Hannah go.  Kaia was up again at 11pm - so odd - and wouldn't settle.   I think it's that top tooth but can't be sure. I ended up feeding her back to sleep as I was seriously getting annoyed.  Pu/pd was only making her scream louder!!  Then she slept till 5.15am (EARLY -but not as early as 4.45am :)) and Hannah slept right through till 6.15am.  The other two... now gosh I think we were up with everyone at some point (except Hannah) between 10.30 and 12.30   Sarah was in our bed for awhile at some point.  Zoe came in and asked me to come tuck her back in... the later just called me to come tuck her in.    Oy!

Judy - My mom said the same thing about the floor game.  I don;t know how I get frustrated as Sophie is soooo cute when she drops something on the floor and stares at it for ages trying to figure it all out!  :D

Traci - What a drag about your night but he will get it and stay strong!!  I keep meaning to give you a call, I will sometime this week.  I am staying at the airport Holiday Inn on the evening of the 13th.  By the time I get to the hotel it will be after 5, so I am not sure that works as Cole goes down not long after.  Anyway, I will chat with you about it sometime this week!

Sophie just made it past the 45 minute mark of her morning nap - YIPEE!  I made the room darker which I think had really helped.  Does anyone have those window blackout things?  I was thinking I should pick some up for our new place.

Another question:  Where do you ladies buy baby food?  In Cayman I have no choice but the grocery store, is that where all you Canadian ladies go or London Drugs or something.

I am going out today and tonight, even though it hasn't really warmed up at all.  I am so homesick for WARM and DH or I guess a WARM DH!!  Poor Sophie too, I think part of the reason she is cutting her naps short is the lack of fresh air.

hi girls,

I don't know what was causing Jack to wake before in the middle of the night but so far it seems to have stopped (keeping my fingers crossed that I didn't just jinx myself).

Richelle-I buy most of my baby food at either Save-On-foods or Superstore. I think they have both of those in Regina....is that where you are?  Buying at London Drugs would be expensive.  Superstore would for sure be the cheapest.  We have the black out blind material just pinned into the wall here.  Not fancy but it works.  If you are a seamstress (sp?) it's cheaper to buy the material then you can make it into what ever you want (ie. color and shape).  Jackson isn't very good with fingerfoods either but I keep trying.  I gave him well cooked macaroni cut in half the other day.  I think he got one piece out of about a hundred in his mouth  .  He likes arrowroots and baby mum-mums but they have sugar in them so I don't give them to him too often.  I've also done shredded cheese.  He usually just ends up with a fist full of it because he can't figure out how to let go of it.  And of course cherrios.  The dogs love when I give him fingerfoods because they get a nice snack!  :D

Traci: it will get better!!!!  ((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))   it is so hard in the middle of the night to stick to your original plan when all you want to do is to SLLEEEEEEPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!

Richelle-For the food I buy I get it at Walmart or Zellers.  Try to find sales and/or use coupons.  I think I'll be buying more than I'd originally planned.  It's so hard to find time to cook...at least until he can starting eating some of what we eat and finger foods too. Can't wait til he can do toast and stuff. We have blackout blinds.  Coles room is quite dark.

thanks for the words of encouragement girls.  I think if I'd stayed strong he wouldn have been down by 3 instead of 4:15 or so.  But I totally doubt myself, think he's in pain and needs extra cuddles.  Don't want to be a mean mommy when I think he really does need me :?

Andrea, there was something I came on here to tell you.  hmmmm, now i can't remember :?

well, Cole had another 1.5 hour nap this morning.  at least he's getting his day sleep
