Hi All!  I missed you ladies today as I was out of the house from 11-8 today!  I went to a friends house and she taught me how to make homemade meatballs and spaghetti sauce!   :D   It turned out amazing!  DH stayed home with T (what a good guy  ) and then he brought T over to our friends house at 5 for dinner.  He said everythign went well all day except she was a little fussy after her 1pm nap eventhough she slept for 1.5 hours.   :? HMMM...so I asked how much did she drink at her 3 pm bottle and he said "oh I didn't feed her again, I only gave her 1 bottle at 11 and then her lunch."      WHAT?!?!!?!?!?  He said he jsut completely forgot...didin't even think about it!!!  NO WONDER SHE WAS FUSSY!  When she got to our friends house my girlfriend who is well endowed was holding her and she kept trying to go after her boobs!!!  No wonder!    Oh well, at least he tried

Anyhow, enough about us.

Traci, it was me feeling hormonal yesterday...don't know what was up with me.  AF still hasn't come!  And it is so interesting to hear that Cole's catnap is getting longer too, as Taylor's has for the last 3 days now.  One night I finally had to wake her at 6 pm!  She still made it to bed by 7:30 though.  She has been taking 1.5 tbsp of cereal plus two veggie/fruit cubes at dinner and she gobbles it down, so I think it is time to increase.  I would suggest just giving Cole some veggies with his cereal as well.  And good for you and your shopping spree!!!

Erin-so exciting!  A trip to Puerto Rico!  Glad you had fun and Katie did well.  Adorable picture btw!

Naomi-glad to her J is feelign bettter so you can have some sanity back!

Ankie-I think you did the right thing about the DF.  I don't think we are going to try weaning her from it until at least 7 months and then the plan in Tracy's book is to wean for a couple of weeks, so she will be at least 7.5 months.  I think I will have to start limiting who I tell about this site too.  Kind of strange your friedns come on her and look at your posts, huh?  It is kind of like eavesdropping, eventhough I know this isn't a private forum.  Just kind of seems sneaky to me.

Nancy and everyone else who replied back to me about the GS, thanks so much!

And finally Holly, Welcome to the site.  You have definitely come to the right place!  First, Traci is correct in that you MUST get Tracy's new book...it is excellent and will give you so many great suggestions and will really give you a solid plan.  I would start there, as well as reading the sleep interview taht you can download in the sleep forum.

It sounds like you need to teach your little guy to sleep independently, which may be a hard journey ahead, BUT SO WORTH IT!
Second, it seems like he may have to short of an Awake time in between naps.  For his age, he should be able to stay up 2-2.5 hours and then be ready for a nap.  Because he is up for a short time, he doesn't need to sleep very long.
Third, his bed time also should be moved up to about 7-7:30 (some moms even do 8 pm but that is if he is waking up around 8 am).

BUt before you attempt all these things, I think you definitely need to do your research first and then come up with a plan.  Because if not, you may just end up getting more frustrated by trying diferent things.  It is not too late, and it may be tough for the next few weeks, but you can do it!!!  ANd it will be so worth it!  PM me if oyu have any specific Q's.

Good luck and good night ladies!

Welcome Holly!

Just looking at your day here and it would seem to me that Brady doesn't get enough day sleep and that interferes with his night sleep. A 6:30 am wake-up is great. You will find that most of us on this thread put our little ones down between 6 and 7 pm.

There is some helpful information on the boards that can get you started. One is a guideline about how many hours of sleep an infant should get at certain ages (on the sleep forum). Another is the sample 3 and 4 hour EASY routines (on this forum).

At 6 months, night sleep should total 12 hours and day sleep, 2hr 15m (although some may need longer). According to Tracy Hogg, the amount of day sleep will affect night sleep. If they don't get enough, it will cause night wakings.

What I would try is to have Brady follow a loose 4 hour routine at first. He sounds like he is able to be awake for around 2 hours which is perfect. So... start by keeping your feedings on a 4 hours routine while you work on the nap times. Put him back to sleep 2 hours to the time he last woke up. You will find that you need to keep adjusting your routine so that feedings don't coincide with sleeping but that's okay. If he doesn't sleep at least 45 minutes, you need to pu/pd or pat/shush him back to sleep because he has grown accustomed to sleeping only 15 - 20 minutes.

Don't try to change everything at once. Work on one nap at a time... if you feel you can tackle more, then go for it but give yourself time and give Brady time to adjust and learn what you are teaching him. Be good to yourself too and take a break when you need it.

Good luck and let us know how it goes. We'll be here for you!

Hi everyone and welcome to Holly,

I don't often write on this thread but I do usually read them every couple of days.  it certainly moves very fast.   James is doing really well, crawling everywhere and pulling himself up.   everyone keeps telling me he will walk before he is 1.     I think I will have to hit the gym to keep up.

In regards to solids, James is having a wide variety.  He is eating yoghurts on the odd occasion, and I haven't had any problems.  I havent' tried things like tomatos but he is having toast and vegemite.  I asked my health nurse about things like that and was informed that when they have 2 teeth and are sitting then they can try toast etc (usually about 8mths).  I told them J is already doing that and has 2 teeth and they said it would be fine just as long as you watch him.  So far, so good, no choking.  He also eats couscous (I mash it in with his veges after it is cooked and it is soft and easy to eat).  J actually really likes this.  I have tried him on some egg custard but will try and make mine in thefuture.  I think sometimes we just need to trust our instincts more and use everyone else as a guide.  There is so much information out there, that at tiimes, it can be veryc onfusing. :?

I think J is now cutting his 3rd tooth.  Naps have been very short and eratic today.  It is one of his top teeth, so hopefully in the next few days it will be better.  This is our routine at the moment (I hope this helps you Holly):

6am awake
6:30am bottle (210ml)
7:15am cereal
7:45am wash/dress
8:00am play
8:30amish:  sleep
10am awake
10:30am bottle
10:45am pla
12pm:  lunch (2 veges and fruit)
12:30pm sleep
2pm: awake
2:30pm bottle
2:45pm play
4:30pm:  nap (no later than 5pm)
5:00pm dinner (meat and veges + fruit)
5:30pm bath
6:00pm dressed and play with dad
6:30pm bottle
7:00pm bed

Of course, this is ideal, but naps are not always 1.5hrs long, usually the morning one is and then gradually get smaller during the day.  Very rarely wakes during the night unless he gets stuck and we fix him up and he is okay.  Settling is still not perfect, but what ever is.   Everything else is good, so I guess I have to have something that is not.

Hope everyone has a lovely day and week

Richelle, I just realized that I forgot to tell you congratulations on resigning!  I know it is strange territory, but I think you did the right thing.  Stay strong and don't let them persuade you otherwise!

Lisa, good luck with James and his 3rd tooth.  Hopefully he is not too miserable.  I agree about using your instinct about the solids, otherwise we can go crazy with all the confilicting advice!  I am double checking with my ped. tomorrow, and if she gives the okay I am just going to go with the Super Baby Food book and follow those guidelines.  I think just choosing one book/advice and going with it is the best route for us.

And someone was asking about the sweet potatoes and not pureeing them.  What I did was mash them up and then add a fair amount of water as they were very dry.  Then I blended them with a hand blender and that worked very well.  They were still pretty dry when I put them into the ice cube trays for freezing, so when I thaw them now I just add a little more water to make it suitable for Taylor, then heat.

Lovely pics Andrea, what a great looking family!  :D

I agree with picking one weaning guide and going with that.  Here we get given a sheet with foods and months and that's what I used with Nathan and will do the same with Danielle.

Welcome Holly, looks like some of the girls are taking good care of you working through some issues.

Traci, your shopping spree sounds wonderful!  I also found after having Nathan that my bum was smaller than before, but it's not now after Danielle!   :?  But I'm working on it and have been exercising and stopped eating rubbish in the evening.  Only have a couple of kgs to lose and I'm halfway there - gotta get into that bikini this summer.   BTW, with the sleeping through definition, like you say, it doesn't really matter, it's just great that you're happy with what he's doing that's the main thing.   Fortunately with our night waking I'm out of bed, fed and back in bed within 5mins.

Erin, sounds like you had a really lovely holiday, cute pics!

Well that's it from me.

Hi everyone, and welcome Holly. I've been keeping up (kind of) by reading the past couple of days, but haven't had a chance to write. So much has happened, I won't be able to remember or comment on much, but....

$500 shopping, oh how wonderful. Good on you Traci. I keep saying I'm going to get some new lingerie, but haven't managed it yet.

Gorgeous pics of Taylor and the family.

Lisa, sounds like James' eating is going really well. I guess teeth may help a little, with the tearing of things anyway. Hopefully the 3rd tooth won't be too painful for him. We're still waiting on Daniel's first, so not sure how it's going to be.

Sorry, I can't recall everything else that has happened, I definitely need to keep up to date on this site at least twice a day I think! Not once in 2 days!

Things are going okay here. Well pretty well I guess. Daniel's been a little grouchy, I'm wondering if it's his teeth threatening to come thru. Either that, or getting frustrated with not being able to move. I noticed today instead of just sitting and reaching for toys then givihg up because he can't reach, he's actually trying to reach further and leans forward onto his calves a bit balancing somehow and reaching the toy, so his but is coming off the floor IYKWIM. Mmmm maybe this is the start of his new moves. I hope so.

The other strange thing is, which I'm trying not to worry about, is he seems to be totally off his solids. After a slow start, he really started gobbling them up about 3 weeks ago, then this last week he's just not interested. If he gets thru an icecube size worth it's good at the moment, he was getting thru 4 cubes three times a day. Any suggestions of what I should do? Have any of your LO's done this?

We had a great day yesterday, the weather was great and I spend a huge part of the day in the garden. That was after DH looked after Daniel until about 11.30am (except for b/f of course) and I slept in. Then, when Daniel wasn't taking a nap, we had him in the shade outside on a rug with his toys and exersaucer. Then my brother and SIL and kids turned up and we all hung around outside, playing ball/frisbee etc. Daniel was a little nervous at first, but he was okay. I think he's just starting to go thru that 'not so sure of strangers' phase. And as we don't see my brother very often, they're considered strangers in Daniel's eyes. Something I need to make an effort to change.

Enough ramblings from me, see you all tomorrow!

Hi

Just testing to see if my picture worked.

Also, does anyone's LO turn their head on the side to look at things (like a pup does when you talk to it  ) DD's ear is just about stuck to her shoulder all the time - she will even bend her whole body over if it's really interesting   :?:  :?:

Good Morning Everyone,

Cole actually did sleep through last night!  Hooray.  Fed at 6pm, bed by 6:30, fed at 11 and woke at 5:50.  His bedtime is getting a touch later because of the late catnap...but I think it will work out well with the time change coming up.  He woke a tiny bit early but NO wakeups at all other than 11pm!!!  So should I mimic yesterday for him in order to sleep through again ie.  no midday feed, 30 minute nap and peeing on carpet LOL!

Holly-I have to ask or it will bother me.  I was speaking with two women at Pickering Town Centre a couple of weeks ago in the food court.  One had a baby boy your age...with reflux.  That's not you is it?  I recommended BW to them so I thought there was a slight chance it could be you. Anyway, I digress...
I agree with the other girls that Brady needs to stay up longer in order to be tired enough to sleep longer.  Also, a sleep cycle is about 40 minutes long and if he doesn't know how to soothe himself he won't be able to get back to sleep once he comes out of deep sleep.
Hopefully you can get out today to get the book, and if you're not too sleep deprived read a bit.  I'll come back and post in a bit which page it is that shows how to put your lo on a routine. (Edit) Holly, the section on how to put your lo on a routine starts on page 39 at the bottom.  You'll need to read other chapters too before starting...Sleep and Pick Up Put Down as well.

Andrea-LOVE Taylors dress.  Love the pattern and she seems to be having a great time :D

Cole was pretty fussy just now so I put him down a touch early...hope I'm not going to pay with a 45 minute nap :?   we'll see.

gotta go get DH out of bed.  He didn't sleep because he's still fretting that he failed his exam

Morning everyone (or whatever time of day it may be!)--

Holly - I agree with what everyone else has said - just let us know what sort of individual problems you have.  Like Ankie (I think) said, you can work on one nap at a time - good day sleep leads to good night sleep and it's easier to work on things in the daytime!

Andrea - Taylor looks adorable - and you and DH and her look great too!  Looks like a fun time!

Traci - Good for you to spend some time/money on yourself.  My DH always thinks he failed tests too after he took them.  He always does fine, sure yours did too.

Nikki - Good job on the weight loss - I can't seem to get rid of those last pounds no matter what I do (ok, I take that back, I haven't actually been trying - cutting out junk food after dinner would probably do wonders for me - at least now that it's colder here I won't eat ice cream every day anymore!).

Hayley - the lack of solids may be related to teething if they've been bothering him.

Katie is definitely getting towards crawling - creeping along the rug a bit today and yesterday....very slowly...and trying very hard to get up on her hands and knees.  We're getting there

Anyway, take care all!  I've got to get a new picture up, but I just can't get them the right size since we don't have photoshop (and I can't remember how I did it the first time) - will figure it out later.

goodmorning to all!!

Holly good luck with starting BW....it requires A LOT of patience at first but VERY worth the effort!!!

Jack had a little bit of a rough night...he woke at 4:50 because he rolled onto his belly and couldn't figure out how to get back over at that time of night, then he woke 45 min later was able to resettle then woke for the day at 6:50..(we've been trying to move his clock back an hour for daylight savings)  so he was an hour too early would not go back to sleep and when I finally got him up to change his diaper...I got him out of his sleep bag and the whole side of him was wet and he had a poopy diaper!   oops!!  poor guy he was trying to tell me something!!

Hello, lovely ladies!
Welcome, Holly!!!  I totally agree with the other girls...get that book!  You might want to read the first book first to get a good background.  But, the 3rd book (BWSAYP) is great for getting on a routine if you don't have one.  I think the more A time is the key.  Dig in for a few weeks of hard work, but after that, you'll be doing so much better!
Everyone else:  Sounds like things are great.  Erin and Andrea, loved the pictures!
We had our first Halloween party with my prenatal (or antenatal in NZ, I gather from Nikki?) group.  There are 6 boys and they looked adorable in their costumes!  When we tried to line them up on the couch for a pic, one started crying and next thing you know 4 out of 6 were screaming.  (Ryan didn't of course!   :D   Actually, I think he was too confused to cry!).  One girl is really struggling with sep. anxiety, since her daycare worker let her son CIO!  She went to pick him up early and he was in a room by himself screaming b/c "I just can't carry him around all day."      Well, she isn't going back there again!  I kept whispering "Baby Whisperer!  Baby Whisperer!"  She got the book from her mom but never read it.  Trying not to be pushy, but it would REALLY help this little guy!

I did tell them about this site and one girl said, "We'll have to go find you there and see what you said."      I said, "Oh, it's nothing you don't know already" and didn't give them my user name, although it wouldn't be too hard to figure out.  I'm sure there's nothing to hide...just wanting to keep my 2 mama worlds separate, kwim?

Okay, that's it for now...just had to read all these pages...will type about  the world's scariest mommy event later. Have I peaked your curiosity?    (Is that even the right peak/peek?  Mommy brain strikes again!!!)
