Michelle-LOL at the "crappy".  I did notice I used that word but was too tired to elaborate or even type "pun intended".  I HOPE it was the watermelon seed causing the issue.  I'm not positive.  DH told me he sang Cole to sleep which is great, but I hope that isn't preventing him from being able to settle back?  that wouldn't be it, would it?  Certainly not all night.
I'm also hoping that I haven't ruined his night sleep by going to him all the time...but he escalates so fast...it's never a mantra or quiet cry anymore.

Regarding pupd for naps, do you ever do it during night sleep?  I couldn't extend Coles naps for the longest time but now that I have to do pupd for night sleep and have to stay and pat his bum and hold his hand I find this also works when I have to extend a nap.  Maybe try going in around the 38 minutes mark and lightly pat her bum until she makes it through the 45 min. mark.  Also, what is her A time before first nap?  Maybe it's too long.  I found that if I put Cole down earlier he makes it through the 45 min. mark as he's not too overtired KWIM?  Just a thought.  Coles first A time seems best around 2.5-2.75 hours.

Michelle I'm finding that I can't extend naps with PU/PD.  Admittedly I don't put forth much effort as I don't want BOTH girls awake. They had a run of dys with only 30min naps and today we had 1.5hours... I think it was the A time... I put them down at 2.25hrs and they did really well.  I find too much or too little A time gives us a poor nap.  So fussy eh?  It's tough.

once you get to daycare is it possible she'd catnap in the car on the way home if she was really tired?  Is it a long enough but short enough drive to give her enough rest to get through supper but not so much that she won't go to bed at night?

Michelle--we are still in the process of dropping the DF, but it is going well so far. We are doing it the way Tracy says in the book: drop an oz from the bottle and move DF up 30 min for 3 days, then another oz and another 30 min for 3 days, etc. We are currently down 2 oz and moved it from 11:00 to 10:00. She seems to be adjusting well. She sleeps the rest of the night, and has even been sleeping in a bit in the mornings (waking between 7:30 and 8:00 instead of between 6:30 and 7:00). It pushes her naps later in the day, but she's down to 2 now, so it's not so bad. She usually takes a good morning nap (1.5 to 2 hrs), then afternoon is anywhere from 45 min to 1 hr.

I have no advice on PU/PD, sorry! I've never been brave enough to try it, and Liv hasn't really had sleep problems since she was really young (too young for PU/PD...we did Shhh/pat). Good luck! I hope someone else can be more helpful!

Traci - if it was ME singing DD to sleep, I'm sure she'd be up all night screaming her head off..."STOP THE INSANITY!!"     DH tells me I am tone deaf.  I doubt it was your DH's singing to Cole, more than likely the watermelon seed. Such a new foreign object in his tummy and area would be sure to cause some kind of pain.

After posting about Molly NEVER taking more than 45 minute a.m. nap, it's now been just over and hour and she is still snoozing away.  LMAO. Figures. I do find that I have to put her down earlier at the morning nap or she is harder to go down and doesn't settle as easily. During the day she can go 2.5 hours, longer if we are out and about then still go right to sleep for her nap. In the morning, I often put her down before the 2 hours (especially if she's had a bad night). Today I put her down at 2.25 hours and she went right to sleep. Yes, it is very hard finding that perfect time!!

As far as PU/PD I have tried it awhile back for naps but had no success and just gave in. Never tried it for night wakings, which have now seemed to stop, thank goodness!! I think I will try to keep the activity time less in the a.m. as suggested and just go with the flow, and keep hoping for longer a.m. naps!!

Judy, I was thinking the same thing about the catnap on the drive home as it is about 20 minutes. A perfect amount of time to get in a quick snooze, as you say, just enough to get through dinner and bath.

Thanks ladies!!

Hey, girls!

MUST go do some cleaning/laundry.   :(   But, wanted to let you know we had another great night!  Hooooray!  Less than an hour of pu/pd to get to sleep and then he slept through the night.   :D   (Nancy, thanks for the reminder to chart..makes me feel like we're getting somewhere!) Got 11 hours this time, but he is still so sleepy looking.  He's at 1 hour 10 for his first nap with NO pu/pd! We'll see how it goes.  Traci, I'm SURE your night will be better.  Ryan had watermelon yesterday, too.  Did Cole like the taste (of course he didn't like the seed)?  Ryan seems to like all fruit so far...well, all food, honestly, this kid is HUGE!

Michelle, I've never really had to extend naps too much.  He's usually pretty good about napping.  For pu/pd in general, I think consistency and no eye contact are the key (no claim here on being an expert, though!).  I say, "It's nap/bed time, Ryan. Time to go to sleep" EVERY time I pick him up.  It gets annoying to me the 30th or 40th time I've said it  , but whatever works, right?

Really must clean as he'll be up any second!
Kate,

Hey ladies.  Just wanetd to pop on really quickly and say hi.  I wanted to send hugs to the lo's with bad sleeps and good vibes to Tracy's and Holly's dads...plus hugs to the sick ones and just a whole lotta I am thinking about you all and reading and enjoying hearing everything.  Oh yes and I love the pictures...all of them.  Nice new avatar Nikki.
I feel like I am in the final countdown here which is a little silly because I am only going back for a week and a half then have break for two weeks....but alas.
Met with my replacement teacher Sat.  It went well.
Sophie was totally out of sorts all day saturday nap #1 was on me nap #2 was on dh.  I left to work in between which was a little hard.  We were at MIL's since they live close to my school, we sort of camped out there all day.

When S was so upset MIL said "I think I might have some infant tylenol, do you want to try it?  It's left over from brendan"  Brendan, who  is going to 7 years old on Thursday.  So I say "Uh, Linda, would you mind checking the expiration date on that bottle?"  She was really embarassed, it was Dec. 2002!!!  Oh boy.  I have to say that scared me a little.  It's crazy how these so called "experienced moms" :) still have some pretttyyyy scary ideas.  On the plus side, she is so sweet with Sophie, and was really able to help her calm down and play...even though she was in pain?Separation issues? Maybe, who knows....Night sleep was fine so ????

OK, thought this was going to be quick. I have to go shower etc so we can get out and about when she wakes.

Oh yeah...naomi---such cute hair!! You are my inspiration to keep growing mine :)  Even though I wake up each morning looking like Don King :)

Hi ladies,

What a weekend I have had arrrghhhhhh.......more on that later...

Judy - You must be sooo excited for DH to be home and glad that you got to have a snoozeroo after your night  !

Traci -  about your night as well, I imagine it was that seed which may seem harmless and small to us but for a little guy...Good vibes for your dad's surgery!

Holly - YES on the sleep and hoping that your family get's sorted out!

Kate well done on the good night - I hope you had another one!

Michelle - I hope Molly is feeling better

Erin - that is sooo great that you found your ring!

Ankie, Micky, Holly, Lisa - What great pictures!!  Such a good lookin' bunch!

So we went to the lake this weekend which of course means packing up Sophie and all her CRAP AGAIN and more traveling!!  My dad invited 16 people + our family = 21 people and a baby to their cabin for my mom's birthday 'party'.  Well, I ask him before we leave what he needs help with and he insists he is completly organized and that he didn;t have me travel all this way to work ect ect...he goes so far as to assure me that his assistant has helped him organize the food and shopping ect...so silly me I believe him.

We get there and of course he has forgotten all the stuff for appetizer's, her present, her card and half the ingredients to make supper  .  I get Sophie set up and unpacked (bed et al.) and start to cook, and get lists ready for some last minute shopping at the tiny lake store.  I ended up doing ...drum roll please...everything for dinner for 21 people and 2 cakes (the first one fell because my dad checked it 1/2 way through and slammed the oven so it fell!)  He peeled the potatoes and made some soup (the guests did the dishes even).  Then once all is said and done we pack it all up again to get home and I have to deal with Sophie ect...and my mom ends up unpacking everything and cleaning everything from  HER birthday party - my dad was having a nap  !

Sophie's 2 front teeth cut through yesterday as well (poor little lamb) so all I asked was for my dad to be ready to go by her nap time so she could sleep in the car - I mean really  - if I can be ready ANYONE can be ready, you guessed it 15 minutes past her naptime and she is screaming bloody murder while my dad is putzing around.  That is when I let rip, I told him we were leaving NOW - if he wanted to wrap up whatever he was doing he would have to drive back up to the lake and do it.

Oh such a long post and Sophie has just woken up for the 4th time from her nap *sigh*.   Thanks for letting me vent if anyone even made it this far  !!

Hi Guys,

so much to catch up on I don't think I can do it all, but here goes:
Judy-hooray for DH coming home!!!  so glad for you.  also, on top of taking care of 4 kids, you also bring in the wood?!?!?  way to go lady :D

Michelle-forgot to tell you WELCOME!  been meaning to say that.  we were on a lot of the same posts when our lo's were very little, remember?I always enjoyed chatting with you :) Sorry about Molly's ear infection

Erin-SOOOO happy you found your ring.  that is great news and such a releif.

Ankie, Nikki, Holly, Micki and anyone else taht posted pics, sooo cute!  Micky that woudl be a great christmas picture, a'la teh little drummer boy KWIM?

Hannah-wishing you good luck this week.  stay strong-YOU CAN DO IT!  we are all here for you

Richelle-what a wonderfully restful birthday party for you and your mom!  Dads are men after all right?

nancy-glad to hear droppign the df is going well.  Hannah, how is it going in your house?

Traci-sending good vibes your way for your dad's surgery.  I know it has been a struggle for you and his health/drinking.  Maybe this time it will be a wake up call?

So an update over here in our neck of the woods:
 Taylor can now join the club of HAVING TEETH!  her first one has broken through on the bottom left-just a bit showing through but man is it sharp!  can't wait to see what that is goign to feel like when she bites down on the nipple!

 Naps are positively frustrating over here!  For the last 2 weeks (minus 2 days) she has taken a 30-45 minute am nap, but then at least a good second nap of at least 1.5-2 hours.     I tried to extend with PU/PD but absolutely no go.  I did it for 4 days straight and it just really upsets her sooo much.  But funny it doesn't bother her at night and will settle very quickly with pu/pd at night.
So anyhow, yesterday seh finally had a 1.5 hour nap in the morning and slept till 11:20.  Well then at 2 she was no where near tired enough to go down for nap #2.  We tried for 1 hour with Pu/PD, holding, feedign to sleep, Nada.  FInally she fell asleep on me for a whopping 20 minutes!  then we had to go get her Christmas pics taken   :x
My final thoughts: if she only takes a 45 minute am nap, just going to go with it since the afternoon nap is the more important one anyhow.  If she does take a longer am nap not letting her nap later than 11 am.  let's see if that works.
So her A times are now 2 hours 45 minutes for a.m. and 3+ hours for pm.  Crazy girl!

ALso-she started commando crawling!!!  so cute to see.  She first started crawlign because she wanted the dog bones!  gross.

Okay, gotta go and wake baby!  good luck everyone today!

BTW-Cathy, sorry about teh eyes girl.  That is too bad and we will miss seeing you as much hear, btu you still gotta pop on and say hi!

haven't had a chance to read just wanted to say:

YIPPEE-while I was at the doc my brother called and dad's surgery was a success.  As for the drinking Andrea, apparently my father said to my brother and his wife the other day "I only drink a little now, I was almostan alcoholic".  Oh well.  What to do

Got the flu shot at the peds.  And sheesh, it was just the stupid secretary the other day being stupid. Dr. said it was fine I was giving tylenol.  I think they just wanted me in for the flu shot...if they get paid for it...they must, right?  she said it likely was the teeth last night even with tylenol.  They are almost through so maybe another rough one tonight.

okay, gotta run, doctor kept us waiting 1:15 so Cole just went down for nap. I think I've got about 20 more min. and I'm just going to lie down and chill for a bit.

Andrea, thanks for the welcome!! I certainly do remember us being on almost every post together when our DD's were "little". They are only a few days apart I think.
Molly and Taylor's schedule sounds exactly the same. The morning nap is always short (except for today, which was 2 hours ) and the afternoon one is then 1.5 hours usually. If Molly wakes up early then we are usually "done" naps by 1 pm!! Grrrrrrrrr. Often I try to sneak in the catnap around 4 pm, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't!

Richelle - boy oh boy, they are all the same aren't they?? A nap after all his hard work. Imagine that!!

Traci - congrats on Dad's surgery. Hope recovery goes well too.

Andrea and Michelle - Sophie is doing the same lately with her naps, short AM, good PM one.  I too decided to leave it alone as I need her to have a better nap in the afternoon.

OK, it is -25C here    what the f%&@??!!!!!!  Sophie and I are trapped in the house, camped in front of the fireplace!!  Vaseline has worked wonders on her instant chapped face, it was so bad yesterday that anything on her face (food ect.. stung and she would cry  )  I started putting vaseline on it yesterday morning and it is almost back to normal  :D !

Traci, pleased to hear your dad came out of surgery ok.

We also always had a short am nap (45-1hr) and then a 1.5-2.5hr afternoon one.  I actually wake her up if she looks like she's going to do a big one in the morning, because otherwise she ends up doing a short afternoon and that makes things a bit tricky.  In fact it's now 9.55am and she's been in bed since 9am, so better go get her up shortly.  She can often be awake from 2pm-7pm some days.

Judy, so pleased DH is coming home, hope the flight's on time!  PS: I'm sure dh would look real cute in Diego pyjamas LOL.

Right better go and wake up my little missy.

BTW, Traci-glad to hear it went well.  Funny comment from dad though.  Waht are you going to do?  I think you've done as much as you can at this point.

Also, when we went to the peds the other day to check on taylor's cold, we asked to get teh 2nd round of her flu shot but they said no since she wasn't 100%.  anyone else lo's getting the kind of flu shots that is 2 rounds?
