I hope it arrives soon. Why does that happen? As soon as you write something it all changes. Must be what Tracy meant by 'This too shall pass". It would be nice if that only applied to that bad and not the good stuff eh??!!

LOL, I never write when things are good either,  I am secretly hopeing that by writing when things are bad, that they will somehow reverse.

things are BAD right now, doesn't matter what I do.
yesterday was a shorter nap day, 1hr 25min or so,
no biggy, I put him to bed at 6:30pm and as expected he fell asleep at 7pm, but then woke today at 5:30am! great, just when things can't get any worse they do!
so then I thought, ok I'll do a 10min am nap, at 9:45 am, and now he's playing in his crib, and now at 10:10 he is wanting OUT!

so we may be in for a long walk coming up , a very LONG A time this am and a nap at 11:30 or 11:45,

deb...sorry to hear that things are bad.
i think you might just need to go for one nap.  i can't think of anything to even say/suggest, because he really does seem all over the place.
i know orowland was saying she has been watching the clock a bit, you might need to as well.  i wonder if it's possible that you are changing it up too much on him?

in any case, i think you've been thru all the scenarios.  maybe just aim for 11am everyday....if you think he can stay up a tad longer, go for it.  but maybe just putting him down at 11am and letting him sleep till waking (not past 3hrs) would be better??
it's so hard to say, he definitely isn't playing by any rules here.

perhaps

6 wake
11-1/130 nap
6 bed

Thanks Sami, yes we are definately all over the place...
BUT, guess what---lo and behold, his 2nd year back right molar had finally started to cut, well one corner of it anyhow.

I think he is also just getting older and his sleep needs may actually be going down a bit.
The problem we have been having has been him palying forever at bedtime and also in the middle of the night, which is screwing up his wake-up times and nap times etc. I have putting it to OT but no amount of offering his nap ealry or bed early has helped.

yesterday he was crankky and I think I offered him his nap too early after a 7am wake and he then slept short, went to bed early and was up early.

He has not been super cranly this morning, just sort of quiet. its 11:15 or so and he is just finishing up lunch and then will have him in bed for 11:30ish and then early to bed sightly tonight.

Sorry to hear about so many people having difficulties here  :-\

Our sleep is ok, still 20 mins in the morning  ::)

The problem we're facing is that he wakes up from his pm nap REALLY CRANKY.  I'm talking whining and crying for 30+ minutes after he wakes up.  Today he slept from 10:55-11:15 and then 1:55-3:25 (woke on his own).  It is now 4:00 and he is STILL fussing/crying.  DH is going to take the kids to the playground near our house to try to snap him out of it.  This has been happening frequently.  Not sure if it is at all related to sleep or not.  He was in a fine mood this morning.  He is cutting his last molar, but I can't see why that would affect him every day only after his pm nap.

What did I say about jinxing??!!

She wouldn't go to bed until 9.30pm, then was up between 3 and 4.15 when she finally would go back in her cot and she slept til 8am. It's now 11.50 am and she is still going strong. I thought she'd be really tired this morning (I am)!. Not sure if it was teeth, SA, 1 nap or what!!

This kid just wont sleep!!!

I have also made a discovery which could explain things a little, she has just cut 3rd bottom incisor, well 2 weeks ago and matching one didn't seem to be doing anything.  But when screaming I spotted a molar up top and when I had a poke about she has actually been cutting 2 molars one each side both of which are almost through  ::)  However I have since been giving her calprofen for pain and it is having no effect on her ability to fall asleep at all.

We are having just 1 nap today and I gave her a good long A time as she was awake at 5.20am this morning.  She has currently been up their 40mins and is just starting to get grumpy.  Its an improvement tho on her shouting & screaming at me if I dont stand there touching her, at least she has let me leave the room.

Ooh its just gone quiet, bugger no it hasn't  ::)

Don't worry, she'll catch up on sleep eventually and start settling better. Have faith!
Keep bedtime super early tho - what time were you thinking?

Ollie had an almost textbook day yesterday, except that everything happens an hour earlier than I'd like! Up at 5:30, nap 11:30 til 1pm, bed at 5:30, asleep by 6. Slept until 5:30am with two NW, but went straight back to sleep after PD with each.

So, have shifted everything on by 15 mins today. Am hoping that if I do that every 4 days I can get us back onto a 6:30/6:45 type schedule before the next baby makes its appearance!!

Haven't really thought about bedtime to be honest.  I just went up and put her back into her sleeping bag, she can get out of it (stupid poppers on shoulders unpop when she treads on bottom) rolled her onto her side gave her her luvvy and held my hand on her and she fell asleep in about 2 seconds   ::)

That is also annoying as I really want to stop this being touched to sleep its just so not helping.  Yesterday I did wi/pd/wo for afternoon nap and it took 1hr before I got her up fed & watered her quickly then back down and it still took ages for her to get to sleep and ended up me touching her again.  Similar at bedtime took over an hour and resulted in me touching her and she passed straight out  ???

She finally went to sleep 10mins ago at 12.10, she was up at 5.20am which is just ridiculous.  I will decide on a bedtime when she wakes up, see how much sleep she gets first.

The trouble with these super early bedtimes is it leaves no time for bedtime routine as such, to get dinner late as possible leaves no time for bath & story before bf and bed.  I'm also beginning to wonder if she should be having a longer wind down for her nap.  At present it just potty time, into sleeping bag say night night to everything in her room, song and bed.  Wonder if we should do potty then have a story in mummys room before getting into sleeping bag etc.

It is really weird that she virtually passes out when you put your hand on her.. maybe you have special powers?!

Ollie was up at 5:30 and has gone down for a nap at 12:05 so we are on a similar schedule today. Your LO is only a couple of weeks younger than him so maybe the long am A times will be OK... will await the nap outcome!

Our nap wind-down is potty (well, toilet now we've got a new seat - having some success!), read a story, then bed. I make sure I keep telling him what we're doing and what's coming next in my best soothing and relaxing voice  :) I wonder if reading a story might be a bit less stimulating than singing?

Early bedtime is a pain I agree, but apparently the sleep they get pre-midnight is more restorative than the sleep they get in the early hours, I think cos it involves less REM sleep, so it's better for OT recovery. Our afternoon routines have been 4pm dinner, 4:45 a bit of activity and tidying up, 5pm toilet then a bit of massage, into PJs, then cup of milk, brush teeth, story and bed, which takes us to 5:30pm. This will all be shifted on by 15 mins tonight.

Ridiculous! I put him down 15 mins later for bedtime today (same A time from nap as he's had for the last six days tho) and he's still not asleep after 1.5 hrs. Just went in to lie him down and he was naming parts of his body 'eyes', 'nose', 'neck'..  ::)

Amusingly, when I look back at my records (I know, how sad), he's either fallen asleep at 6pm or 7:20pm, give or take 5 mins, for the last week and a half.. no other times. How bizarre is that!

Oh well, am hoping if I stick to the new routine for a few days, he will start falling asleep quicker.... Of course, we have a completely non-routine day tomorrow cos we're at a wedding so loads of time in the car, late to bed. Genius.

MommaHolmes, are these kids in cahoots or something, there isn't a baby version of BW site we don't know about is there ?? ;)

Lily only ended up having 45min nap  :o and was in bed by 5.30.  Took just 30Min's to get to sleep but still involved too much interaction by me, although I didn't have to touch her, come the finish but I did have to stand over her cot.  I thought she was asleep at one point went to creep out and the door squeaked and she spun over to see what was going on.  So took a little while of her looking up to check I was still there but all in all, not too bad.

It is a pain, this trouble settling but I'm hoping it will get easier the less OT she gets, of course thats assuming she will ever not be OT again  ::)  I have decided tho that before I can tackle independant sleep again, she needs to catch up on her sleep and not be OT as trying to do it at same time is just making her more tired as its taking so long for her to get to sleep.

Heres hoping tonight goes well for us all.  Oh B*****KS she just stirred, go back to sleep, go back to sleep.....
