Heather and Christine- the rose pictures are to die for!  I'm off to to book an apt with Target

Here is a brief thing about the fat rolls- it is about hip dislocation:

http://parenting.ivillage.com/tp/tpdevelopment/0,,3qhs,00.html

I will know more after her apt.  Won't be until the 12th grrr, could be sooner with another doc but her regular ped really wants to be the one to check her.  I will keep you guys posted.

Today the morning nap was better, but afternoon ones were shorter.  I don't get it really but we're totally on the 4 hr schedule now and no more cluster- she still slept through the night- I was getting sooo stressed out so I'm kind of going back to the basics- she'll let me know what she needs type of thing...

Here's how it's ended up:

6:15 bf
7:30 breakfast
8:00 1st nap (1.5 hrs)
10:00 bf
11:15 lunch
11:30 nap (was only 45 min today)
1:45 bf
2:00 nap (was 1.5)
4:00 dinner
5:00 bath
5:15 bf and to bed

I think many mothers would be happy with this :D

Heather & Christine: LOVE LOVE LOVE the photos!  I hope Asher's turn out as well!

Michelle: Yeah, Asher was straining this afternoon while doing his business and actually cried a little.  :(      Hopefully the pears he had for lunch will keep things moving.  I was going to start rice cereal on Saturday, but now I'm wondering about that.  I guess I could always give him a smaller meal of cereal and finish up with more pears.      I need to go plant a pear tree with the way we're going through them!
We really want to send in some stuff to AFV, but I don't think we have anything good enough to win yet!  We LOVE that show.  There's only a few shows that have ever made me laugh out loud, and AFV is one of them!
On the missed nap, I put Asher down as soon as I can, sometimes feeding him again before if he would end up sleeping through his next feed.  Then I just adjust the rest of the day, with an earlier or later bedtime if I need to (+/- 30 min).  If it's too close to bed to get in a full nap, but too long to keep him up, I put him down for a bit and then wake him up so he can still go to bed around the same time.  Stretching them out might make them too overtired to get a good night's rest.  It's risky.

Kinlagh had a 20 minute power nap in the car on the way home and was energetic and didn't appear to need another nap once we got home.  So we kept her up til bedtime and she went down better than usual actually.  We often get a few cries, but not a peep tonight.  She must be so exhausted after the last 2 days.  Poor kid.

JulieB - As for the cereal, if their systems are at all alike, Asher shouldn't have problems with it.  Of all things she's eaten so far (3 cereal, 6 veggies, 4 fruit) the only one that had a constipating effect was the bananas.  Just make sure you keep the cereal pretty liquidy at first til his little system gets used to it.
And we have one video we'd love to send to AFV, but we have yet to send it in.  We'll be one of those families that finally sends it in and when we're interviewed, the baby in the video will now be 8 years old.

Take care all.

Heather - I am trying to work more quiet one-on-one time into our schedule.  Today it didn't go so well.  She woudn't go down for her afternoon nap.  She dozed off for 20min total all afternoon.  By dinnertime she was pretty wired.  I wound up feeding her and putting her to bed an hour early.  Of course she fell sound asleep ont he first side, so I am sure she is going to wake up hungry tonight.

JulieB - We are experiencing the same poo phenomena.  It's kind of nice.  She has also gotten v. regular (this from my once every 7-10 days gal), every other morning during her first nap.  As for the rice cereal, we add a few teaspoons of prune juice if she seems to be slowing up.

Heather and Christine
- Those pics are adorable.  You guys are making me feel a bit guilty for not having Maya's photo done yet.

Michelle - We play it by ear on the nap thing.  If she seems to be doing ok, we try to hold out until her normal bedtime.  If she's super cranky (like today), we put her down up to an hour early.  It doesn't seem to have much effect on her morning wake-up.

Branwen - Awesome schedule - that's what we're shooting for (though sleeping in until 7am would be nice, but I'll take what I can get).  As for scheduling, I understand completely.  I finally got Maya's PT and neurosurgery appts scheduled - the first appts I could get were Sept 6 for PT and the Sept 9 for the neurosurgeon.  I understand they're busy, but it's just more time for us to worry.

Everyone seems to be doing so well!!! We're having some night waking issues, but I am not sure if they have to do with teething or her stuffed up nose of what. And of course we're leaving to go camping tonight! I told DH, if the wakings keep up we are going to have to sit down and make a plan. I go back to work on tuesday and I don't think I can get by on the amount of sleep I am getting now! Well, this will be my last post till Monday. Take care everyone and don't post too much!!! You know how it is when you are gone for awhile! You come back and there are like 6 new pages!!!!  Take care and I will "see" you all Monday morning with pictures from our camping excursion!

oh my god Christine!  That is too funny!  Does your dh not aim well with the spoon

Good luck going back to work! (((hugs))) I hope your transition goes well.

For all- I have been meaning to plug the Baby Bjorn feeding spoons for awhile now.  They are wonderful!  Not available at stores but available online.  I have two but I must get more!  Eirwen really likes them and I do too.  They are very flexible and bendy with long handles.

Maya looks like that when dh gets done too (though there is usually some on the back of the chair behind her as well).  I don't think he has mastered the instinctual, spoon in, pause to catch what comes back out.

Christine,  that picture is REALLY funny.  Gave me a good laugh :D !

Branwen, glad to hear that Eirwen is doing better on the routine.  Emily is also doing a lot better.  Now I'm getting two 1.5hr naps and one catnap and back to going to bed at 6:30.  And she slept thru till 7:00am :D  :D  :D .  (well no crying till then but she played happily in her crib at 2:00am without us going in :? )  Our keys were also longer awake time and limiting nap1.  Also, I'm cutting back slowly on the df.

Everyone, just want to say thank you again for your routine tips.  It's made a world of difference in our day.  Last night I starting crying just thinking about her growing up and not being a baby anymore...sigh.

Good night everyone, Tarri

Oh, does anyone have any tips on how to get a diaper not to leak overnight?

Tarri - We've never had that trouble, but I've had a couple people tell me that putting a second diaper on, one size larger than the first works pretty well.

Tarri - we used to have the problem and Kinlagh would wake in a puddle of pee.  But I find it's a thing of the past since stopping the dreamfeed.  You may find it's not so much a problem as you're now weaning her off.  But in the meantime, I've also heard of the double diaper trick, but have never tried it myself.

Christine-great pic!  How funny.  Daddy lets 'em do whatever, doesn't he?  (Mine included)  Hope your camping trip goes well.  My family camped nonstop when we were all younger.  I hope it is something we do with Kelsey in the future.
Branwen-there are so many products Baby Bjorn makes that I didn't realize.  I'll have to check out their website.  I'm fasinated with neat baby products.  Thanks for sharing.  Hope the dr appt goes well, although I hate that you have to wait so long to see them.
Jaime-a word!  How wonderful!  I bet it's just the sweetest voice.  Do you make repetative sounds with him alot, or do they just do it on their own?
Tarri-how great that Emily is doing so well with her routine.  I know you are very pleased, and rested!  I had a bad week with Kelsey's diapers leaking overnight.  I didn't know what was different.  I try to give her time to pee after her bottle, but usually she's so tired and I really need to get her to bed.  I just make sure I change her diaper, even if it's only been 30 minutes.  I use Pampers Cruisers, and they are wonderful.  I never dreamed I'd get excited over a diaper, but I love these.  The next thing I was going to do is put a disposable pad under her so I wouldn't have to keep changing the sheet every morning.  Branwen offered a tip that a friend of her's does.  She buys the next size up and puts it over the regular diaper at night.  I think that is right.
Us-Kelsey's been an angel lately.  She's still grunting and "ummmming", which can be a bit annoying, but overall she's been very pleasant.  She took a 2.5 hour nap this afternoon, and I had to wake her.  She's going down awake for naps and putting herself to sleep.  It's not on purpose by me, but she tends to wake as I lay her down, but settles and goes to sleep.  I always expect her to start screaming, but she hasn't lately.  My mom and I went to dinner tonight with Kelsey.  She did fine, but she just doesn't want to be stuck in her carrier while so much is going on at the table and all around.  She's not stable enough, though, for the high chairs most restaurants offer.  My mom kept finding ways to prolong our visit because since she's been back teaching she hasn't been able to spend as much time with us.  She really misses Kelsey, and I felt so bad leaving her tonight.

Tarri, we had leaky diaper problems and I switched many brands until I settled on Luvs.  Asher leaks out of the side since he sleeps on his side.  So the key was the area that goes over the hips.  I had to buy the next size up and lay them down just so to make sure they fully cover his hips.  When he started leaking again, I knew it was time to go to the next size (wore at night only for a while).  They went up to his armpits though, so I folded the top over!      He's been in these size 3's for a really long time though and no problems yet.  You could also try some rubber pants made for cloth diapers?

ok now i am reallyannoyed- i wrote a huge post last night and saw it go through (or so i thought  ) and now i see it is all gone.

won't really back track now but will say - yay to :
 everyone who is doing well - Branwen good news about the 4 hr
 the babies are safe and sound in spite of their "incidents" or forced change in routine
 Emily for sleeping "through" and letting your parents get some sleep

Christine and Heather - beautiful photos.

Branwen - i read your info on the fat rolls... and it seems to be a long shot that anything is actually wrong, so i will be positive for you.  let us know how the Doctor's appt goes.

Tarri - the only other suggestion i have for nappy leaking is that you could put a slim sanitary pad or pantyliner in the nappy for extra absorbtion  :?:

Us - we are at the tail end of the growth spurt and will find out at my next clinic appt on Monday how much "growth" has occurred - i hope there was some height gain instead of all belly bulge!! she  slept through until 7:15 past 2 days without crying out for food (took early feed at 9:30-10pm both nights though).  now that she is not as hungry she is not as keen on solids - yesterday i tried sweet potatoes and had minor success but today she barely opened her mouth for cereal and pears!! will have to be patient i guess.

alex is doing well - no chicken pox - not sure what the red spots were.  My mom told me that chicken pox always starts on the torso though so that made me relax as they were on her thighs and arms.  a friend suggested a bit of a heat rash since she had a fever as well.  who knows???
