thanks for the tips re: heating and storing food.  I was only keeping the carrots max three days anyway so that's good.

Is anyone having the opposite problem re: constipation.  Since 1am last night Cole has had 5 poopy diapers.  Some bigger than others, but still, poop is poop and needs to be changed   I did three diapers in the middle of the night last night as I mentioned before.  Changing this boy is no easy task either.  I am physically drained afterwards trying to hold him down. :?  He had the biggest broccoli poop after his last feed (broccoli from lunch).  Does it just take their bodies a while to adjust to the new foods and absorb more of them?  I guess the carrots go right through him too.  I worry that maybe I'm feeding him too much, but he would keep eating more at the end of every meal if I had more.  He pretty much eats 2 cubes of veg and 3 tbsp of cereal at every meal now.  That's a lot, isn't it? Who posted that chart?  The high end showed 29 tbsp of food.  I guess I'm okay then, as Cole is at around 21 now give or take (1 cube = 2 tbsp, right?) I think I'm going to introduce fruit before I finish all the vegetables.  I don't think it will be an issue for Cole to eat other vegs after fruit.  It seems he'll eat just about anything.  I'm really excited to get to the point where Jackson is...where I can just mash/blend the things I have for dinner and stuff.

Holly-I emailed you re: my business idea.  Clothing for parents and babies...just in the researching stage right now.  Hoping to make it a success so I can stay home when #2 comes around.

Hayley - if it's any help, the first few teeth Katie got, she was up every day at 5 AM for a week, so maybe that has something to do with your early wakings?

Micky - hope Jack's surgery is going ahead as planned and that all goes well.

Worked my first full day today - dropped Katie off at day care around 9 and got home at 8:15 - it's only two days a week that I do that, so trading those two days away instead of 5 full ones is definitely worth the craziness.  DH picks her up at daycare and is supposed to put her to bed at 7:30, which is her routine, but it seems more often than not, she's still up when I come home.  Though today when I walked in her room while she was about to have her bottle, she practically jumped out of his arms trying to get to me.  Now that was a wonderful feeling   :D  :D  :D

Hi everyone, i too have had problems with my computer and have BW withdrawls :(. Iwill go back tonight after james goes to bed and read everything.

Traci, in regards to Coles' poos, I notice that James does more when he is teething (he has 3) but even on his normal days, he always does at least 2 :o .

Our days are going well.  Does anyone else worry they have a ADD baby?  James does not stop moving!  He is like the Energizer bunny - no wonder he sleeps for about 11-12hrs a night.    Dressing at bedtime is often a 2 person job.  I have had many a day where James only wears a nappy and singlet during the day because it is easier(it is summer here).

Solids are going well.  I haven't found anything that doesn't agree with him.  I have James on chicken and beef, lots of different veges now but will wait until 8mths to introduce fish.  He also has scrambled eggs and so far, so good........ :)
He still prefers his savour foods he will eat fruits etc but not without screwign his face to start with.

Does anyone have trouble getting their lo's to drink out of a sippy cup?  James will drink out of a normal cup (no lid) but will not use the sippy lids?

HOpe everyone is going well.  Jo and Deb, I will email those recipes to you shortly.  Sorry for the delay.

Just one more question:  is anyone else doing finger foods? James has 3 teeth and I have been doing bread, banana and watermelon.  Has anyone tried cheese? What other foods have you used?

Thanks

Hello everyone.  Missed the chat too, Dh and I are trying to get back to running.
Andrea-I feel very guilty about buying things.  I bought a very cute pair of corduroys for Ben yesterday and returned them today.  I feel like I can't buy anything for myself.  Not sure what's going to happen once I get into full fledged Christmas shopping.  It is frustrating how tight our budget is but what can I do?  I am curious about all of this at home business start up.  THose of you who are doing it please be sure to keep us informed.
Hayley-I take naps/snoozes while Ben is happily playing in the morning.  I think it is okay as long as I am right next to him, the story will be different very soon when he starts crawling.
Traci-I don't heat the food up super hot.  I don't have the stinking time to wait for it to cool off.  SOme of the food heats up a lot faster than other cubes so I end up really toasting some of it.
Lisa-Ben is super active at night when we are changing him and for his last feed.  His legs, arms and voice are going crazy.  I sometimes wonder how much chocolate I ate to make this kid be so wild!  JJ I can't have more than 1 cookie at a time because I bounce off the wall.  We are hoping that he didn't inherit that gene.
We are having 6am wakings and he used to sleep until 6:30-7:30.  That extra 30 minutes of sleep is very missed.
Sleepy time here, talk to you all tomorrow.  I wish we could all meet up for coffee...

Traci, we had brocolli poos here today too. He had them for the first time today at midday and it was thru him by 4pm. Very sloppy. Yick!

As I mentioned earlier Daniel doesn't really take an afternoon catnap anymore. Well, due to a 5.30am start to the day, he was very tired by late thisafternoon, so I bathed and put him down by 6pm. DH is worried he'll wake up earlier but I"m hoping for later. At least he's not awake and grumpy any more. We're hoping for another full night sleep tonight. I"ve said to DH I think we should consider 5.am(ish) as a night waking and therefore try to resettle like we are now doing if it's at 2am. He's not so sure. Oh well, we'll see what happens over night.

Daniel's still not eating that much. Only about 60gms food (2oz I think) or 2 cubes of veges per meal. Or is that about what your LO's are doing? I think you discussed that a while back but can't recall. We've got our health nurse visit tomorrow, so I guess I'll find out what she has to say. Daniel also gets weighed and measured so that's exciting to see how he's progressed.

Well, DH is at a work function tonight so I've got to cook myself dinner.  Normally it's cooked for me! I know, I"m very lucky. I think part of the reason DH is so keen for Daniel to bottle feed is so he can do the last feed of the night and I can cook dinner.

Oh, speaking of feeding, we tried the different teet for the Dr Brown bottle today and Daniel took 30 mls of water - and he seemed happy about it! Actually wanted it in his mouth. I might be brave and try some formula tomorrow.

Bye for now.

I'm just going to have to jump right on in, I've missed posting for a few days...

Hayley, the kumura seems to be fine with D now, I think that maybe she just needed to get used to the feeling of a firmer poo coming out.

D only eats probably 2Tbsns of food at lunch and then again at dinner, I dropped her back a little today since she hasn't been drinking as much milk and I really want to keep that up as her main nutrition for a few more months.

Traci, I also only heat my frozen cubes enough to defrost it and warm it.   If you do do the piping hot method, try transferring it onto a cold plate (even chilled in the fridge if you like).

Yay, D slept right through the night last night - a first for a wee while.  Not sure if was the new block out curtains since her room is quite light from street lights, but we'll see what happens tonight.

Traci - I can't believe you are changing poopy diapers in the night - I say thank goodness Cole isn't having a curry like Jakcson!! :D    I don't know why, probably just getting used to all the new foods.  I keep the jarred food for 2 days and Sophie is eating 4 oz(4 cubes) every meal  is that alot??  that is 8 TBSP, 24 a day...anyone else feeding this much?

LIsa - LOL about the ADD!  I asked DH the other day if he thought Sophie was normal as she was spinning in circles on her tummy squealing  !  Also dressing her is both of our least favourite thing to do.  It is hot here all the time so she is always just in a onesie and sometimes just a diaper and socks.

Micky - I think you hear for sure today about Jack's surgery tomorrow...GOODLUCK!!  I hope DH is feeling better.

Yah Daniel and Danielle on sleeping through the night!!

Hayley - I am not sure if you should class the 5am wake up as night waking either, it is a tough call as he has slept for 11 hours, sorry not much help here..

Erin - What a great welcome home from Katie.  isn't it nice to finally get some recognition from these lo's that we have been putting our heart and soul into? :D

I tried Yobaby yogurt yesterday - wow what a reaction, she hates it!!  I really thought i would hold off on yogurt as i didn;t want her to really like it want it all the time!!  I have never seen a reaction like that to food - I think she was actually angry that I tried to feed it to her!!  But then being mean mommy, when DH got home I gave her some more so he could see her reaction and we had a good chuckle, poor Sophie  !

I am at home today, trying to work and get the house organized for our move as they are doing construction on our roof    We have not had a very successful nap rate!  I also am trying desperately to tie up loose ends for work as I want to have an easy transition and I also have to get ready to go to Canada by the end of the month!!!!!  I need a massage....

hi guys!!
well, we are waiting to hear from the OR to make sure Jack's surgery is still on for tomorrow.  thanks for all the well-wishes.  DH is sad because he doesn't think he should come to the hospital with all the other sick kids being there. :(

about the food-isn't one cube=to one tbsp=1/2 oz  ??  that's what I thought.  Because for sure 1 oz is = to 30 mls.  I don't know that just my thought.

Another comment on rolling/squirmy babes and diaper changes....I have been giving Jackson a "special" teddy to hold onto and play with during diaper changes and that helps to keep him still.

I'm sure I'll be on here at least one more time to get my "fix".  Talk to you all later!

About solids...

I am totally winging it here... Arwyn gets nowhere close to what the recommended range is (according to the previously posted guidelines). I am taking it to mean 4-8 tbsp per day total... not of each food. Is this correct?

Arwyn eats maybe 2 tbsps of food per meal... most of the time, it is less. I don't know if this is normal. As my DH keeps saying, we have no frame of reference. I know that my friends have los who will eat 6-8 oz at a meal!

Also... about the cubes. A standard tray makes 1 oz. cubes (2 tbsp) usually. Tupperware (the one with the lid) makes .5 oz. cubes (1 tbsp). I just bought them and will be making some because I am constantly throwing out food!

Hope everything is well for everybody. I think we are finally on the way to recovery. Only 4 wakings last night  and this is a good improvement from the sleepless nights we have been experiencing over here. We also are struggling with the 6 am wake-up. Ever since the time change, we have been unable to convince her to go back to sleep until 7 am. It used to be so easy to do that  but as we all know, once we get it figured out...

Micky... I hope Jackson's surgery goes as planned for tomorrow. I'll be thinking of you and Jackson. I'm also sending get well vibes to your poor DH!

Oh... one last thing. About the cup/sippy cup issue. Tupperware has these lids that have no valve and the spouts are quite small (not like some of the gigantic spouts that Arwyn has trouble getting into her mouth) and we have been quite successful in getting her to drink water from it. I still use the regular cup with handles but we use that for milk only. She expects milk in that cup and will make a funny face if she gets something else.

TTFN! (Hannah, that's for you.)

okay, what is TTFN?  I am acronym clueless.

I think that a typical ice cube tray is 1oz, 2tbsp.  I'll have to check BWSAYP again.  But as Ankie said...some specialty ones are smaller.  maybe you have one of those Micky?  Ankie- I believe it meant 4-8 tbsp for each food.  On the low end, Arwyn would only have to eat 2 cubes at each meal...that's not too bad.  I'm sure she'll work her way up.  There's no rush.  Look at Judy struggling to get 1 tbsp b/w two girls!!!  They'll eat when they are ready...just like Cole will sleep through when he is LOL

Best wishes for the surgery Micky.  Good call by DH not to go to the hospital. As much as he'd like to be there, certainly not a good idea exposing all those people.

Lisa-re ADD.  you're not serious, are you?  Cole is just as energetic as James.  It is exhausting but every day I just count my lucky stars that he is happy and healthy.  Not sure when concern for ADD would come in to play.  sorry if you were just being sarcastic.   :?

Yay to Daniel and Danielle on the good sleeps.

Cole wasn't too bad last night.  fed at 9, up for an hour from 11-12 (heard DH come home I think) fed at 2, up at 5:00.  OH well.  Not sure what to do about the 5 am wake up.   Might cut out catnap today and see if that makes him more tired.  It's a vicious circle...5 am wakeup, hard to make it all day.  So I'll stretch him for a late 2nd nap and put him down early for bed.

Erin-so glad to hear work went well and that warm welcome must have been so rewarding at the end of it all ( I need that emoticon with the cute heart attached to it here)

gotta run...not happy in the saucer...

Traci - I think the poopy diapers are just what happens. Brady has been the same way, I think first its their bodies getting use to new food, and second, the more food they start to eat the more they are gonna go...lol....they were used to just breast milk before so its a big change.  Glad to hear you got some better sleep....and the ttfn is ta ta for now....lol

Lisa - dressing Brady is  very difficult these days as well, i have to try and keep him very occupied with toys etc, to try to even change his diaper...

Micky - Good  luck about Jack's surgery tomorrow.

Great work  Daniel and Danielle on the good sleeps.

Richelle, good luck with the naps today with all your construction.....

Sooo, I'm so very happy with our sleep last night.  Its the best we have ever gotten.
I've been tweaking his routines for a bit now, trying to find what works best for Brady and well here goes yesterday.

wake             800
BF                8:30
Breakfast        9:00
Nap                10:15
wake             1:15
Lunch             1:30
Bottle            2:00
Nap                4:00
Wake             6:15
Supper             7:00
Bottle             8:00
wind down, story, song etc
Sleep             9:10
Wake at             10:30 for 1/2 an hour
wake at             12am for 1/2 hour
wake at             3:00 am for one hour, needing diaper change etc
and then final wake at 6:50 am

the best we've ever had...lol

Well gotta run, lo is getting restless....I'm so happy about our night though, my body isn't sure what to do with all this rest...lol

Hey Holly-so it looks like Brady has become super napper extraordinaire!  Might I suggest limiting his day sleep?  I know that it sounds ridiculous because you work so hard getting him to sleep in the first place...but he had 5.25 hours of day sleep yesterday it looks like.  that is a lot.  Average for this age is 2.25.  If you look he was up for a total of 2 hours in the night plus he went to bed at 9 which is a touch late.  Their best sleep is before midnight, so try to have him down for 8. This will be easier when you cut the naps down. That gives you 3 hours of awake time at night that seems to offset with his long naps IYKWIM?   I would aim for a total of 3 hours max.   just my opinion.  Does anyone have any input for Holly on how much sleep and which nap should be longer?  sorry if that's confusing...i kept adding thoughts here and there.  does it make sense?  Seems like he's getting used to his routine.  It does take time but I think you are already starting to see the benefits.  Yay Brady!

okay, I should go and get ready for our stroll after his nap.  he went down at 12:45 and I'm hoping he goes until 2, for bed at 6pm.

This morning he had a 30 min. nap and I held him for another hour or so (broken up into bits as I tried putting him down 3 times w/o success).

Holly-please email me the stay at home ideas you've come across...or we can discuss next time we meet up.

Yes...TTFN...ta ta for now...let's see what other ones I can pull up from my note passing days in highschool...BFF  Best friends forever...JK Just Kidding..KS Keep Smiling...that's all I can think of for now but there are more I'm sure.

Anyhow.  Congrats on the good night Holly.  You've come a long way already!! Yay for you.

Ugh, changing diapers and pj's...yes it is a major struggle here too.  As is wiping the face after a meal. Seriously you would think I was oh I don't know (insert something very painful here) with the way she screams and cries and turns away from the washcloth.  Any one having the same issue?  Any ideas?
I like the idea for the toy while changing.  Funny how they just keep getting older and you forget to grow with them at times :)

Micky best wishes for the surgery I will be thinking about you and Jackson.

The sippy cup issue.  I though nuby's were the ticket but she has since decided not to like Nuby's I guess, I know you are supposed to stick with the same one for what three weeks?? But of course I switched to Avent and she will actually drink a little water from that, without the...argh mommy brain what do you call those things...oh yes! valves (??) I have seen the tupperware ones before they sound good, maybe I'll try to locate one.

LOL richelle about the yobaby...sounds like something I would do. The faces are pretty funny when they don't like something and it sounds like all the lo's are getting a wee bit fiesty about likes and dislikes!!!

Food-I am desperate for some more ideas.  She is loving the melt in your mouth cereal thingys from gerber.  I love the watermelon idea.   DH is sooo worried about choking he has kinda got me really scared too but truly she probably will have more troubles until she gets the hang of it, so I guess I have to get over it.  We tried that mesh bag thingy where you put the food inside and they can chew on it.  She wanted NOTHING to do with it which is really weird because she puts every thing in her mouth.
I was just saying to my running partner this morning, I have a hard enough time figuring out what to make for myself and dh for dinner, now I have to plan meals for her as well?!  It has been so easy up until now to just buy, open and serve :)  But I agree, I think she's a little bored with gerber :) Time to move on.

Nikki-do you know the reasoning behind milk feeds being the ideal main source of nutrition? Just curious.  ALso, for how long? One year?

I think I'll try egg yolk, pear slices to gnaw on, maybe watermelon if I can find some...
What about bread, how do you serve that...Hayley you and Lisa both mentioned it.
I went to "worldmarket" yesterday hoping to find some of those heinz teething rusks...no such luck.  I ended up buying a whole bunch of cadbury chocolate though...not that I needed it.  I think I am PMSing I have been a bit of a rager the last few days.
OK, OK, enough already!
TTFNTML (just made that up...ta ta for now to my ladies
  )
You guys really bring out the goof in me.

Traci,
I guess we posted at the same time!
Sopie sleeps a lot during the day too, and still goes 11-12 hours at night.  I am not bragging really, sometimes dh and I acll her a sleepaholic...
She usually takes two 1.5-2 hour naps...and sometimes a .5 catnap on top of that??? Doesn't that seem strange?
Anyhow, just thought I'd thrown my two cents in on that one.
See ya later.
